abc7 news starts right now with live breaking news. a large streaking object racing across the sky. brand-new video just into the abc7 newsroom shows the fiery scene a short time ago. and people in the bay area are not the only ones who say they saw this strange celestial sight. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. witnesses took to twitter and called into our newsroom tonight and reported seeing a large streaking object in the sky across the western u.s. including the bay area, san diego and in nevada, utah and idaho. >> abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has more. >> i spoke with a man in livermore who captured it with his cell phone. he says he was outside with his friends when he saw the bright light moving fairly slowly across the sky. he said he grabbed his phone and started rolling and then posted this to youtube. >> i have seen a shooting star and it lasted four seconds.

i thought about making a wish and then it kept going. >> another angle and this is a video out of utah. you can see a more defined trail. it looks like it was made up of smaller pieces. one more angle for you. this video shared with us from rancho cucamonga from down in southern california. you can see the object making its way across the sky. right now no definitive answer as to whether this is a meteor. the national weather service says it is not, rather it is a piece of space junk. we did reach out to vandenberg air force base and they tell us it was definitely nothing they launched. >> thanks very much. now to our other top story. >> day three of the democratic national convention. >> president obama passes the baton to hillary clinton at the dnc. >> i ask you to do for hillary clinton what you did for me.

are live from philadelphia. donald trump's campaign released a statement calling it a sad night for the democratic party. they said the convention offered no solutions. democrats and even republicans spent the day slamming trump for these comments implying that russia should hack hillary clinton's e-mails. >> russia, if you are listening, i hope you are able to find 30,000 e-mails that are missing. i think you will be rewarded mightily by our press. >> after his morning news conference trump doubled down with the call with a tweet asking russia or any country that might have clinton's e-mails to share them with the fbi. mike pence and paul ryan said russia must stay out of u.s. elections or face serious consequences. many democrats called it an act of espionage. developing news in the east bay tonight. family and friends of a young

soldier are mourning his sudden and unexpected death. he died during training at fort benning, georgia. cornell bernard is live at de la salle high school where mike played football. >> yes, he played football at de la salle and west point. friends and coaches call him an athlete and a true soldier. >> this is heartbreaking hearing the news today. >> this football coach didn't want to believe it. one of his former star players, 21-year-old mike paros is gone. >> he was dedicated to our school, to our team and dedicated to our country. not a good day for everybody involved. >> second lieutenant mike paros died during his first week of army ranger training. the army said he was being treated for hyponutrimia. a low sodium in the blood sometimes caused by drinking too much water. >> there is just shock.

francisco, santa rosa, san jose all in the low 90s. here is a look at the smoke from the fire around the monterey county area. notice the smoke was drifting to the northeast. some of it made its way toward the bay area and it continues to impact our air quality. that along with the heat will mean another spare the air day. you will have good air quality, but poor in the east bay of the moderate for the south central bay. good idea to use mass transit if you can. we expect the air quality to improve into the weekend and the temperature start to drop. not much of a drop inland. you are in the midto upper 70s. along the coastline and along the bay we are seeing much cooler weather. it should be good sleeping weather for you. here is what your commute will include. coit tower from in our camera. the fog will booy thick. will be thick. it remains hot for two more days. the heat is easing this upcoming weekend.

when you get going there are a variety of conditions. there are low 60s for most of you. upper 40s to the upper 50s around the coast in -- and the bay where you will start off with the fog. here is the hour by hour forecast tomorrow morning. we begin with the fog and even some spotty drizzle. you will see it at 6:00 a.m. we head into 8:00 a.m. and the fog is still around parts of the bay and the beaches. expect it to linger into the afternoon. hazy sunshine in the south and east bay as we can see the smoke continuing to drift northward plenty of sunshine. we will see a different microclimate tomorrow. hazy in the south bay. 88 in san jose. 97 in morgan hill. the temperatures are coming down a little bit over today. 83 in sunnyvale. 74 in santa cruz. low to mid80s redwood city to palo alto. 59 and foggy in pacifica and daly city. 67 in downtown san francisco. north bay 80, 84 in petaluma.
