a major problem in many bay area cities, including san jose. today the san jose police department will be looking for people breaking the law. jessica castro is live with more. good morning, jessica. >> reporter: good morning, matt. police really hoping that everyone had a good night's sleep without any interruptions from illegal fireworks, but if you did, they are hoping you grab this, your phone or maybe hopped on your computer to report it because for the first time ever here in san jose, you can report illegal fireworks activity using the firefighter web site. again, it's early this morning so things are pretty quiet right now but police will be out again today and tonight in full force. they took to social media over the weekend, reminding folks they are watching. in fact, the fines are more expensive in san jose than ever before. fines range from 500 to $1,000. >> all fireworks in san jose are illegal, even the ones that are

vasco road yesterday. >> police in reno shot and killed a man officers say drove into a crowded street festival. he refused to pull over for officers when they tried to stop him from going downtown. the driver died at the hospital. nobody else was hurt. >> we're learning more about the alligator death in disney world. the father told officials two alligators were involved. matt graves said a second gator attacked hmm as he tried to reach his 2-year-old son after his boy was pulled into the water. florida and wildlife officials say they are confident they caught the gator that killed the boy. >> a bald eagle tangled in rope is safe this morning thanks to an unusual rescue. you had to see it to believe it.

martinez early this morning. amy, it looks like no one was hurt here, right? >> reporter: no one was hurt. but look behind me, it an empty field but it raises the question how did this fire start? not much burned, a couple acres. they got the call about 12:20 this morning that this was burning along the cross of bear streak road. two small fires merged together. they got it out in about an hour. no indication if this was firework related, not sure of the cause. no one hurt, no homes threatened. the good news they had out here were the weather conditions. it's not windy, very cool, very moist. that was in their favor. hopefully that will continue

today for this fourth of july holiday, at least from the firefighters' standpoint, that would be a good thing. >> also in this fire started around 10 along hanson lane. flames shot up 50 feet in the area and burned some cars. the fire reached a roofing company's construction yard and some of the materials caught fire. there was no other damage and no one was hurt. >> a fairfax family is out of their home. their home was severely damaged by a two-alarm family that started last night around 7:40. crews from several communities raced to the scene and battled the flames on ridgeway avenue. >> exterior fired that spread into the interior and rapidly
