store. police say the 83-year-old driver behind the wheel hit the gas instead of the brake and came through the reception area. one worker was pinned by the car. about 30 people were inside the salon at the time but thankfully no one was seriously hurt. eight riders, most of them children, had to be rescued from a stuck roller coaster in oklahoma city. it stopped in its tracks about 100 feet in the air. firefighters climbed up and fitted everyone with a helmet and harness and walked them off. a frantic 911 call about a plane crash turned out to be a nightmare, literally. a washington state man said he was in a small plane heading to oregon when it went down. he also said he was in the plane with three other people who were unconscious and they were trapped. >> are you able to safely get out? >> no. i'm pinned in. >> are you able to look out the window? are you able to see the wing from where you're at? >> no. i can't see anything. >> it turns out the man had

taken ambien before making the call and he was completely disoriented. the caller says he's now concerned about the drug's side effect saying he took half a pill because he couldn't sleep after a recent surgery. >> interesting dream. a couple of sports notes. michael phelps qualifying for the u.s. olympics swim team. he finished first in the 200 meter butterfly at the olympic trials. he's the first male swimmer to qualify for five olympic games. phelps' journey started in 2000 when he was only 15 years old. he turns 31 today. happy birthday. andrew luck is now the nfl's highest paid player. he just signed a six-year contract that's worth about $140 million. that is more than tom brady and cam newton. luck missed part of last season

health, cooking nutritious meals and hitting the gym hard. a total lifestyle change for her who said she's struggled with her weight since childhood. >> i felt different growing up because i was heavier and i couldn't do a lot of the physical activities they could. >> reporter: by college she was six feet, but poor eating habits caused her weight to spiral out of control. >> i had finished college. i was going into my teaching degree. i stepped on a scale and i was over 300 pounds. >> reporter: when she developed hypothyroidism, she knew she had to take action and control. unlike most people who rely on a diet and exercise to make the change, laura also leaned heavily on social media for results using instagram to publicly share her story. >> people were saying how did you do this?

good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top headlines on "world news now" this thursday. new images from istanbul. this man wearing a winter coat on a summer day is one of the three terrorists involved in the attack at that airport. the area where one bomb blast happened on tuesday night is now shut off by temporary walls. more details and a live report straight ahead. iraq's military released video of an air strike in the city of fallujah. officials say as many as 250 of the terrorist group were killed. and 40 vehicles destroyed. and a grizzly bear has attacked and killed a 38-year-old mountain biker outside glacier national park in montana. the victim was a law enforcement

officer with the u.s. forest service. those are some of our top stories on this thursday, june 30th. >> from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning. we're going to start with the latest on the istanbul attack. the death toll right now stands at 42 people. most of them turkish. >> nearly 240 others injured. many of them in critical condition. there's yet to be a claim of responsibility. >> officials in turkey and the u.s. continue to blame isis. investigators are using surveillance video to piece together a timeline for how the attack took place. we get more now from abc's marcy gonzalez. >> reporter: turkish authorities revealing new details of how the deadly terror attack unfolded tuesday. three terrorists including this man arriving in a taxi, unable to get through security, they take guns out of their suitcases and start shooting.

>> he was spraying. it was nonstop automatic rifles, for sure. >> reporter: surveillance cameras show the first bomb going off. travelers sent desperately running. >> people were shooting on one side. we all ran the other way. the bombs went off and people started running the other way with more shooting. >> reporter: one of the three attackers chasing people and then taken down shot by a police officer. the killer's gun sliding across the floor. the officer approaches. then runs for cover as the terrorist fumbles then detonates his suicide vest. the third terrorist waiting outside as people ran searching for safety he detonates yet another bomb. >> it was a total chaos, and then we all started to hide. >> reporter: more than 40 people killed including the three terrorists. more than 200 others injured. though no group has claimed responsibility, turkish and u.s. officials suspect isis was behind the attack.

