fire. first, take a close look at what they found on the floor. debris, burned-up debris from fireworks. firefighters do think that's what caused this fire that happened in the garage. the family who lives here has been displaced. two adults and a child. even though this just happened, firefighters were quick to zero in on what happened. >> we had a fire investigator on the scene that reported the cause of the fire as illegal fireworks started that breached the wall and made it to the garage. >> reporter: vallejo firefighters got the call about 1:15 this morning to come here in vallejo. they estimated there's about $100,000 worth of damage that was done to this home. no one was hurt in this fire. reporting live in vallejo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. an effort by oakland police and firefighters to crack down on illegal fireworks seems to have done little good.

check that out. people began launching fireworks throughout the city before the sun went down last night. neighbors reported seeing illegal fireworks everywhere. peter croft posted this video on youtube and we're still waiting to hear how many people were caught by police. >> this is the first year san jose offered an online form on its city website and an app so you could report people using illegal fireworks. we understand almost 300 people used that. the very raised fines this year in hopes that people would go to organized events instead of shooting off their own. investigators have not ruled out illegal fireworks for sparking a fire that drove a woman and her dog from their home in the oakland hills. abc 7 news was there as firefighters looked for hot spots inside a burned-out duplex last night. the fire broke out just after 6:00. crews stopped the flames before they reached to other nearby homes. a fog and huge crowds could not stop people wanting to spend

the fourth of july on san francisco's embarcadero. leslie brinkley says a fairly well behaved crowd enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show. >> reporter: there was all the razzle dazzle you'd expect on a fourth of july in san francisco. people still set off illegal fireworks on the sidelines. no one stopped them. at pier 23, a man fell into the bay. bystanders pulled him out as police took over. the embarcadero and pier 39 were jammed all afternoon and evening. >> just be happy today. this is a time for celebration. >> reporter: the patriotic fervor and party atmosphere were overtaken by some visitors by fear. >> we are worried, that's why we're going back to the hotel. >> reporter: you're not going to stay for the fireworks? >> i don't think so. >> reporter: because you're worried about? >> about the terror. >> i just get scared that there will be a shooting, a random

photos and videos when you post them online. developing news in san jose where police are investigating a deadly shooting involving an officer. san jose police were called to a house just before 5:00 p.m. last night. sometime after they arrived there was an officer-involved shooting. a family member told abc 7 news it was his 18-year-old nephew who was shot and killed. he says his nephew was depressed and had tried to kill himself before police arrived. >> i just had the gun his legs. >> that's when we heard two gunshots. they sounded like high-powered rifle shots. someone was screaming and one man in the back of the police car was banging his head on the window. >> police have not said why they fired on this man. this was the fourth officer-involved shooting this year in the city. the gun control battle resumes in the u.s. house today. you likely remember that sit-in democrats staged before the july 4th holiday. it looks like there is going to

be a vote, it's just not likely to go anywhere. representatives are expected to vote on republican-sponsored legislation that would block people on terrorism watch lists from buying guns. this bill is in response to the orlando nightclub massacre. a similar bill was already rejected by the senate. house democrats have said the bill doesn't go far enough. >> democrats staged last month's sit-in. republicans cut off the tv feed of the proceedings but democrats managed to get their message out on social media. speaker paul ryan who said he would not be spintimidated by t would not be spintimidated by t sit-in called for today's vote a week later. in dhaka for the summer, jane was one of hostages killed in the attack on friday. she was a sophomore at cal. today's vigil to honor those victims starts at noon on the uc

berkeley campus. a woman and her dog are safe this morning thanks to san francisco firefighters. take a look, firefighters rescued them from a cliff. the fire department tweeted out these photos. the dog went over the cliff and the owner tried to rescue it. both couldn't get back up. neither was injured. storms in kentucky tore through some neighborhoods leaving the big mess you see there. you see the car flipped upside down because of the high winds. weather also caused thousands of dollars of damage to a walmart about two hours east of lexington. merchandise was strewn inside the store. the national weather service has not yet said whether this storm was actually a tornado. president obama and presidential candidate hillary clinton will appear on the campaign trail together for the first time today. cl clinton supported obama in 2008 after she lost in the primaries. now the president is showing his support. one objective of today's rally is to tout clinton's

achievements and experience. the clinton campaign is also vetting julian castro as a possible vice presidential candidate. donald trump is playing coy about his choice for vp. he met over the weekend with he met over the weekend with iowa senator trump tweeted a question about who would pay for the trip with president obama and hillary clinton. the government is reimbursed for the travel costs. happening now, a man made craft is orbiting jupiter for the first time ever. nasa scientists cheered when it was positioned perfectly in orbit last night. >> there's the cheer. >> over the next 20 months, it will search jupiter for signs of water, map its terrain and determine what's in the core of the planet made up almost entirely of hydrogen and helium.

