we have fought adversity our whole life. >> san francisco shows its resolve as pride weekend kicks off but a colorful celebration is a bit muted this year with unprecedented security following the orlando attack. we begin with cornell bernard live in san francisco's civic center plaza from the pride celebration. you have seen heavy security there? >> reporter: yeah, we real request have. in fact i've never seen this many police officers at a pridefest before. so far it's been a fun, safe

event. there are also new security measures in place but critic says increased police prepares just too much here. san francisco is showing its pride to the world this weekend. the colors of the rainbow, just about everywhere you look. it's a time for celebration, and remembrance. >> our hearts are with orlando. we think of them every day. >> for the first time this security checkpoint screening at every entrance to pridefest. many get it. >> pretty safe. it's a good idea. >> metal detectors, and still always looking over our shoulders. >> extra police officers are on duty, patrolling pridefest. and sunday's pride parade. >> i think there's too much police at pride. >> she is grand marshal at the parade and will march but groups like "black lives matter" will not in protest of the added police presence. >> i do not think that more police presence will make us

safe. the attack in orlando was one lone gunman. >> i don't like the metal detectors going into civic center plaza but i'm not going to second-guess the pride community's decision to try to keep people safe. >> safety is the mantra at this year's pride. something worth prebeating. >> if you see something, say something. repeat that back. if you see something. >> say something. >> one more time. if you see something. >> say something. >> we have heard that message repeated several times today. what happened in orlando will not break the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community and only make it stronger. pridefest continues tomorrow.

>> abc7 news was atop san francisco's twin peaks. the band played for the installs of the pink triangle. the try angle covers one acre. here a loose at the san francisco end of the bay bridge. with huge crowded expected this weekend there will be a lot of road closures. the area around civic center will be closed both today and tomorrow, and from market street -- and market street from beale to eight will be closed for at the parade. muni will reroute buss and the agency is asking people to take publication transportation. barret will begin service at 7:00 a.m. and run extra trains. a walk weekend in the bay area and it's going to get warmer. a live look outside right now from the camera atop the sutro.

fighting the blaze. crews took extra precaution, the area is home to two shooting range that may store ammunition on site. they were able to control the fire with benefit of air attack. no injuries reported. new details on a wildfire in kern county where san jose firefighters assisting the battle against flames that killed two people and charred 56 square miles. the fire started thursday with zero containment reported. flames have destroyed 150 homes near lake isabella, one home owner could not believe her house was spared. >> we have reported that our house is standing, which is quite a miracle. i know there's a lot of people that have had a lot of devastation and loss. >> the san jose firefighters join others from the bay area already on the fire lines. gilroy fire tweeted this photo of fire engines assembling.

the crews are fight little six large wildfires in california and the biggest, sherpa fire, is now 93% contained. the sherpa fire has burn nearly 12 square miles. >> developing news here. you're looking at flooding blamed for at least 23 deaths in west virginia. west virginia's governor has made an urgent request for federal disaster aid to help people in three hardest hit counties. severe weather knocked out power for 32,000 homes and businesses and disaster is keeping many people out of their homes. >> it's been an at -- adventure. we're just continuing our camping trip in a different place. >> you can see some pictures of efforts to rescue people from those deadly flood waters. the pga even was cancelled next month because of flooding damage on the course where the tournament tapes. inned firefighters needed to use special tools to free a

a shark warning on this warm weekend for people heading to a popular beach in pacifica. somebody spotted shark yesterday. police posted signs in the area
