killed last night. those victims. >> all right. thank you so much, jessica. we're keeping tabs on events closer to home. sky 7-hd was above interstate 80 in downtown oakland. at least a thousand people walked all of the lanes of the freeway. this in response to the police shootings of african-american men in minnesota and louisiana. chp didn't get the freeway cleared until after 1:00 this morning. one sign board was set on fire. amy hollyfield has a live report on the protests in oakland. she'll join us in just a few minutes. before we get to that, we'll get to your weather and traffic. >> mike nicco, good morning. >> good morning, natasha, reggie. hi, everybody. a lot of drizzle this morning. just about all of us will be touched by it at one point. from our roof camera, the embarcardero starting to look a little wet. that's how much thick ter drizzle is. sixty at the coast, 70s around the bay, 80s inland.

we'll look at the weekend forecast next. we've got drizzly, wet roads out there, especially across the golden gate bridge. look at this from the san mateo bridge camera, moisture here as well. traffic is flowing nicely. the road are a bit slick. we have roadwork in the eastbound direction on the high-rise of the san mateo bridge. no major stalls or accidents yet. we'll check on other areas soon. 880 is back open after demonstrators in oakland blocked the freeway. our local protests against police brutality was mostly peaceful, although they definitely left their mark. amy hollyfield is live in front of oakland police headquarters. >> reporter: look what happened here at the oakland police department. vandalism here. the front door is gone. they boarded it up. they threw red paint on the door. we have a lot of graffiti out here that we can't show you because of the language. but all the protesters here said they had a list of demands for police.

>> we have to do something. we have to say something. we have to speak out. >> reporter: after they rallied here at the police department, protesters then marched onto interstate 880. they blocked it in both directions. this was near broadway. some people, while they were up there, set off fireworks. some climbed on top of big rigs that couldn't go anywhere. and then some took the opportunity to pray. >> we say, for everyone that feels that we're disrupting their status quo tonight, we say our status quo has been disrupted for 400 years. >> reporter: on city street, a few businesses in oakland including a foot locker, the smart and final. they had windows broken. those have been boarded up. and there is graffiti throughout downtown. they did make one arrest at the smart and final and say no one was hurt. the freeway has been reopened.

it was shut down for about five hours. they got it open at 1:15 this morning. live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. some police departments are ordering their officers to pair up on patrols following the dallas shootings. the order in effect in san jose as well as seattle and houston. law enforcement agencies across the country are sending their condolences to dallas. here's a tweet from san francisco police expressing sympathy to the people affected by last night's attack. >> this is a facebook post from chp thinking of those who died in the line of scrimmage of duty in dallas. a highway patrol officer saluting. we have new details about two police shootings wednesday that left two black men dead in louisiana and minnesota. last night there was another shooting in baton rouge that injured three people. that shooting happened near the place where 37-year-old alton sterling was killed. police shot sterling while responding to a disturbance call

about a man with a gun. later wednesday night, 32-year-old philandro castile was shot in a traffic stop outside st. paul, minnesota. his girlfriend was in the car with her daughter. minnesota's governor is turning to the justice department for an independent review. yesterday the governor apologized to castile's girlfriend. >> i can't tell you how sorry i am. a terrible tragedy on your family. >> i don't want you guys to be sorry. i want you to be more careful. >> we want justice. >> the fbi director says they will likely get involved in the case. we are still getting new details on the dallas shootings into our newsroom. we've been sending out push alerts on our app. we'll send you the updates as they come in. today marks six years since protests broke out over an officer found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

he shot and killed oscar grant in the early hours of new year's day 2009. it happened on the platform of the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station. they say he accidentally used his gun instead of his taser. he served about a year of hi sentence. palo alto police are investigating a suspicious death inside the a home in the southern part of the city. a family member who lives in the home found the victim around 7:ha last night on creek side drive. they will not say how the person died. >> most of the crime we have is property crime based. violent crime is exceptionally rare. something like this is also very rare. >> late last night, detectives were waiting for a search warrant so they could go through the entire house. an inspector for the alameda county d.a. who is connected to a sex investigation is out of a job this morning. the d.a.'s office says rick aroeseco no longer works there. an 18-year-old said he sent her inappropriate texts back in

december with strong sexual innuendo. he was placed on administrative leave last month. she says she's had sex with more than two dozen law enforcement officers from around the bay area. the massive fire in emeryville, the flames destroyed a five-story apartment building still under construction and damaged nearby townhouses early wednesday morning. investigators are looking into reports of illegal fireworks and also a break-in sunday at the site of that project. we're getting reports this morning of drizzle reaching all the way into our inland east bay neighborhoods. mid to upper 50s as you step outside. that's pretty much what you'll find everywhere. very homogenized air mass because of the cloud cover. oakland 58, san francisco 55. if you're going to the beaches, it will be chilly. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. the water temperature in the low to mid-50s, cloudy all day, drizzle in the morning hours. sailing, small craft advisory