>> i'm confident we can and we will defeat those who offer only death and destruction. >> reporter: and istanbul's airport is open as some airports in the u.s. have extra security in place in response. >> all right. thank you. the director of the cia is being clear about his suspicions saying the attack bears the hallmarks of isis depravity. >> for more we're joined by molly hunter in jerusalem. it's daylight there, second day of this investigation. where do things stand now? >> reporter: good morning. that's right. investigators are poring over surveillance video, cell phone video, anything to give them a clue as to who the attackers were. again, we saw the face of the attacker for the first time, that man in the winter coat, and the interior minister said it's highly possible that those

attackers are foreign nationals. again, no identities yet. and no claim of responsibility. again, we heard from the cia director that, in fact, this attack has all the hallmarks of an isis attack. it was a high value target. it hit foreign travelers and damaged a faltering turkish economy and tourism industry. those are goals of isis. isis thinks turkey is too close to the west. and as turkey cracks down on isis networks inside the country, isis wants to destabilize its northern neighbor and yesterday they hit the country where it hurts. >> molly, ataturk security differs from other airports in the region and europe. how so? >> reporter: it does. so we already saw a video of atatu ataturk's security yesterday and this morning. it's already changing.

i can tell you the times that i've been to ataturk, i fly through this all the time. you drive in and walk up to the terminal and there's a first layer of security. you walk through a metal detector before you reach the desk to get your boarding pass. yesterday we saw, already, another layer of security. there's been a check point perimeter. now guards are stopping every car, looking in the trunks of the cars, asking people questions before they get to the terminal. this is all very unlike the brussels airport where we saw the attacks last spring, and it's a safe bet many european airports will be re-evaluating their security after yesterday's attacks. >> that's molly hunter live from us in jerusalem. just in the nick of time, congress approved a rescue passenger for puerto rico. the territory is drowning in debt. $70 billion. they're supposed to make a payment tomorrow of $2 billion. president obama says he'll sign the bill. a sit-in is over for now. the fight over tougher gun control is not. protests were held across the country yesterday, a rallying cry to try to prevent another

mass shooting like orlando. more now from abc's molly rogan. >> reporter: from the steps of congress -- >> the fight is not over. this is just one step. >> reporter: -- to church pews and city centers all over the country. more than 30 gatherings from coast to coast, people coming together to urge congress to do something about gun violence. protesting in chicago. >> nobody should be able to buy a gun if they have shown a proclivity for violence. >> reporter: and sharing personal stories in memphis. >> my life is over because my son is gone. >> reporter: democrats trying to keep the momentum going from last week's 26-hour sit-in on the house floor. >> the sit-in was a spontaneous event. we have to continue to be creative and get this ground swell of support to continue. >> reporter: the house is on a week-long recess so some democrats took their message home during what they called a national day of action. democrats want votes on two

measures, one to stop known or suspected terrorists from buying guns. the other to mandate background checks at gun shows and for online sales. >> it's about time we have action. >> reporter: but the house speaker paul ryan has said democrats are staging a publicity stunt and he won't bring those gun bills up for a vote. >> we will not take this or tolerate this. if they want to get a bill to the floor, there's a procedure. they've chosen not to do it. >> reporter: no one is expecting votes right away. house democrats say they're winning the battle as long as gun safety remains part of the conversation here in washington. ali rogan, the white house. now to a security scare at the white house. a man with a gun brazenly walked up to a check point. a 31-year-old was shot by secret service after he ignored their commands to stop. he later told them he came to shoot people and planned to die by suicide by police.

dozens of power lines were knoc dozens of power lines were knocked down as a monsoon moved through the phoenix area. there was gusty wind and hail. thousands of people were left in the dark with some repairs not expected until this morning. a storm also brought hundreds of lightning strikes. an emotional rally in san francisco as rape survivors delivered petitions demanding the removal of judge aaron persky. he sentenced a former stanford swimmer to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. the survivors say the sentence was far too lenient. >> it's going to continue to happen if we don't take a stand. judge persky has a responsibility to the people to say that rape is wrong. >> the victim in the stanford case has chosen to remain anonymous. new information about the body slam on bourbon street. the video shows an officer taking a man down in new

orleans. this is over the weekend. police are asking for judgments to be delayed until it's explained that the guy who was taken down wasn't listening to the state trooper or his own brother when they were asked to leave. the witness who recorded the video says he sided with the trooper until that body slam. >> i saw him practice patience when he was listening. i respected that up until the part when he put his hands on him and shoved him down. >> our station in chicago reports a guy who got slammed down is a doctor. his lawyer said he was frustrated because he couldn't get his credit card back from a bar. he was issued a court summons for public intoxication and other charges. also caught on camera, a police chase like we've never seen before. >> check this out. you can see the guy riding a go cart down the highway with police in hot pursuit. the best part is the guy who shot this video says it's not all that unusual. >> it's just typical there? it's berkeley area, i guess. he says every once in a while groups of go cart drivers hit the roads.

