florida. the online site identified the driver as joshua brown of ohio. brown was drivine ining on a ha s sen -- on a highway in central florida and a tractor-trailer turned in front of him and autopilot failed to swerve. >> he even tweeted a link to this video. the national highway traffic board opened and investigation into the deadly crash and pilot system on the cars. tesla extended sympathy to brown's family and called it a rare circumstance saying neither autopilot for the driver noticed the white side of the tractor-trailer against a bri t brightly lit sky so the brake was not applied. >> every time that autopilot is engaged, the car reminds the driver to always keep your hands on the wheel and be prepared to take over at any time. a contra costa sheriff's deputy under investigation in a widening sexual scandal with a

a dozen arrests. turkish authorities trying to find any with links to the terrorists who fired assault weapons and detonated three suicide vests killing at least 40 people. >> they knew the places they wanted to be and all this indicated this was a well pl planned well orchestrated attack. >> reporter: funerals being held and memorial at the airport g w growing honoring those killed and the more than 230 people injured including one american. as authorities say in response to the attack there will be enhanced security at airports and train stations in the u.s. for the holiday weekend. >> continue to go to public events but be aware and vigilant? >> the cia and turkish authorities all agree it appears isis was behind the attack though no group has claimed responsibility.

nbc news, new york. san francisco's acting police chief and mayor showed off how officers will soon start using body cameras. >> they did their demonstration at a recruiting class! >> reporter: the san francisco police department will begin rolling them out in august. the bayview and engleside stations will be the first to have them. by the end of the year, all officers in san francisco will have a body cam. today, the mayor of san francisco was joined by the interim police chief addressing recruits going through training. this will be a different police force that will be aided by more technology, the mayor said. the force has purchased more than 2,000 body cameras. this has been a very contentious issue but the police commission approved them after a series of officer involved shootings. the police union has also given its blessing. to the cameras are part of a number of reforms that will

hopefully end the divide between the police and the community. >> you're coming in at a time when the technology is evolving and changing into the 21st century of policing with body cameras. don't let anybody fool you th k thinking this is something that will hurt you, these things are going to help you. >> reporter: a study published in 2015 in the journal of quantitative criminology found when officers used body cameras, the number of incidents invol involving force decreased dramatically. some departments, up to 64%. officers will be allowed to review the footage but only after they make a statement. in the end, the police commission voted in favor of that policy. i'm live in san francisco, leanne melendez, nbc7 news. >> thank you. >> in santa rosa, police have arrested a man dylan tai anthony heart. they believe he repeatedly st

stabbed a stranger inside a movie theater last night. investigators are looking to see if he's connected to a deadly stabbing earlier in the week. >> jonathan bloom is live at the theater with today's developm t developments. jonathan. >> reporter: it was brutal and almost certainly random. they say the victim, who was 21 years old, had just moved up here to start a new job. now, they say he's in the hospital after somebody came up behind him with a kitchen knife in the movie slrt and began s b stabbing him multiple times, scaring the patrons in the theater, sending people running down the aisle into the lobby begging for somebody to call 911. santa rosa is not used to this. >> it doesn't make me feel safe with my daughter going to school up the same street we're on. >> reporter: in a normally quiet city, the second stabbing in lace less than a week at a busy movie theater. a real life horror unfolded >>. >> the suspect came up behind the victim with a large kitchen

knife and began stabbing the victim in the upper body area. >> reporter: and employee said moviegoers streamed out shouting call 911 and the 21-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the neck. and they athis man, 24-year-old delonte hart showed up and originally from baltimore. >> he doesn't look like he lives anywhere and we believe he's ho homeless. >> he looks like a mentally ill person, he doesn't look like a normal person. >> now, they wonder if he's connected to the other stabbing, the murder of a homeless poet known as sirac. >> it's heartbreaking and you go into shock. >> reporter: sirac was well-known. >> i see him almost everyday and he speaks the same language as we do. >> it's inexplicable, the one guy downtown that never asked me for money.