six others still in surgery. jessica castro is back with us. what are we learning about the victims? >> natasha, the first officer to be identified is brent thompson. we want to show you a look at his picture. he was 43 years old. he had been part of the d.a.r.t. force 2009. that's the dallas area rapid transit. officer thompson is the first officer to be killed in the history of we'll have more information as the morning goes on. here's more footage from overnight. a total of five officers killed, six remain hospitalized. so we do expect to get more information as the morning continues. jessica castro, abc7 news. >> the mayor of dallas is

expressing his heartbreak. thank you, jessica. attorneys for the man accused of killing sierra lamar want that case moved to another county. she disappeared in 2012. her body was never found. prosecutors suspect antonin garcia torres killed her. his lawyers have filed for a change of venue because they say garcia torres can't receive a fair trial in san jose county. the san jose earthquakes will be making a strong statement today about anti-gay hate speech. members will wear t-shirts saying don't cross the line, a statement against the use of a gay slur some fans shouted in spanish during a game against the los angeles galaxy on june 27th. the quakes will hold a banner reading "say no to hate speech" during the national anthem tonight. the quake celebrated lgbt pride night last night. make or break time for america's top female gymnasts. olympic trials begin today in san jose. the athletes had a chance to run

breaking news we are tracking from texas. we know two civilians were hurt in the sniper gunfire. mayor mike rawlings has just confirmed that the suspect in a standoff with police in downtown dallas has died. three others are in custody. five dallas-area police officers are dead. six others wounded after a planned ambush-style attack. they were shot during a black

lives matter protest in the downtown area. >> we should also note this morning the security in downtown dallas remains very tight and there's still many streets blocked off as a result of this continuing investigation. it appears, though, that the shooting is over and a sweep of bombs has happened in downtown and so far they haven't found any explosives. we veal more on as the news develops. we'll turn now to this -- two americans among the injured in the running of the bulls in pamplona, spain. thousands tried to run ahead of the animals on the second day of the week-long festival. but some of the bulls got separated from the pack and began charging basically whatever was in sight. a hospital official says six people were gored and at least four others injured in falls. more than 1,000 wendy's restaurants across the nation have been hacked. wendy's says hackers obtained card members' names, expiration dates and security codes dating back to december. wendy's is offering affected

customers a year of free fraud services. the areas affected include san bruno, reldwood city, pittsburgh, antioch, fairfield, and san jose. the venetia police department has a special tribute to an 8-year-old murder victim. gavin buchanon and his parents were found dead in their cab bane in september. the father's 16-year-old son was arrested in connection with that crime. police are recognizing the younger son, gavin, for his support of the canine program. they're put nug decals on their vehicles. the 8-year-old has donated every penny of his savings to by bulletproof vests for police dogs. >> for venetia pd to do this for gavin is beyond anything we could imagine. it's just fantastic. >> the family raised more than $7,600 at a recent fund-raiser. officials say much of that money went to purchasing the safety equipment for the new canine vehicle for the police department.

san jose could be getting a new high-rise hotel. our media partners at the bay area news group report a veteran developer has applied to build a 24-story hotel on north fourth street near highway 101 and interstate 880 just north of downtown. if approved it would be one of the city's tallest buildings. let's take a look ahead as we have a 75% chance of la nina developing, colder than average ocean temperatures. what it will do for september and october and november, not very wet months, equal chances of being above and below. but the kicker, december, january, february our wettest months right now the forecast is for below average precipitation. obviously you know that's not great for the drought. it is still out there. a look at giants baseball. diamondbacks in town to take on the giant, 7:15 first pitch. 57 dropping to 55. it will be breezy with clouds on the increase. around the state, windy in the high country, about 76 degrees

that the taxpayers are protected against liability. >> the congressman of costa county pushed for the study. five major illegal marijuana growing operations in solana are out of business. sheriff's deputies found the pot growers on ryer island. they don't think the farmer who is own the land had any idea what was going on there. deputies confiscated 38,000 plants in the last few weeks. it's worth an estimated $114 million and it was destroyed on site. deputies have not made any arrests. that big feud at yosemite national park is headed for mediation. the company that operated the hotel, curry village have trademarked their name. when the contractor pulled out, they had to rename the historic park locations, making people angry. a new court filing indicating