average high is 90. at noon we're only 77 degrees. at 4:00, 83 degrees. so you know when antioch is cooler than average the rest of us will follow suit. we'll have a wind shift to bring a little warmer temperatures to the north bay and cooler temperatures to the south bay. we'll see our coolest so far this week thursday, a little bump-up friday and more cooler weather this weekend. back to the bay bridge, earlier accident just west of treasure island has been cleared. traffic is flowing nicely. there is reports of debris in lanes. they may have to do a quick break to get the debris out of there but right now we're looking okay. in antioch, this is eastbound 4 near hillcrest, serious major injury accident has one lane getting by. chp says it's early and it's also in the reverse commute so we are not seeing a lot of slow traffic there. here's a look at the san mateo bridge, traffic flowing nicely here, just some road work in the

gilroy police hope someone will identify the man seen on the left side of this image. he's suspected of taking nearly $1,000 from a woman's purse at burlington coat factory on saturday. the thief grabbed the purse from a shopping cart while the victim was just a few feet away. after taking the money, he handed the purse to a cashier claiming he had found it. a san francisco t-shirt shop says it has fired an employee for printing foul language on a boy's donald trump tee. the boy said it happened because of his political views. >> reporter: 14-year-old alexander isn't old enough to vote, but his support for donald trump triggered a nasty response from a san francisco business. he posted this video on youtube of a custom shirt he said he had made at bang on t-shirts on hate street. on the outside it says trump. >> on further inspection, i saw the inside left a little note. >> reporter: it says the "f" word. i talked to alexander via skype.

he said things quickly went downhill after placing his order. >> they looked at me confused and shocked because i wanted trump on it. the co-worker comes over and reads trump in a disgusted voice. >> reporter: alexander paid anyway and only noticed the profanity a few hours rater. he called the store to complain and posted videos online urging viewers to hurt the company where it hurts, yelp. we stopped by because we wanted to get their side of the story but it was closed for the holiday. someone from the head office did post an apology on the company's facebook page. alexander says the manager gave him a refund but he's keeping the shirt. in san francisco, alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. san francisco city leaders are evaluating the results of a survey aimed at establishing hubs for those tech shuttles we've seen. the idea is to narrow the places where google buses pick up tech

fireworks show over lake tahoe. a lot of people watched the fireworks from boats on the lake. this show is often named one of the best in the nation. a grassroots effort under way to save a bar considered iconic to be san francisco's lgbt community. the current owner of the stud bar wants to close it because the new landlord is tripling the rent to $9,000 a month. now a group of employees and patrons want the former coop to keep it open. >> it's been around 50 years. it's been a hub of lgbt culture in that whole time. a lot of spaces in san francisco are closing and it's not that there aren't lgbt people here, it's that we're getting priced out of where we are. >> the group s.o.s. wants to buy the bar and broker a new lease. they may also move the bar to a different location. a worker who has tended bar for 27 years is offering to pay september's rent to buy them some time. the stud is the oldest continuously operating gay bar

south of market. a pet adoption group is making a plea for the return of these kittens. they were stolen from lafayette sunday afternoon. they were being shown for adoption by community concern for cats. two teenage girls grabbed the kittens and got away in a late model silver volvo. the charity just wants the kittens back, no questions back. identity thieves have found a new way to rip you off. they don't steal your phone, they steal your phone account. michael finney alerted us to the scam last night. thieves use a fake i.d. to pretent that they're you. they walk into a store and use their identity to upgrade to a new phone. then they sell that phone for a profit or keep it and try to hack your financial accounts. you don't find out you've been scammed until your phone stops working because your service has now been switched to the new phone. happening today, a thousand junior giants players from all over the state will get a new baseball glove all thanks to buster posey.
