and we do say good friday morning, everyone. we'll begin with the grand finale to the grand ole party convention. donald trump now the nominee. >> trump painted a bleak portrait of the country and the world placing the blame on hillary clinton and president obama, but he declared he's the one who can fix it. >> right after the speech, trump and running mate mike pence signed the official papers formally accepting their nominations in writing. abc's stephanie ramos is live in cleveland for us this morning. stephanie, good morning. >> reporter: kendis and diane, good morning. the crowd here last night was energized. we heard familiar chants, we saw standing ovations and donald trump hitting up terrorism, poverty and hillary clinton during one of the longest convention speeches in decades. donald trump sealing the deal. >> i humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the united states.

>> reporter: on the final and biggest night of the republican national convention, the billionaire businessman turned gop nominee ended his party's convention the way he began his campaign, attacking the political establishment. >> i have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people who cannot defend themselves. >> reporter: and painting a dark picture of america, but one he promises to fix. >> the day i take the oath of office, americans will finally wake up in a country where the laws of the united states are enforced. >> reporter: trump's speech jumping from terrorism, the economy, even remembering the 49 people who lost their lives in orlando. >> as your president i will do everything in my power to protect our lgbtq citizens.

>> reporter: this part of his extra long 1:15 speech bringing a trump supporter to tears. >> i have a gay son and i know in his heart he feels the republican party doesn't embrace his lifestyle but we do. we love him. >> reporter: then came a familiar theme throughout the convention, trump intensifying attacks against his democratic rival. hillary clinton. >> this is the legacy of hillary clint clinton, death, destruction, terrorism and weakness. >> reporter: now, kendis and diane, if you listen closely, you can hear some of the equipment and some of the teardown that's happening right now on the convention floor. as soon as everyone cleared out crews came in for the cleanup clearing out all of the chairs, lifting the red carpet, sweeping up all of those popped balloons that you'll remember that there were 125,000 balloons just hanging on to the ceiling, those

balloons came falling down with confetti at the end of donald trump's big speech at the end of the night. so very messy but the cleanup crew is doing an amazing job. they're pretty much all done happening right now. >> it's amazing how quickly they work and how quickly the scene changes. >> yeah, absolutely. to get rid of all that balloon, all that confetti as well probably giving her the stank eisaiing are you done, let's get out of here. >> reporter: that's right. we've had a couple of workers come in and say, hey, can you give us a minute to remove the banner that's right below us here and just five more minutes, i promise. but do want to let you know hillary clinton's campaign manager did say that next week in philadelphia the democrats will, quote, focus on the issues, not anger, kendis and diane, that convention kicks off on monday. >> absolutely. >> and the entertainment continues. >> yes, it does. >> yes, it does. >> we want to give one more bit

adamantly defended his decision not to honor the pledge to support the gop nominee. >> that pledge was not a blanket commitment that if you go and slander and attack heidi that i'm going to nonetheless come like a ser vial puppy dog and say thank you very much for ma lining my wife and maligning my father. >> cruz called his decision a matter of principle and also made it clear it was intensely personal. >> so as stephanie mentioned democratic national convention kicks off monday in philadelphia and hillary clinton expected to announce her running mate today in the battleground state of florida. senator tim kaine and secretary tom vilsack among the top contenders. southern california, a brush fire spread to a motel filled with guests. it happened at the super 8 motel forcing people to evacuate. this dramatic video shows some of those guests running to their cars and shouting to alert others, as well. at least two buildings and

gunfire with police. the police superintendent said it was another example of too many guns and too many people willing to use them. the injured officer, though, will be physically okay. one of the fallen baton rouge police officers will be laid to rest today. matthew gerald was only on the job four months before he was gunned down. he served in the marines and army and will be buried in a veterans cemetery not far from baton rouge. there will be a full transparent investigation of the shooting of an unarmed black man. the officer did not have the same vantage point as this video which shows charles kinsey and an autistic patient he was caring for on the ground. the police union claims the ivor who opened fire thought kinsey was in danger and that he meant to hit the patient. residents in a small colorado town have been told not to drink water from their taps. that's because some tests there in hugo, colorado, have found the water is contaminated with
