it's saturday, july 23rd, good morning and thanks for joining us, i'm chris nguyen. frances, you're tracking the heat for us. >> yes, the heat is on, you'll feel it especially this afternoon. notice at 6:00 this morning, antioch is already at 68 degrees, we also have 47 degrees in half moon bay. cooler there. san francisco, 55 and san jose 60 degrees, we're warmer compared to yesterday at this time. that's the trend that will continue tomorrow. antioch 10 degrees warmer. pretty shot showing you very weak marine layer trying to break through but with high pressure prevailing we'll see temperatures climb inland. so we've got just a little bit of cloudiness for the 7:00 hour. by noon, plenty of sunshine. the uv index will be extreme and temperatures will be climbing into the low 90s.

laura anthony will be live in philadelphia beginning on monday. one day after accepting his party's nomination, donald trump spent much of the first news conference rehashing a primary fight with his rival ted cruz. trump revived the unsubstantiated accusation that cruz's father met with a whman o killed jfk. >> i don't want his endorsement. what difference does it make? i don't want his endorsement. i don't want his endorsement. ted, stay home, relax and enjoy yourself. >> trump's next scheduled campaign stop is monday in winston salem, north carolina. developing news in southern california, a monster fire is burning just north of los angeles. more than 200 homes are under a mandatory evacuation. it started yesterday at around 2:15 in the afternoon. some people have taken horses and other animals to an evacuation center. the fire exploded in size

yesterday to more than 3300 acres because of triple digit temperatures and gusty winds. containment is at zeer percent. isis has claimed responsibility for a bombing that killed at least 61 people and injured 207 others. it happened during a protest march in the capital city of kabul. the pro testers were demanding that a major regional electric power line be routed through their i am pofrished home province. less than 40% of the population connected to the national grid. overseas, new details in the shooting in munich, the teenage gunman who killed nine people in a shooting rampage at the shopping mall does not appear to be ties to terrorist. >> reporter: german authorities with new details on young man who open fire at the olympia shopping center on friday evening. they now say all signs point to the 18-year-old german iranian born in munich as being the lone

attacker who killed himself after murdering nine others. most of them teenagers, he was a student and police say there's no evidence to connect him to isis or any other islamic extremist group. the police raiding the apartment where the teen is believed to have live with his parents, articles in a books about school shootings, just before 6:00 p.m. on friday, outside mcdonald's at the shopping center, he draws his weapon, a pistol and starts firing. seemingly randomly on passers by. then in another clip, the suspect paces the roof top of a parking garage then raises his gun and appears to take aim and fire. >> people running towards us, they were panicking and in shock. >> reporter: the city quickly put on lockdown as police swarmed and sealed off the area around the shopping center and parents holding children close and families running through the street. people told to keep their hands in the air as they were

evacuated and shattered car windows and body covered in a sheet as paramedics arrived to treat the wounded. the transportation system shut down and residents told to stay in their home because of initial fears there are three gunmen who escaped. >> nobody really knew what was going on. >> reporter: this horrific attack coming on the heels of another days ago when a 17-year-old afghan stabbed passengers on a train with an axe and knife. apparently inspired by isis. and at least 84 dead in the teal day attack claimed by isis. back in munich, a fuller picture but the exact motive of what drove the attacker to kill so many in cold blood is still unclear. and that was alex reporting. a full flight from sfo to munich took off last night and scheduled to land at 9:00 this

morning. we spoke with passengers before takeoff. >> reporter: as passengers checked in for this flight to munich, there was a sense of uneasiness. >> it's a concern. it's been happening all over the world. >> i would have never thought what happened so close to us, like happened in france before and everybody else, i would never think it would be in germany. >> reporter: he was waiting with his girlfriend who will stop over in munich first. >> my parents said to me, i should be very careful when i'm there and they are very scared. >> reporter: the situation on the grounds in munich has been resolved. they believe the lone shooter may have committed suicide. some bay area residents called the german consulate wondering if they should warn loved ones traveling there. >> should they leave? i calmed them down, this is over and this is unfortunately something that can happen anywhere in the world these days. >> reporter: for those who are from munich, this is a shocking

near big sur has spread to 2,000 acres. the monterey county sheriff's office has ordered mandatory evacuations. we know that at least one structure is threatened, a red cross shelter is now open at caramel middle school. police are investigating a deadly train accident involving a pedestrian. yesterday sky 7 hd was over washington avenue in chapman road around 6:00 p.m. where police say an amtrak train struck a woman. they spoke to witnesses trying to figure out if it was an accident or suicide. also in san leandro, police arrested two burglary suspects. accused of breaking into a home early wednesday morning. surveillance video next door captured images of the burglaries and undercover officer matched descriptions later that day. they believe they followed a customer home from a marijuana related store hoping to find cash and drugs but may have broken into the wrong home.