sure. >> reporter: surveillance cameras show the first bomb going off near the security x-ray machines. travelers sent desperately running. >> we all ran the other way, and then the bombs went off. and people were going the other way. there was more shooting. >> reporter: one of the three attackers chasing people and then taken down, shot by a police officer. the killer's gun sliding across the floor, the officer approaches, then runs for cover as the terrorist fumbles and detonates his suicide vest. the third terrorist waiting outside as people ran searching for safety. he did detonates yet another bomb. >> it was total chaos. then we all started to hide. >> reporter: more than 40 people killed including the three terrorists. more than 200 others injured. though no group has claimed responsibility, turkish and u.s. officials suspect isis was

behind the attack. and istanbul's airport is now back open. some airports in the u.s. have extra security in place in response. >> all right. as marcy suggested, the attackers spread out after getting to the airport and prior to detonating the bombs they were carrying. >> turkish officials say it's possible the terrorists were foreigners. they believe only adds to the likelihood that isis is to blame. for more on the investigation, let's go to brian ross. >> reporter: officials say the airport surveillance video provides clues through the calm demeanor of the suicide bombers and gunmen taking different positions of an attack that was well planned. furthered of isis training that's less likely here because it would be harder to form and maintain an operating cell in the united states. i spent the day with the new york police counterterrorism squad. they're gearing up for a long july fourth weekend, especially given the end of ramadan on july 5th. isis claims they'll earn ten times the rewards if they carry out suicide attacks through the holy month.

workers or social issues doesn't meet that standard. there was more tough talk from donald trump about the airport attack. trump blamed the raise of isis on hillary clinton saying the terror group was formed during her tenure and is now worse than ever. he also called for stronger u.s. action. >> isis is looking strong. they look like they're winning. we have to give them a big fat ugly defeat. we have to defeat them fast. >> clinton released an early statement condemning the istanbul attack though she has yet to address it on camera. the latest polls show voters trust her more than trump. new details into the crash of egypt air flight 804. the flight data recorder indicates there was smoke inside the jet before it crashed.

that's consistent with some of the wreckage which shows signs of melting and soot. they're hoping to get more information from the cockpit voice recorder which is still undergoing repair. in montana a search underway for a grizzly bear that attacked and killed a man. the 38-year-old victim was knocked off his mountain bike by the bear. his companion got away and called for help. the victim was an officer with a forest service. this is the first fatal attack by a grizzly in that part of montana since 2001. in flint, michigan, a medical society is going against advice urging pregnant women and children under 6 years old not to drink tap water. the local doctor's group says the epa's data was collected before last month when the city's water system was flushed out, potentially dislodging residual lead. they're recommending bottled water until more testing is done. there is one more problem. donations of bottled water have dropped significantly. there's a nuclear liquid hitting shelves soon.

evidence the attack was well planned and highly coordinated. we have more from istanbul. >> reporter: the chilling airport surveillance video shows the moments before the chaos unfolded in a flash of fire, and for the time we see the face of one of the attackers. the man in the baseball cap there wearing a winter jacket on a summer day. just before 10:00 p.m. officials say he and two accomplices pulled up in a taxi. the attackers got out of a taxi at the front of the airport where the first layer of security is. they were spotted and scattered. one heading down that way, opening fire, detonating his explosive. another making it into the terminal there. you can see the busted windows. blew himself up there. the third going downstairs where people were waiting for rides and detonating there. the attacks inside the airport happened first. passengers fleeing in terror as the gunman opened fire. >> the few minutes that he was spraying, it was nonstop, automatic rifles for sure. >> reporter: steven is a freelance journalist working for abc news pulled his wife into a storage room and locked the

