direction of sunnyvale. i've seen here people in newark wearing smoke masks. that is how thick it was. the fire definitely fueled by the paper and plastic inside the western pacific pulp and paper. you could, at one point, see the -- the sun and then suddenly the smoke would cover the sun and then it would look like dusk out here. now sky 7 has some great aerial shots that you could see. if we can show that. the good news is that no one here has been injured. as you mentioned, this is also an industrial area so homes were never threatened. now let's hear from some people who stopped to see this huge plume. >> people go there every day. and they've got lots of stuff. i've always thought that it would go. but i didn't think it would be when i was around. >> now are you protecting yourself because the smoke is

thick plumes of dark smoke as you pointed out. let me look at weather conditions near the fire. we'll take you down to street level. it is 69 degrees right now in newark. relative humidity is up to 73%. that is an encourage factor. the wind is light out of the northwest at 5 miles per hour with occasional gusts up to 10 miles per hour. so we don't have heavy wind which is a good thing. it is not strong enough to hamper the fire fighting effort or fan the flames. but it is just strong enough to continue carrying smoke away from the nearby neighborhoods and communities and disburse the smoke just a little bit. so here is what we can expect over the next -- oh, hour or so. winds will remain out of the northwest at 5-10 miles per hour, pushing the smoke to the south and east and newark and fremont could expect poor air quality as long as the fire continues to burn. so i'll have a further update later. >> spencer, thanks very much. and now we want to show you video sent to us by viewers
