a zika-prevention bill stalled in congress, democrats and republicans can not agree on how much to spend. health officials are preparing for the spread without funding for the vaccine. leslie brinkley is live in walnut creek. leslie? >> reporter: mosquito control officials say they've gotten a lot of phone calls with people wanting to know if the virus is here. the mosquitos that carry it, there are two species. they have been detected so far in san diego, los angeles, and as far as fresno. >> they're present in california but currently, not in the bay area. >> this white-tipped mosquito, and is one of the two that can carry the virus. the new government map shows the range extends across the u.s. and well into california and encompasses the bay area. >> we're on the lookout for the species to potentially arrive

here in contra costa county. they're not here as of yet. but that could change. >> reporter: here at the contra costa mosquito lab are some of the 40 traps. mosquitos are counted and identified. last year, the species that can carry zika was detected in the menlo park area. >> it's like they're going all over the world. it's crazy. >> reporter: the zika virus has been documented as causing a potentially blinding eye infection in the new england journal of medicine. the patient is recuperating. >> we have a responsibility to take care of that mosquito. it should not create anymore. >> reporter: the bay area is poised to take action against the jeek mosquitos necessary. a large wildfire burning near the american river has grown to 2100 acres.

let's take a look above the area affected by the so called trailhead fire. look at the smoke. right now, it's threatening 2600 structures in el dorado and placer counties. the fire began tuesday afternoon. smoke from the fire could affect residents during the holiday. here in the bay area, fog could be the problem. let's check in with spencer christian. >> we have fog coming up from the coastline now. looks like the beach forecast is decent for tomorrow. there is mostly sunny skies over inland areas now. and looking at santa cruz beach, it's clear and this is our beach planner for tomorrow. we'll see mainly sunny skies throughout the day, with the exception of coastal fog, high temperatures climbing into 80s by afternoon inland, and we'll see 70s around the bay, and

mid-50s on the coast. around northern most beaches will be cooler, but santa cruz beach will be nice and toasty. and we'll take a look at the forecast coming up shortly. spencer, thank you. this fire won't prevent the mayor from holding a fire works show. firefighters shared these images after a fire works barge caught fire in burman. flames never reached other barges and you can see the destruction in this view from sky 7 hd several hours after the fire was extinguished. >> police showed off 400 pounds of fire works in a sting operation. investigators busted two people accused of selling illegal fire works. dublin has a 0 tolerance policy but is one of the few bay area city as allowing safe and san fire works to be sold. >> california has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. governor brown tightened them by

signing a half dozen new bills into law. critics accuse of governor of exposing local tragedies. eric? >> reporter: the nra is shouting it's opposition calling the new laws draconian and they say it makes law-abiding gun owners into second class citizens. the governor says what it does is make the public safer. >> they're going to make people, and criminals that are not criminals. >> burlingame gun store owner scott jackson is showing us how one new law would affect the so called bullet button on the ar-15 rifle. you needed a tool to remove the magazine. they will be classified as assault weapons that are illegal.

other bills. police arrested two men in connection with a union store jewelry burglary last week june 23rd. police say the thieves stole a half million dollars in merchandise. the owner says the value is closer to $2 million. investigators arrested a 24-year-old and 27-year-old. others question the safety of self driving stemming from a fatal accident in florida. a man was killed when an auto pilot failed to stop his tesla from careening into a truck. how this system works and we're live at a tesla dealership.
