upper 80s inland. so it will take time for the low clouds and fog to clear. we'll talk about temperatures in your neighborhood and the fourth of july forecast, as well, coming up. this morning bangladeshi officials are refuting the claim by isis that the terror group is responsible for that attack friday night at a restaurant this dhaka. bangladesh home minister says the attackers are from a domestic group joan as jmb. at least 28 people died in the attack and standoff. a uc berkeley student, take reshallr tarishi jain was among those killed. she was working at an internship. abc news has more about the loss felt more in the bay area. >> her death has devastated me. i'm in tears as i write this. >> reporter: dana wrote this facebook post moments after finding out her friend was gone

in that. >> rest in peace. >> reporter: the two lived in priestly hall together where they saw each other every day. they stayed in touch after moving out in may. tarishi sent this photo last month before she left for bangladesh. >> it's completely unreal. just to try to process what she live been going new, the terror, the fright, i can't believe, she didn't deserve any of it obviously. she was such a good person. nice, funny. >> reporter: the 19-year-old was serious about her future, though p she wanted to make a difference. that's why shele volunteered with evidethical apparel. >> her passion for life was helping people in ways that maybe are out of the norm. >> reporter: she planned to major this economics and wanted to use business to help others. >> she had her life going for her. and it's all gone now. >> reporter: while friends on campus struggle to come to terms

with what has happened, members of the bay area bangladesh soergs are angry. >> we definitely don't like and we don't want a this anymore. >> reporter: jain and 19 others died. a memorial vigil to honor tarishi jain and the others killed will be held tuesday noon at uc berkeley. 20 of those who died were eating when the militants stormed the upscale restaurant. witnesses say the hostages who could not recite verses from the koran were tortured and killed. 13 were rescued, those two officers died freeing them. isis claimed responsibility for the attack, but as we told you earlier, bangladeshi officials are disputing that. one of the two students from emory university who died, her family lived in miami.

>> just so hard to believe that she was there and she was suffering for 10 or 11 hours. i don't even want to think about it. arrested, the others killed. and we're updating the late information on the situation on our abc 7 news app. you can download it for free and enable push alerts to get instant updates on your phone or mobile device. san francisco police are looking for an attacker who stabbed one pd a then boarded a muni bus. it happened around 10:00 last knight. the 57-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. police are interviews witnesses to help find that attacker. oakland police are investigating a shooting at an east oakland duplex that left two people dead. the shooter is still on the

loose. police responded to the home on mcarthur boulevard just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. they found two people with bullet wounds. both died. officers have not released a motive for that double home side. police are investigating the discovery of a body in a residential neighborhood yesterday. investigators canvassed an area around bell avenue this green accou way. police have not released details of the sirgss s circumstances sg that death. >> water main break has damaged businesses in pleasant hill. the repairs should be done later today. >> reporter: crews have already filled in most of the washout holes the broken water main has been replaced and now they're working on repairing the pavement. >> it was all the way down the

street. >> reporter: theresa says her printing shop was not damaged, but she is still without water. >> the business not able to open because the parking lot is flooded. >> reporter: one picture framing shop got serious flooding. >> there a lot of wood and paper product and everything was very much sitting on water. >> this was a line that ruptured. it was about 12 years old. >> a significant amount of water coming up, so there will have to be repaving done and then as you can see, there is a lot of debris, a lot of rock and mud that came up. >> reporter: crews began power washing the mud that cased the parking lot. the repairs should be finished sunday. businesses are reopen then, as

well. in san bernardino, firefighters have controlled a small but fast moving brush fire that damaged five homes. three destroyed, the other two heavily damaged. two firefighters suffered minor injuries related to smoke inhalation. the flames charred nearly nine and he canners. t and i can hes. firefighters have been dealing with triple digit heat while battling nearly 3,000 acre wildfire. cellphone video shows just how big the smoke and flames got. the curry fire broke out friday. cal fire says they're think mading hot spomanaging hot spot. >> it's 103 today, dry and firefighters just need to take the rest breaks they need and stay hydrated. a wildfire in current county is threatening 300 structures.

