i'm larry. >> i'm ama daetz. there was a stunning blow to the obama administration today and those hoping to bring some 4 to 5 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows. lawna zach has a look at today's supreme court decision on immigration. >> reporter: outside the supreme court today, a sense of sadness and anger among protesters. supreme court deadlocked, unable to render a decision in the challenge to obama's legal order that would have provided legal protection to immigrants living in the u.s. illegally. >> this is a win for the constitution. congress, not the president, writes our laws.

today, the supreme court validated that very core essential fundamental principle. >> the president vowed to make it an election year issue. >> we're going to have to decide whether we're people who accept the cruelty of ripping children fracture their parents arms or whether we actually value families and keep them together for the sake of all of our communities. >> while his executive order has been defeated, the president will still try to offer his protection. >> what the president reaffirmed is there's still prioritization. they said their priority was terrorists, people with criminal convictions, people who just crossed the border, but not law abiding americans who work hard, who have family members who they support. >> addressing the american people today, the president reiterated the only reason the supreme court was deadlocked was because the senate refuses to consider his nominee, merrick garland. reporting outside of the supreme court, abc news. >> as we mentioned, an estimated

5 million undocumented imgrpt would have been helped by president obama's order. >> abc7 news reporter lyanne melendez is here with local reaction. >> at a rally, a lot of criticism of the supreme court and president obama. the so-called tie was heartbreaking for thousands of immigrants in the bay area. >> this woman told the crowd, i am mad because we are in this country not expecting handouts from the government. she is a single mom, three of her four children were born in the united states. president obama's plan would have protected her from potentially being deported. of the 11.4 million undocumented immigrants living here, the plan would have benefitted 5 million of them. 4 million are parents of american citizens or permanent residents who have been in this country for at least five years. >> they were very mistrusting of the program when it initially was introduced because they said i won't believe it until i see

it. >> jason clark is the chairman of the san francisco republican party and opposed mr. obama's executive action. >> i think he's created unrealistic expectations and in this type of environment, what we really need to focus on is comprehensive immigration reform. >> there have been more than 2 million deportations during his presidency. in the end, he was trying to do away with the name the deporter in chief. >> this is not helping. the obamastration has a real jekyll and hyde perment when it comes to immigration enforcement. >> this mother of three u.s. citizens says she's disappointed but not defeated. >> and it doesn't end here. this was a preliminary injunction coming out of texas. now, the same judge is expected to make it a permanent injunction, which then will be appealed and heard by the fifth circuit court and end up again before the supreme court.

upper 80s and one low 90 inland, brendwood. along with this warming trend we have developing, we also have rough surf, a beach hazard advisory in effect until early saturday. wave heights are elevated and there's the danger during the time of this beach hazard concern of strong rip currents and large breakers. the big story in our seven-day outlook is rising temperatures. i'll show you just how hot it's going to get this weekend in just a few minutes. >> all right, thank you, spencer. president obama is on his way to the bay area right now to speak at the global entrepreneurship summit at stanford tomorrow. he left after noon our time. he's expected to arrive at 5:30. marine one is expected to take the president to san francisco where he will spend the fight. now, a number of streets are already closed off in the city in anticipation of his visit. they include howard between fourth and fifth as well as mission to fulsome and howard.

>> the president is here for the global entrepreneurship summit in silicon valley thatt ikicked off today with big leaders in business and politics. >> inside memorial auditorium at stanford university, secretary of state john kerry welcomed entrepreneurs and investors to the president's seventh annual global entrepreneurship summit. >> the best thing the government can do is convene the forum, make sure the coffee is hot, and get out of the way. >> and among the speakers, some of the bay area's most recognized executives, including brian chesky, ceo of airbnb. >> when we told people, they were like, are you crazy? you think strangers are going to sleep in other strangers' homes? that's never going to happen. >> uber ceo also took the stage. >> when you're an entrepreneur and in a place where you're disrupting an industry in a way, in a large way, well, it's going to be controversial. you're going to get lots of headlines. >> the crowd drawing some energy