6:13 is our time, the governor stepped to block the prison release of a former member. in april, a california review board granted her parole but yesterday governor brown denied it saying she was an unreasonable risk to society. it's been two days since a southwest airlines glitch led to hundreds of flight cancellations and thousands of delays. this morning passengers here in the bay area are still facing frustration. abc 7 news reporter has the details. >> reporter: theresa is trying to get home to san diego. >> pilots ready to go. i volunteered to be a flight attendant. didn't have a flight crew to back up the pilot so they canceled the flight. >> reporter: she was rebooked on a flight eight hours later but at least got a coucher. ron harlow came to san jose on business, if his flight gets canceled he's stuck for the weekend which means missing out at home. >> my children expect me to take them out to a concert on

saturday night and my bed and my pillow. >> reporter: southwest says a router failure wednesday caused a systemwide failure. since then the airline canceled 1500 flights. 4500 have been delayed. in a live social broadcast, southwest official called it the highest level of disruption in years. >> what we're doing is trying to reset the network and that is a complicated piece that we have to do but it takes two or three days to totally get to. we weren't comfortable. >> sort of a domino for the whole family, for those traveling and here as well. parking the car, circling the airport. >> reporter: at sfo, the southwest line was even longer. frustrated passengers blamed a lack of staff. three people chatting together, kind of laksidaisical. >> fewer weekend flights should help them get back on track, abc

we could see a few patches of fog along the coast and everywhere else by late morning, plenty of sunshine, pretty much for everybody, that's going to allow temperatures to really warm up today. we'll be near 100 in gilroy. 98 degrees for you there. san jose at 87. santa clara at 85 and redwood city looking good at 82 degrees and if you want to head to the beach, it's going to be mild there as well. daily city, 64 degrees, downtown san francisco, 68. and our warmest area in the north bay will be ukia at 101, santa rosa 94 degrees and san rafael, 84 degrees. warm conditions in the east bay with low 80s through newark and free mont. triple digits in brentwood, 100 in antioch. fairfield 99. upper 90s through concord and

thanks for joining us, we're starting this half hour with a quick look at the weather. frances is tracking conditions where you live. >> we're seeing a wide range of temperatures right now. it's cool along the coast, half moon bay, 48 degrees and san francisco 55 but then check out inland numbers antioch, already 67 degrees right now. san jose is at 60 degrees. so we're generally warmer than we were compared to yesterday at this time and that's the trend that's going to continue into the afternoon hours. we're looking over a little bit of low clouds there near the golden gate bridge but we'll see plenty of sunshine later on. sunrise just happened shortly after. we've got already sunny conditions over most of the bay area, extreme sunshine this afternoon so definitely have sunscreen handy. by 4:00, we'll see our warmest temperatures reaching triple digits in the inland areas. i'll let you know how long the heat will last with the

know. >> reporter: last july kate steinle was walking with her father when she was shot and killed by a convicted felon in the country illegally. weeks later we were in washington, d.c. as they pushed for immigration reform. since then politicians have shared her story time and time again, including at the republican national convention. so far the family says there's been a lot of talk but very little action. >> don't pay too much attention to it. they are going to say what they are going to say. i really have no saying what's going to be put out there. >> reporter: at the home where kate grew up in pleasanton, her big brother brad is making memories with a family of his own. he and his wife welcomed reese katherine steinle and call her an absolute blessing. >> has a little bit of knowing what she wants and is really independent like kate. it has to do with the fact she's a steinle and also a sag tear yus like kate. the steinle's will hold the good

the suit seeks unspecified damage. the naacp is leading a peaceful protest in hayward and in response to the recent killings of black men and police officers. organizers say the protest is meant to unify the community and serve as an outlet to express their feeling. the goal is to march for equality and justice and protest starts at 1:00 this afternoon at the hayward naacp office on b street. there was a moving tribute for fallen officers yesterday, not only for those killed in dallas and baton rouge but also for those who died in the line of duty here in the bay area. abc 7 news reporter vick lee has the story from san francisco. ♪ god bless america ♪ land that i love >> reporter: those gathered here remembered their fallen colleagues from attacks in dallas and baton rouge. >> wake up, america. our police officers are the good guys. >> reporter: officer brian

tavarro, nick burkeo and sergeant darrel -- >> reporter: police union president read off the names of his colleagues, officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. the police union said they chose this date because hayward police sergeant scott lunger was killed a year ago. san jose police were also mourning their losses. officer michael katherman and michael johnson shot to death. >> we have been devastated by losing two officers in only 15 months. >> reporter: those also remembered san francisco firefighters, lieutenant vincent perez and anthony valerio, who died in a house fire on diamond heights. they also mourned those who died across the bay. >> in oakland it has been seven years since we lost our four heroes in one day and we're still healing. >> there were officers mike