>> reporter: nick was walking home a block away from the murder. >> the first thing i thought, that could have been me. >> reporter: police are investigating whether the stabbings are connected. the victim in the theater st stabbing is expected to survive. haywood school's superintendent, sam dobbs, is on paid leave while they investigate him having ex 49er ray mcdonald speak at tennyson high school. the school board approved the move in response to criticism from parents and gloria allred. mcdonald spoke on the issue of self-control last february even though he's facing rape charges and had several run-ins with the law which prompted an end to his nfl career. the bike sharing program has come to an end. it was providing the city kiosks and powder blue bikes at no cost. starting today, the company said it would charge about 160,0$160a year for the service. city leaders say they decided to

daly city, dublin, los gatos and all the bay area, this is "abc news." a high speed crash ends after crashing into several cars, light pole and fire hydrant. neither of the officers were hurt. this was around 2:30 this morning. investigators say this started when the driver refused to stop for a traffic violation and took off reaching speeds of more than 100 miles an hour and the driver got away. in oakland, a car crashed into a home with a family inside. the family is okay, the home is not. the driver drove into the house

on independent road and exiting high street and took out a fire hydrant causing a big mess for firefighters. the driver is hurt but no word how badly. and investigation is under way how a dog that was meant to be up for adoption was instead euthanized this month. >> it happened at contra costa animal services. kristen. >> it was clear there was miscommunication. the question is how did it happen? this is a picture of barbie, a 4-year-old pitbull mix. the agency says they received a last minute request from a rescue group to save barbie who wasn't available for pet adoption because she may have had a tumor. on the facebook page, barbie was a dog we were scheduled to pull and have a biopsy on a mammary mask and was told they had a foster family lined up and would have paid for medical treatments

but two days before pickup, barbie was put down. >> we don't want to be euthan e euthanizing animals that have a way home. at the same time, if we do run into a situation like that, we all love animals and it hurts us as much as everybody else. >> the agency said the investigation into a second dog euthanized around the same time shows no irregularities. this is videos of other shelter d dogs, not the two in question. it comes when there is a jump in the amount of animals saved, 45% five years ago to 80% today. contra costa is reviewing its procedures and the director promises to make the findings public. starting today, google is doing more to give you instant information how big an earthquake is and exactly where it's centered. if you feel a quake, type in earthquake or earthquakes near me in your google search bar and you'll get results showing the magnitude and epicenter of the quake. it contains tips how to stay

>> whether bbqing or beach going, things are shaping up nice nicely. sunny skies right now. this indicator of what's to come. let's move along and take a look at katherine temperatures. we have low to mid-90s in our n inland areas, especially east bay the warmest region right now, mainly 70s around the bay and upper 50s on the coast. this is a view from the mount tam camera. we will see patchy early morning fog and even spotty drizzle and mild conditions prevail tomorrow and range of seasonal temperatures for fourth of july weekend. look for low temperatures low to mid-50s and upper 50s in inland valleys in the eastbound a bay to mid-50s on the coast. the follow will push from the coast across the bay locally during the overnight hours, in morning we see clouds pulling to

the coastline and sunny skies over the bay with low clouds lingering at the coast. highs tomorrow generally in the low 90s to low to mid-90s in the warmest inland spots and mid to upper 70s in the bay and we won't get too much change from that going to the weekend. going to the beach over the three-day weekend. we look at santa cruz beach. this is the beach forecast, friday, saturday and sunday, not including monday yet. morning clouds lingering tomorrow in the beach location but peeks of sunshine saturday and sunnier afternoon conditions on sunday with highs over the weekend with warmest beaches getting in the upper 60s and morning lows around 50 or so. if you're wondering about vi viewing conditions for fourth of july fireworks, the 9:30 p.m. forecast for monday indicates coastal clouds with mainly clear skies inland and that would suggest pretty good viewing conditions not only for fireworks in the farther inland

created a crowd funding campaign to help him. being showered with praised, following a daring rescue on mt. shasta last week. they landed their chopper on the summit to rescue an in injured cli climb climber. it was the highest ever rescued. >> it began with shedding necessary gear to reach that altitude. >> didn't have any of our medical stuff. purely a rescue mode to get him off the mountain. >> i actually got a fist bump from him on the way down the mount. that was pretty cool. >> the climber, clark, suffered two fractured vertebrae in his neck and nine broken ribs and his collarbone. he is now home and walking and recovering. >> fist bump may have been the honestly thing he could do.

everything else was broken. >> geez. let's check on the weather, holiday forecast. spencer christian. >> looks like a pretty typical early summer coming our way july fourth weekend. mostly sunny skies now. today marks the end of the rainfall year beginning july 1st of last year. here's how various regions of the bay area fared. oakland finished the year at 80% of its average rainfall total. san francisco at 98%. that's pretty good. san jose, a shade over 100% of average. much better than the previous year ended. tomorrow, look for mainly sunny skies over the bay and inland. cloudy and cool at the coast. highs inland will reach low 90s. if you're thinking of heading to lake tahoe for the three day weekend, i will give you the forecast for the next three days, from, saturday and sunday, not counting monday. showers over lake tahoe. look for sunny skies saturday