what's clear is voter turnout is huge. 70% to 80% in most areas. brits went to the polls after a heating campaign. supporters of brexit say the country will be better off making its own decisions on economic, political, and immigration issues. opponents say leaving would destabilize the global economy, spook trading partners and drive down the british currency. >> it would constitute a shock to the market and we'll see sterling have a very difficult day indeed. >> british celebs are heavily involved in campaigning. emma watson, a supporter for remain, urged citizens to vote. model elizabeth hurley did the same while declaring herself for br brexit. many say it's easier to have one set of rules in europe rather than many. again, we expect to have the final results in on abc7 news tonight at 11:00. >> thank you. an inmate at the contra

costa jail in martinez was found dead in a shower area. the cause appears to be suicide. deputies say a bed sheet was tied to the shower frame. the d.a.'s office is investigating. >> the santa clara county sheriff's office is also investigating the death of an inmate in their custody. the 57-year-old man had been incarcerated since march and was suffering from several pre-existing medical problems. last friday, he was taking to valley medical center. today, he died at valley med. it's also under investigation by the local d.a.'s office as well as the medical examiner. >> an early morning traffic collision in pleasanton killed a bicyclist as she rode through an intersection just after 7:00 at valley avenue and stanley boulevard. the cyclist was going south on valley when a car going east hit her. the driver is cooperating with officers. >> a pet groomer has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges in the death of a dog at a pinls petsmart last month. he was grooming a datsun.

after three minutes in his care, the dog was bleeding from the mouth and having trouble breathing. an on-site vet tried to save the dog, but the dog died anyway. he was found to have a punctured lung and two broken ribs. >> parking will be off limits around san francisco city hall in anticipation of this weekend's pride celebration. tow away signs have been posted. the main festival will be there saturday and sunday. the pride parade starts at 10:30 and ends at united nations plaza. >> we must never, ever give up or give in. >> coming up on abc7 news at 4:00, democrats and their 26-hour sit-in, but they vow not to give up. plus, some big names in tech are luring more than just dollars to the bay area. how silicon valley is becoming a tourist magnet.

>> well, after 26 hours, democrats ended their sit-in of the house chambers this morning. >> it was all to protest the lack of gun control bills being considered. lawna zach has the latest. >> after more than a full day occupying the house floor, democrated abandoned their position, but they vowed to be back. >> we must never, ever give up or give in. we must keep the faith, and we must come back here. >> paul ryan today criticizing the group's motivation. >> if this is not a political stunt, why are they trying to raise money off this? off a tragedy. >> overnight, nearly 200 democrats refusing to cede control. some members spending the night on the house floor, which at times looks like a rowdy slumber party. at least twice republicans tried to shut down the protest. >> house will be in order. >> soon after democrats announced the sit-in, republicans recessed, turning

off cameras and the official record. democrats responded by live streaming on social media. when most americans were sleepish, republicans tried to bring the house back to order with logistical votes, passing zika legislation, but not budging on guns. paul ryan choosing to dismiss gres until july 5th. democrats saying all this could have been avoided with a quick vote. >> we can have the vote in half an hour. but instead of holding a vote on those two issues, republicans decided in the middle of the night to run home to their districts. >> democrats say they will return to this fight when the house reconvened on july 5th. nbc news, the capitol. >> reaction to the house revolt from bay area democrats was generally positive. they say the sit-in got the point across to the american people. >> at the very least, give it a vote on the house floor. give every member of the house the opportunity to cast a vote, yea or nay, on whether or not

they think terrorists should be able to buy guns. >> peninsula congressman jackie speier herself a victim of gun violence, praised the efforts of her democratic house colleagues. she showed a bullet she was shot with in the 1978 jonestown massacre in guyana. jonathan bloom has been looking into how advancements in social media provided a unique platform for the sit-in to go public. he'll have that at 5:00. >> a new kind of tourism is coming to the bay area. more and more people are looking for a real-life experience with the companies they only see in a virtual world. matt keller has a look at the silicon valley tour trend. >> the golden gate bridge, alcatraz, and fisherman's wharf are some of the most popular tourist attractions in san francisco. but the city in the bay is getting competition frauj the south. sill vaughn valley has become a hot spot for visitors. bay area tour companies are offering up-close views of tech

