nate thurmond died today at age '4 after fighting leukemia for years he contributed to our "after the game" basketball show alongside larry beil. larry join us now to talk about this friend, nate. i know nate's illness kept hmm from working the find but he wented to do the show despite how sick he was. >> we were all hoping throughout the playoffs that somehow, some way nate would be able to come back. he loved to game so much and we talked basketball. it seemed like all the time we were talking about the warriors and this great season, and i would say with springtime when the diagnosis came in, leukemia, and nate had been faced with a number of serious health challenges in recent years itch thought he would beat it. he kept saying, save my seat for the finals. i'm coming back, and we were all hoping that, okay, well, maybe it might not be the start of the

finals, maybe game six or seven but the combination of unfortunately the leukemia and the chemotherapy left him too weak, and unfortunately we have this outcome that we we knew was coming but i was overwhelmed when i got the nose. he was wonderful man and you had the privilege of hanging out with us on saturday nights and we'd watch games together. anybody that nate met fell in love with him. never a bad word about anybody at any point and everybody just adored him. >> a true gentleman, and his face would just light up when you wanted to talk basketball. spent a lot of time offcamera together as well. tell us a nate thurmond story. >> i'll just give you one story that tells tells you what is ine man's heart and the kind of individual he was. we talk about a week ago and nate was making these phone calls and calling his friends,

basically, saying, thank you, and we were on the phone and he said, you know, map, we had a good run together, and i was like, past tense. what are you talking about just hit me like he was calling to say goodbye. and i immediately broke down and i was -- i couldn't even talk. i was just sobbing, and he said, larry, larry, just hang on a second. listen, okay? i'm 74 years old. i've had a great life. i got a great wife. i can't put marcy through this anymore. okay? i'm not angry. i'm at peace with what is coming. it's okay. don't feel bad for me. and he said, in a few days, i'm going to see god. and i'm just sobbing at this point. can't even have a conversation, and i said i don't want you to see god. want you to see kevin durant with me next season. and he goes, yeah, i wish. i wish i could do that. i just don't think it's going to happen, man. so thank you for everything. and i was just a wreck after

that. but here he is, he is facing -- he is looking death in the face and is trying to comfort me because i'm falling apart, and that is nate thurmond. a prince of a man, and i can't believe he's gone, and i miss him already. i just miss him. i wish there was some way that it worked out differently, but it didn't. >> i know. quite a spirit. as genting offcourt as he was ferocious on the court. thank you for the stories. we'll miss him. >> yeah. thank you, eric. >> the basketball world has responded to his passing on social media. donald foyle posted photos of the two on instagram. he said his heart breaks the won't be watching games together any longer but is grateful he and nate got to share a moment at last year's championship parade. andre iguodala tweeted, r.i.p.

their support for the government after last nights attempted coup. the flooded into city squares to cheer democracy. crowds chantedded, our land cannot be divide. the turkish president, erdogan, blaming the coup on a cleric who lives in the u.s. and is demanding the arrest of the man. the u.s. says it will examine the evidence carefully but turkey has to prove wrongdoing. he says he has been out of turkey for 16 years and had nothing to do with the coup. donald trump formally introduced his running made it to. trump called indiana governor mike pence a man of character. however the two differ on social issues. trump has said hi supports an amendment of the 1964 civil rights act to include discrimination based on sexual orientation in contrast, pence has been criticized for signing indiana's religious freedom law which allows businesses to discriminate against gays and
