officers. the man sped away when they tried to pull him over this afternoon. he then ditched his car and ran into a home on hill view drive. police followed and they say he followed them biting an officer in the hand. >> they requested a catered employment. >> officers confirmed they used a taser. the officerses were able to revive him. he died a short time later and is wanted on drug charges. >> new at 11:00, a san francisco police officer accused of having an ar assault rifle. he surrendered at san francisco county court or jail today. he faces two felony counts of manufacturing and possessing an assault weapon. the berkeley resident is an 18-year resident on the force and on administrative leave. fellow officers reported him to internal affairs.

now to developing news. late today the governor's office declared a state of emergency for monterey county. tonight more than 1600 homes are threatened and more than 23,000 acres have burned so far. the fire is just 10% contained. this will get worse before it gets better. sandhya patel is tracking the weather conditions on the fire lines. let's begin with katie who is live in the newsroom with a rescue made in the middle of those raging flames, katie. >> eight men lost for nearly a week in the hot zone were finally able to call 9-1-1. a few hours later they were found and they are okay. >> it is smoky and hard to see anything. >> on top of fiesing the massive -- on top of fighting the massive fire the crews on the ground and in the air found themselves searching for lost hikers. >> i was told one of the last cell phone calls was the 20th. >> six days stranded and surrounded by fire. eight people are now found. >> the ground researchers found the hikers and there

were bulldozers being put in. >> the men were thirsty and hungry, but otherwise in good condition. >> we go outside before we go to bed. you know, are there sparks in the air? can we smell smoke? >> the fire takes a toll on those who live in the area. >> he has been under an evacuation warning. >> your mind is pre occupied on the second level instead of cooking dinner or doing the task of the day. it is an ever present thought in your mind. where is the fire and how safe are we? >> it is a tough time for homeowners and a tough fight for firefighters. >> it is a dynamic situation. you are dealing with homes and subdivisions and dealing with wildland in steep terrain. >> it has destroyed at least 20 homes. abc7 news. >> thanks, katie. and now let's go to sandhya patel. >> take a look for yourself right now. relative humidity is 93%. that is actually going to help those firefighters. it is a cool 53 degrees and

have children and you want to get away where it is comfortable, i want to point your attention to two things to watch out for. they are not going to come our way, but what they will do is actually bring in a small swell this week. be careful. the risk of rip currents will be high along the coastline even though there is an advisory. speaking of, 61 in half moon bay. look at this. 44 degrees higher in fairfield and antioch and livermore with 105. it is pretty hot even around the bay in places like santa rosa, 94 in san jose. 83 oakland and 75 in san francisco m here is a look at the fire danger that will continue. moderately high tomorrow afternoon and evening particularly in the east bay out toward the delta and the north bay areas for your wednesday afternoon and evening. keep that in mind out toward ante yak -- toward antioch. the temperatures are warm inland in the 70s and 80s.