companies like google, facebook, and apple. >> just curious, since the deal with these companies almost all day, every day at home, curious to see where these products originate. >> i spoke on the phone with jesse, the owner of a friending town tour company. he's been doing silicon valley tours for about a decade and says they have increased in popularity. the views from mountain view, menlo park, and cupertino have become more popular for at least one of their guides. their top recommendations for visitors, the stanford campus tour and the computer history museum, but he admits people are most interested in getting a picture at the tech company campuses. just like the ones from our abc7 news producer who went to the google campus with her family. the android park gives something for people to post on social media. don't expect to sit down in boardrooms. the tech companies are more protective of their privacy than of yours.

take a look at this. something you probably haven't ever seen. the rendering send to me from apple of their visitors center set to go in the apple 2 campus. i reached out to facebook and google to find out where they would want tourists to go if they go to their campuses, and they have yet to respond to me. in menlo park, matt keller, abc7 news. >> facebook is doing something to give the neighborhood near it a boost. the social media giant wants to build a pedestrian and bike bridge at its two men lolo park campus. we received that rendering. that bridge would go over bay front expressway. right now, the bellhaven neighborhood which is behind facebook does not have access to the bay. that bridge would change the situation. it would zigzag from the public park between two new facebook buildings. >> facebook executive sheryl sandberg kicking off a brand-new awareness campaign called together women can. the goal is to encourage women to be mentors and powerful

oakland. 78 in mountain view. 80 in san jose. 84 at morgan hill. 63 at half moon bay. check out the view from mt. tam, looking over the bay. 88 in santa rosa, napa, 83. 87 at fairfield. low to mid 80s at concord and livermore, and clearer skies prevail over the golden gate where we see no fog right now. these are our forecast features. the warming pattern continues for the next several days. we might see triple digits or near triple digits over the weekend especially in the inland areas and the summerlike warmth will linger into next week. lows tonight will be generally in the mid 50s. we'll see patchy fog or areas of fog near the coast and locally out across the bay. check out the fog cast animations during 7:00 this evening. those coming in much of the coastline, moving locally across the bay. if you're looking for sunny beaches, you don't have to wait long tomorrow. the fog will clear away and we'll have sunny beaches by midday and through the afternoon hours tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. because check out the forecast

for high temperatures on tomorrow. we'll see low to mid 90s in our warmest inland spots. 94 tomorrow at antioch and cloverdale. 92 at fairfield. 91 at clear lake. 90 at napa. check out saturday. likely to be the warmest day across the three-day period, going through the weekend. highs of 99 in antioch, 96, fairfield, 94, concord, 98 at cloverdale. and on sunday, you'll see the heat lingering, especially in our inland areas where we'll still see 90s, and upper 70s to around 80 on the bay. cooler down a little bit on the coast on sunday. and by the way, speaking of sunday, it's san francisco pride celebration sunday. and it's going to be a sunny day all day long. from morning to evening, with high temperature up around 70 degrees or so in the afternoon hours. great day for the pride celebration. on we go to the seven-day forecast. and it's not moving. my clicker is not moving thing

a peninsula artist is looking for a painting stolen from the san mateo county fair. san mateo police say a thief stole this oil painting titled tension, by belmont artist cameron mazza. the painting had a $750 price tag. he says while he's upset, he's also a little flattered that someone wanted his painting badly enough to steal it. >> the world's ugliest dog contest will take place tomorrow at the sonoma fairgrounds. an entry from idaho is hoping to trump the competition, literally. it's all about the hairdo here.