the deer fire is burning about 50 miles southeast of bakersfield. it was sparked on friday, voluntary evacuation orders have been issued. more than 500 crews are on the line. it is 0% contained. firefighters also continue to battle a wildfire burning near the american river this eldorado. the trail head fire has scorched more than 3300 acres and forced mandatory evacuations near georgetown and forest hill. air quality officials are asking people to a precautions because of the smoke. >> i think it's really important for the public to realize if they see and smell smoke and it's bothering them, it's a good idea to then stay inside. >> the fire is now 12% contained. 2,000 fire crews are battling the fire which began tuesday.

holocaust literature. he was a champion of all victims of genocide. he died at his home here in new york, he was 87 years old. >> that was cecilia baker reporting. his family says he passed away peacefully after a long illness. happening now, caltrans is taking advantage of the light holiday weekend traffic to make major repairs on the san rafael bridge. this is a live look from the bridge toll plaza. the work is happening just beyond the area that you see in this picture. caltrans has closed the lane on the upper deck to he repair a pothole located this tin the wed direction. the pothole measures about 3 feet wide and extends deep if to the bridge deck. closure runs until 9:00 this morning. three east bay b.a.r.t. stations are closed this holiday

weekend as b.a.r.t. gets ready to connect its track to a new maintenance complex under construction? hayward. the south hayward union city and freemont stations won't reopen until tuesday. bus service is being provided between the stations, but there are likely to be delays. san francisco voters might be considering a tax this november, but not on your favorite apps and gadgets, but the companies that make them. as jonathan bloom explains, the city is facing a crisis and wants money to fix it. >> we can look around fran and see with our own eyes what is happening here in the city. >> reporter: rising rents and evisions that many blame on the tech industry. >> of the tens of thousands of new employees that have come into the city, it's led to a housing crisis. >> reporter: that's why the supervisor is proposing a 1.5% payroll tax specifically on tech. >> so require big tech companies

to pay their fair teshare. >> reporter: they're some of the same companies that got a tax break a few years ago to moving in for what was a run down stretch of market street. >> i notice that when i panhandle, it's harder for me to get my food hone. >> reporter: twitter responded by opening a child care and jobs skill center they say is a $3 million investment over four years and there are other efforts. >> the technology industry has really stepped up across the board. >> reporter: tech net favors more floep. >> i don't think that there should be a tech tax sha should be paid. >> reporter: only companies earning more than a million a year would be taxed. it would need a two thirds vote to pass in the general election. >> if he we think the numbers of people on the street are bad now, our prediction is that there will be a massive

explosion unless there is a serious commitment by the city to address this crisis. >> reporter: the supervisor says he hasn't talked to the mayor about the proposed tax but he doesn't have to. if the tax gets six votes, it goes straight to the november ballot. board could vote as soon as august 2. jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. if you can't make to san francisco tomorrow night for the july 4th fireworks, you can watch the show on your smartphone. a new app will allow users on hillsides and vantage points not near the show to experience the music. the app is pyro spectaculars and it's free on the app store and google play. 200,000 people are expected to catch the fireworks show. it begins at 9:30 tomorrow night. police all over the bay area are cracking town on illegal fireworks this weekend. in fremont, police htweeted out pictures of confiscated

fireworks. fremont has a zero tolerance policy for illegal fireworks. we've made it easy for you to find all the legal displays. just head to our website, abc7news.com, where you'll find a link to the complete list. lisa, hope the fog doesn't sw interfere as it often does with the fireworks displays. >> good chance it will. we had a robust onshore flow and the low clouds and fog getting as low as about 400 feet and that's what they need in san francisco to clear for the embarcadero fire works. but they're the experts and i'm sure the fireworks will be fine. we have mist and drizzle this morning. i'm showing you this this perspective because this is what is keeping the bay area from getting too hot. it's an area of low pressure actually a series low pressure systems that continue to press to the north of us.