door. >> that's when i found the tea kettle with hot water. i figured if he opens the door, my last resort was dumping the water in his face. giving her a chance to run while i wrestled him to the ground. >> reporter: in the airport terminal, surveillance cameras capture this image, a man believed to be one of the gunmen some people cowering in terror. an explosion. >> first we hear gunfire and then screaming and everybody starts running. after one minute was the explosion. >> reporter: in the confusion, acts of bravery. this video shows the seconds before an extraordinary takedown. as families flee, a gunman rounds the corner chasing them. but he's shot by a police officers and collapses, his gun sliding across the floor. the officer approaches, but then runs for cover as the terrorist rises from the ground fumbling to detonate his explosive vest. one of the attackers detonated their vest right here. this is the arrival hall where people were waiting for their loved ones. but the terror wasn't over.

as people ran out of the airport, a third attacker was waiting. detonating his suicide vest near a line of taxis. you can see the force of the blast. the airport is open but evidence of the horror remains. bullet holes riddle the walls. glass shatters from the impact of the blast. security guards using bomb sniffing dogs and thoroughly searching cars before they approach the terminal. >> john brennan says this attack looks like the work of isis. >> and his words, brennan said it bears the hallmarks of isis. he also told congress the terror group is expected to plot more attacks against the west. >> molly hunter has more from jerusalem this morning. molly, good morning. what's the latest on the investigation? >> reporter: good morning, diane. now, investigators are poring over surveillance video, witness statements, cell phone video, anything to give them a clue as to who the attackers are. as terri mentioned in the piece, we, for the first time, saw the

face of one of the attackers, this man wearing a winter jacket on a summer's day. and the interior ministry said it's highly possible that the attackers were foreigners. we just don't know. no confirmation and no claim from isis despite brennan's comments that it bears all the hallmarks of an isis attack. it was a high-value target, foreign travelers and it damaged an already faltering turkey economy and turkey tourism industry. those are strategic goals for isis. isis sees turkey as too close to its western neighbors. as turkey cracks down on isis networks inside turkey, isis wants to destabilize their northern neighbor and yesterday hit the country where it hurts. >> this airport serves 115 countries. with that in mind, what are we learning about some of the

victims? >> reporter: that's right. a very diverse group of victims of the injured and the dead. no americans yet. i do want to highlight one of the stories you already mentioned. the turks are calling him the hero cop. his name is yasin derna. as he rounded the corner following an attacker, he gunned down the attacker. authorities are now saying he saved a lot of lives. i'm sure as the investigation continues we'll continue to hear the heroing stories of survival. kendis? >> quite a heads up move on his part. >> molly, thank you. there's progress to report in the fight against isis. iraq's military released this video showing a fight against a convoy. >> apparently it was fleeing the city of fallujah which has been recaptured by iraqi forces. the pentagon confirms as many as 250 isis fighters were killed in the strikes. 40 vehicles were also destroyed. hillary clinton's use of a private e-mail server, a senior aide said she always tried to do the right thing and use a state

republican contest has played out. romney has been one of donald trump's most vocal republican critics. though he still says he won't run. president obama is back at the white house after his final trip to the so-called three amigos summit. he got a rousing welcome in ottawa. after his speech these lawmakers shouted out four more years. it was quite a scene. he met with the leaders of canada and mexico to discuss strengthening north american policies. donald trump wasn't in the room. but he still managed to steal the spotlight. more now from ottawa. >> reporter: president obama came here to ottawa to discuss climate change and trade with the leaders of canada and mexico. they were quickly forced to turn their attention to donald trump. during a press conference they fielded questions about donald trump's stance on immigration and trade. the canadian prime minister and the mexican president said they would respect the election process in the u.s. and looked forward to working with the next president whomever that may be. but president obama dove right in to take on trump's rhetoric.

today she's the picture of health, cooking nutritious meals and hitting the gym hard. a total lifestyle change for her who said she's struggled with her weight since childhood. >> i felt different growing up because i was heavier and i couldn't do a lot of the physical activities they could. >> reporter: by college she was six feet, but poor eating habits caused her weight to spiral out of control. >> i had finished college. i was going into my teaching degree. i stepped on a scale and i was over 300 pounds. >> reporter: when she developed hypothyroidism, she knew she had to take action and control. unlike most people who rely on a diet and exercise to make the change, laura also leaned heavily on social media for results using instagram to publicly share her story.
