san francisco mayor ed lee was given a brief description of how the police department's new body cameras will function. >> there is an off and on button and there is a self diagnostic. >> the mayor was joined by the interim police chief in addressing recruits who will be soon equipped with the devices. >> you're coming in when technology is changing. into the 21 century of policing with body cameras. don't let anybody fool you into thinking this is going to hurt you. these are going to help you. >> reporter: it's part of a number of reforms following a growing divide between police and the community. the policy also states that officers will be allowed to review the footage only after they make a statement. the chief said it was an