and we have the steady onshore flow. nice picture this morning. 53 in san francisco. 59 in mountain view. and temperatures in the upper 50s from san jose, morgan hill 53, half moon bay 52. we have about a mile visibility from the coast up towards santa rosa. exploratorium camera, 50 santa rosa, cool 51 in napa. livermore at 57. so you felt the cooldown the past few days. and actually that continues. we have the persistent onshore flow and this morning adding mist and drizzle to the equation, morning gray, afternoon sun and, fog and fire works for the fourth of july. you heard about the beach hazard statement with the he will vaeted surf, but the water temperature is another issue with just 50 degrees at the bay.

so maybe not that inviting, but good information to pass along. hazy conditions in the northern sierra, 81 degrees in tahoe. so kind of smoky there right through reno, as well. 75 in los angeles with 93 in yosemite. so statewide, you have to deal with the poorer air quality in the northern mountains 81 today and a slight dip next couple of days. but cooler than average temperatures wednesday and thursday. even into friday. so temperatures going below average in the extended outlook. so the rest of the south bay, cloudy sky, 81 there, 84 in los gatos, 77 palo alto, red wood city. 75 a little change there yesterday to today, but the marine layer a tad deeper. 74 in sonoma. head inland, mid and upper 80s

sometimes in life things aren't meant to be, or at least that is how it seemed with a man who became from ustrated with repeated efforts to get his washing machine fixed. >> reporter: watch what happens when he put as new load in his washing machine. gets error message 8-e. bottom line, his load goes unwashed. >> just sits there. >> reporter: alex told us it's been like this since march when his washing machine broke down after just a year of use. he called the manufacturer samsung before remembering he had purchased a five year warranty from lowes. so he abandoned plan a and turned to planned parenthood b. lowes sent out a subcontractor to make repairs.

that subcontractor determined that the washer needed a new sensor which had to be ordered. but the repair man came back with the wrong part. alex would have to wait longer to use his be washing machine. >> yeah, this is easily something of a convenience that you take for granted. >> reporter: in the meantime, alex had to settle for using a local laundromat. he ended up relying on the laundromat even longer when the subcontractor determined it could not fist the washer. lowes responded with plan c, hiring a different subcontractor. that contractor didn't show up. sho so alex turned to plan >> i was flabbergasted. >> reporter: lowes agreed to replace the washer with a brand new one. lowes told us that when we learned about the problem, we were happy to arrange for it to be replaced under the extended protection plan he bought.

welcome back. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather with lisa. >> good morning. yes, mother nature's air conditioning is in overdrive. and you can see that from this vantage point, pretty shot, though. we see all the low clouds and fog. 53 in the city, 57 oakland, 58 san jose, view from the east bay hills camera, look at that, just as pretty. 50 in santa rosa with fog just over a mile. 57 fairfield, 58 in concord. so we have the low clouds and fog obviously. mist and drizzle clears just about to the city and then we'll look for it to you'move back in san francisco. so it will be a cool afternoon. 70 in oakland.

hillary clinton sat down with the fbi for 3 1/2 hours credit. the outcome could shape the race for the white house. clinton voluntarily answered questions about her e-mails and private server she kept as secretary of state and it did not take long for donald trump to pounce. mary booth has more from washington. >> reporter: at 7:40 a.m. on this holiday saturday, signs of movement at hillary clinton's d.c. home. clinton possibly slipping out to fbi headquarters and an interview that could shape the race. for roughly 3 1/2 hour, clinton is questioned about her use of a private e-mail server while she was secretary of state. shortly afterwards with the press anxiously awaiting, suvs are spotted returning to clinton's home. in a statement her campaign says clinton gave a voluntary interview and is pleased to have the opportunity to assist the department of justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. the long a it wad interview p

outspoke can disagreed and says he's disappointed. part of a national park is closed after a grizzly bear bit and scratched a visitor. it happened friday night at the denali national park. a 28-year-old woman was hiking with two other people and scared the bear off and then played dead when it charged at them. but the bear scratched and bet her. the animal has had other encounters with park visitors in the past two weeks. officials say because of its erratic behave, the bear will be located and killed as soon as possible. a scary sight in one neighborhood. fish and wildlife officials worked it with police to capture a 70-pound mountain lie on that. it was first seen dangling from a tree. there were several attempts to tranquilize the big cat, but it kept moving and made its way into someone's backyard. finally the ap-hal was cornered and subdued.