miller. she's going to have a live report live at 5:00. >> in oakland today, a low profile but powerful city bureaucrat has become a central figure in the effort to reform the troubled oakland police department. abc7 news reporter vic lee sat down with sabrina landerous today, and he's live for us at oakland police headquarters. vic. >> well, the question is, who is sabrina? well, she was born and raised in oakland. her children are fifth generation oaklanders, and this city, there's only one person more powerful than she, the mayor. >> for me, as the highest ranking administrative officer in the city, the buck stops with me. >> the only person city administrator sabrina reports to is the mayor, libby schaaf. but every department head reports to her, including the police chief. >> we're talking about a very number of our officers in an agency with almost 800 sworn

police officers. >> that small number under investigation for seemingly widening sex scandal, racist text messages and other inappropriate behavior. scandals which have rocked the department, which went through four department heads in nine days. the latest now acting assistant chief david downing. she declined to address the rapid changes saying she can't discuss personnel matters. >> i will tell you that these were decisions that we, again, own and were in the best interest of the long-term health of this institution. >> she says she's hired a private investigator to find out who's leaking information about the probes. she says it was not to suppress whistleblowers or to stop transparency, but to protect the integrity of the investigations. >> and the leaking of some of this confidential information, it actually has compromised our ability to do so. >> she told us she has ordered

baltimore police officer cesar goodson acquitted on all charges, including manslaughter and second degree murder in the death of freddie gray. >> i'm outraged right now. it's disgusting. >> goodson was behind the wheel of the police wagon in which gray suffered fatal neck and spinal cord injuries in april of last year. prosecutors saying after gray's arrest, goodson did not put him in a seat belt and intentionally drove erratically, taking gray on a so-called rough ride while gray was handcuffed and shackled in the back. alleging goodson didn't act quickly enough to get gray medical help. the judge ruling there was, quote, no evidence that the defendant knew or should have known that mr. gray was in distress and said goodson's mistake or bad judgment in not putting gray in a seat belt does not raiise to the level of criminal misconstruct. of the six officers charged, two others have urld stood trial. one also acquitted. the other's case ending with a

hung jury, but this was supposed to be the prosecution's strongest case. the police union now calling on the baltimore state's attorney to drop the charges against the other officers. >> we are more than certain that they, too, will be found to be without guilt. >> the prosecutor's office is not commenting because of a gag order. the next officer's trial is scheduled to begin in two weeks. marcie gonzalez, abc news, baltimore. >> a hostage taking masked gunman who attacked a movie theater in germany is dead. these are pictures of a german s.w.a.t. team entering the movie theater near frankfurt. police say four shots were fired by the gunman. the german public television initially reported 25 people were injured, but they may have been hurt by the tear gas fired into the theater. the gunman was the only person injured by gunfire. authorities say there's no indication this was a terror attack. >> southern california officials now estimate more than 29,000

gallons of crude oil spilled into a ventura county ravine this morning. a corroded pipeline flowed half a mile down the ravine in the hall canyon area of the city of ventura. it was first noticed this morning when local residents started to smell it. officials believe they can contain the spill to this rav e ravine. >> the environmental protection agency said today the water in flint, michigan, is safe for everybody to drink. that includes pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children. federal health officials tested tap water from flint and found the lead levels will below the agency's action lectivel. >> led zeppelin is stealing a whole lot of love this afternoon. a los angeles federal court jury found led zeppelin did not steal the intro to stairway to heaven. a lawsuit was filed two years ago, claiming the riff was first recorded bine the band spirit in

482,000 people who owned the cars with two liter diesel engines would be eligible for restitution. the cars were programmed to turn on emissions controls during government lab tests and didn't turn them off when they were on the road. investigators say the cars emitted 40 times the legal limit of nitrogen oxide. the settlement is not yet final. details are not scheduled to be released until next tuesday morning. >> if you're a passenger in the front seat, are you more at risk than other in the car. the insurance institute for highway safety conducts several crash tests each year that automakers often use to improve safety. currently, tests include front end crashes with impact on the driver's side. now, the group wants to test what happens when the impact is on the passenger side. initial tests show must suvs would flunk that test. about 1600 front seat passengers died in crashes during 2014
