[shouting] >> a protest against police brutality is making its way through san francisco right now. a look at the message, the impact and the police response. i'm eric thomas. thank you for joining us. break news at the essex street ramp to the bay bridge in downtown san francisco. police have seen fit to let the protest march through city streets but trying to keep them off of the bay bridge. some of the marchers are trying to get on to the bridge and affect traffic.

so the officers are trying to keep the crowd from marching on to lower deck of the bay bridge. the crowd has been assembled for 20 minutes or so and have remained peaceful so far. for more on the story right now, let check in with core bernard. >> reporter: day of protest has been a very difficult one for drivers just about anywhere south of market. protesters vowing their message, their demonstrations, will continue. >> are you mad yet? >> yes. >> we mad, we going she what we're about. >> reporter: protest blocked the entrance to interstate 0 -- 80 for an hour. the group supporting "black lives matter" they're outrageed over evens resent police shootings of black anyone in minnesota and louisiana. >> those cops should be out of

abc7 news so far no arrests no damage the dallas police headquarters building has been placed on lockdown after a threat against officers. we're learning that thursday's gunman, micah johnson, had been sent back from afghanistan after sexually harassing a female soldier and today crowds gathered to honor the officers killed in the attack. we have the latest from marcy gonzalez. >> reporter: here outside of dallas police headquarters you can see the flowers, cards, hand written notes people have been

news conference about a kidnapping. this is a live picture from the news conference. officers announces the arrested four suspects after they kidnapped a woman. the victim has not been located. oakland police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead this morning. it happened on 92nd avenue near international boulevard in east oak land just after 2:00. the victim died at the scene. last night a 21-year-old map was shot death after getting out of his car a block away. the killings are the 32nd and 33rd homicides in oakland this year. >> drugs, guns and money ceased in a bust by contra costa county detectives. it was meth, marijuana, ecstasy and firearms and 57,000s in cash. detectives made the bust on thursday at a home on elk horn

it is now 90% contained. the fire has been burning for 12 days now and has grown to nearly nine square miles. three injuries are reported by calfire. that fire is one of nine major wildfires burning across the state. visitors to twin peeks in san francisco will notice drastic changes in the way they get to and from the scenic overlook. starting wednesday, the mta will convert the eastern portion of twin peaks outfield to a car-free area for pedestrians and bicyclists and the western hall will be converted from one way to two-way traffic and they plan to create more designated parking spots. the closure is part of two-year pilot project. sometimes it's the smallest things that end up making the biggest impact. ahead, a little girl's simple gesture of gratitude that officers say means the world to them during this tumultuous

update to a breaking story at the onramps the bay bridge. protesters are now facing off with police in riot gear at the fremont street john ramp. this is video a few minutes ago a block away. the crowd has remained peaceful. officers are concerned that protesters may try to march on to the bay bridge. this closed some onramps are and telling drivers to avoid the

area. with so much heartache in texas here's the story of jail inmates who saved the life of a guard who suffered an apparent heart attack. the inmates breck out of a holding cell and yelled, screamed and honorerred for help. one inmate led the effort. >> why did you do that? >> a good man. never crossed my mind whether he has a gun or badge, falls down and i help them. >> the fellow deputies arrived and performed cpr. the deputy is expected to be okay. one of the most prestigious clay and grass festivals in the nation is happening this weekend on the peninsula. we were at the palo alto art center as more than 150 clay and glass artists showed off creations in one of the largest shows of its kind. the two-day free event features fine and functional art and collectors from throughout the u.s. >> the one show they come to

at 6:00, new sign san francisco's housing boom has slowed down and could slow even further. the newly approved bill designed to save california salmon is attacking one of its top predators. an unusual call for help had oakland firefighters responding to a storm drain. the meows of a cat caught their attention. it was trapped inside a drain. its face could be seen peeking out from the grate. the firefighters pried open the cover and the cat was rescued and is doing well.