governor brown, the law could go into effect in 2017. you can start reserving your spot tonight to watch danville's fourth of july parade. about 50,000 people will line the 1.2 mile route. this year's theme honors vietnam war veterans. organizers are allow residents to put chairs, tape and other items on the street after 6:00 tonight to reserve a space. the parade starts at 9:00 tomorrow morning on is an are a ho san ramon valley boulevard. there are higher fines for illegal fireworks and open alcohol containers. you could end up paying as much as $1300 in fines and fees. police say it's he an all hands on deck weekend meaning every single officer available will be patrolling the streets to make sure people are being safe. the penalties are in effect today through tuesday morning.

be a soothing experience. but what is really going on inside their brains to make them feel that way? >> how much of the brain becomes active for hearing your mother's voice. >> reporter: daniel abrams set out to use functional mre scans to see how children in the 7 to 12-year-old range process the sound of their mother's voice. they say early research had already documented a connection even with unborn babies in the womb. >> andt fetal heart rate goes u. >> reporter: as in this demonstration, the team had mother and other women with similar voices read short made up words in to a digital recorder. the kids were then placed into the mre. >> and we say you're about to hear some voices that may be familiar to you. >> reporter: he says the voices were randomized. when they compared the pathway, they were stunned. not just voice related pathways lit up, but also different

centers in the brain that processed emotion, facial rec thigs and even reward behaviors. >> a wide broadcast of the mom's voice to all of these emotion and reward areas in the brain. >> reporter: they say it's too early to draw firm conclusions from findings, but they believe that having such varied parts of the brain keyed in on the mother's voice could be an indication of the influence on the child's social development. what they also don't know is whether other important voices in the kild's life are processed the same way. >> parents are asking about father's choice and i've gotten a bunch of e-mails saying being well,what about dad. >> reporter: answers could be coming. the team says the study will now provide a baseline for future research and as any good mother meet tell you, if you want to learn, you have to keep listening. abc 7 news. and in terms of that future

afternoon. and looking at volmar peak, looks nice. 50 in santa rosa, 51 in napa and temperatures are in the upper 50s from fairfield, concord and livermore as well as novato. back here in the city, low cloud deck all the way to about 300, 400 feet. and looking at the mist and drizzle if you're head in this morning, you may run into that you may need your wipers. we'll look for the morning gray to clear to the coast bringing us plenty of sunshine, but for the fourth, yes, very typical fog and fireworks. but at this point, it looks like the fog pushing even a little further inland across the bay. so we'll have to deal with that but strong rip currents, as well. beach hazard statement from the national weather service with the cold water temperatures anywhere from 50 to 54. so if you're headed to the beach, well, always a good idea to bring the sun block, but won't be too sunny there. 59 half moon bay, 69 in santa cruise. ocean beach in the upper 70s.

so smoke around the trail head fire, northern sierra, 93. partly cloudy in los angeles and we'll look for temperatures in pleasant ton to be nice, 86 for the afternoon. plenty of sunshine, 75 by about 7:00. so in terms of the east bay, not very different from yesterday. it will be sunny, upper 60s to near 70 for the game. a nice be looking day, numbers in the low 70s for san mateo. if you're close to the water as the fog retreats getting breezy around the bay and coast, but concord the a 83, 75 napa, 55 in rich honored today. for tomorrow, look for temperatures to be comfortable in the inland east bay, but the cloud deck, check it out, through oakland and hayward, just heading inland to sabt rosa, as well. in san francisco, experts say creating the fireworks above the fog deck, but you will have to deal with it elsewhere, as well.
