weekend. making news in america this morning, history made. hillary clinton accepts her party's nomination outlining her vision for america and taking shots at her republican opponent. >> he spoke for 70 odd minutes and i do mean odd. no wonder he doesn't like talking about his plans. >> clinton's big night in the spotlight. bernie sanders supporters not going down without a fight. we're live in philadelphia. and donald trump voices his frustrations as well taking shots at several speakers at the dnc but especially focusing on one. >> i was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. >> so, who is that guy he wants to hit? >> who is that little guy and breaking right now two police officers shot overnight. a major update on this massive manhunt for suspects just in.

we do say good morning on this friday, the history-making democratic presidential ticket prepares to hit the road together in a matter of hours. >> hillary clinton officially accepted her party's nomination for president last night vowing to build up the economy and defeat terror. she also slammed donald trump as divisive and mocked his temperament. chelsea clinton introduced her mother reflecting on her own childhood and portrayed a softer and personal side of her own mother. abc's lauren lyster has the latest from philadelphia, lauren, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, diane and kendis. yeah, hillary clinton giving a final speech at the democratic national convention. they're still cleaning up from it. she took aim at donald trump throughout. she also laid out her vision for policy on everything from jobs to gun control and the history of the night was not lost. ♪ this is my fight song >> reporter: a sea of applause

president will be to create more opportunity and more good jobs with rising wages. >> reporter: and in a week where party divisions for democrats at times have been on clear display, clinton speaking directly to bernie sanders supporters. >> i've heard you. your cause is our cause. >> reporter: the democratic nominee addressing some of her flaws too. >> i get it that some people just don't know what to make of me. >> reporter: and now maybe those who don't know what to make of her are going to get more of a glimpse. she hits the campaign trail with her running mate tim kaine. they're headed on a three-day bus tour of pennsylvania and ohio with just 100 days until the election so, you know, ticktock, kendis and diane. >> ticktock, indeed. it's been several hours since the last balloon dropped and they're still popping balloons behind lauren, i should point out. by the way, we saw your story about bernie sanders supporters. how was the reaction there in

the arena? >> reporter: that was a big question heading into hillary clinton's speech because we had seen such acts of vocal protest earlier in the week. we did learn that bernie sanders' camp had sent a message to their supporters saying, please be respectful. do not disrespect her during this speech. we didn't know what was going to happen. in a sign of solidarity, many of them wore neon shirts that said "enough is enough." they even glowed in the dark and some of the supporters told abc news that that was to protest the dnc and show solidarity with bernie sanders. there were some walkouts. there were also some scattered vocal protests, but they were really quickly drowned out by the crowd chanting "usa, usa" over them so really not a massive amount of protests but pockets here and there. >> all right, so they made sure they were seen last night. clinton in her speech said that she is also listening to them, as well, and we'll see if that was enough to win them over as the campaign goes forward. lauren lyster live in philadelphia all week for us. lauren, thanks so much for your hard work all week.

>> so, president obama was -- as you hear the pop there of one more balloon, and it's been hours. president obama was among the first, i would say, to congratulate hillary clinton following her speech. >> the president tweeted, "great speech. she's tested. she is ready. she never quits, and that's why hillary should be our next potus." and he added, "she'll get the twitter handle too." as you can imagine, donald trump had a different view and also weighed in on twitter but he's also already hit the campaign trail again and held an event last night in iowa, one of the states that he lost to ted cruz. >> yeah, he was quick to mention the democratic national convention even saying that he has the urge to hit some of the speakers. abc's adrienne bankert is following the details of that for us, and she joins us now in studio. good morning. >> good morning to you, diane and kendis. donald trump wasting no time after the democratic national convention wrapped up slamming the democratic presidential nominee tweeting, quote, no one has worse judgment than hillary clinton. at a rally in davenport last night the republican nominee responding to some of the harsh words democrats fired at him saying he wanted to, quote, hit

some of the convention speakers. he was particularly upset by an unspecified person who he called a little guy. >> they're really saying bad things about me. i'm going to hit them so hard. i was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. i was going to hit this guy so hard, his head would spin. he wouldn't know what the hell happened. >> reporter: and some speculate trump was talking about another billionaire, former new york mayor michael bloomberg who was very, very critical of trump while speaking at the dnc wednesday night. now, we've heard trump say he would hit hard many times when calling his opponents to task as a figure of speech. today trump campaigns in colorado with a town hall and a rally in denver tonight. kendis, diane. >> all right, our thanks to adrienne bankert. thank you. breaking news, a police officer is dead after a shooting in california. it happened in the southeast section of san diego. police say two officers in a gang unit were shot multiple times. one officer died at the hospital. the other officer is in surgery.

investigators say they have one person in custody and that suspect also was shot. overseas pope francis arrived for a history of making visit to auschwitz this morning. that's a nazi concentration camp in poland where more than a million jews -- more than a million people mostly jews were killed during world war ii. he has prayed at the site of those executions and met with several survivors. the heat wave will finally break today but severe weather moves in. looking at the radar you can see heavy rain moving through the mid-atlantic and northeast right now. damaging winds are the main threat there, but there's heavy rain expected too, up to 3 inches in certain cities like boston all the way down to washington, d.c. and look at the hail overnight in colorado. it looks like snow in these pictures. >> yeah, it does. >> this is from colorado springs. the fire department there tweeted that they performed several water rescues after flash floods, as well. there's also damaging hailstorms in nebraska and wyoming. >> looks like you can shred some serious gnar on that. >> yeah, probably not very easy

return home after a wildfire was knocked down near palmdale. about 25 acres burned before fire crews were able to get a handle on it. north korea is accusing the u.s. of crossing the line after adding leader kim jong-un's name to its list of sanctioned individuals. a north korean foreign ministry official says personal sanctions against kim jong-un are a virtual declaration of war. he's also warning that a showdown could erupt if the u.s. and south korea hold annual joint military exercises as planned next month. now to that emotional gathering in baton rouge, louisiana, honoring that city's fallen police officers. vice president biden and attorney general loretta lynch expressing support for the families of officers matthew gerald, montrell jackson and brad garafola. they were killed by a gunman who authorities say was targeting police. the vice president said the slain officers were defined by their courage. more criminal charges are expected to be filed today in connection with the water crisis in flint, michigan. the water became contaminated with lead after the city switched its water source to the

flint river in a cost-cutting move. three official, one from the city, two from the state have already been charged with felonies. and a horse named cupcake is recovering this morning after an incident that generated quite a bit of internet fame. 13-year-old cupcake fell over in some muddy water during a horseback ride. it was in a colorado state park yesterday. a rescue squad and a vet were called in to save her, and the world of social media watched. cupcake even received an i.v. to give her more energy throughout the rescue. she was then finally helped to her feet, and we're happy to report cupcake made it home. she is recovering. >> yeah, she looked pretty sprite there in the end. when we come back, a fearless fall, a daredevil preparing to jump from a plane without a parachute. >> no thank you. and who wore it best? a congresswoman shows up at the dnc with the same dress that melania trump wore at the rnc. was it an accident? n accident?

we want to move on now to an astounding turn of events in the murder case of former washington, d.c. intern chandra levy. >> prosecutors have dropped all charges against the man convicted of killing her. you might remember levy disappeared in may 2001. her remains were then found in a washington, d.c. park the next year. former congressman gary condit was romantically linked with her but he was cleared in the case then six years ago an immigrant from el salvador was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 60 years. today her mother reacted with amazement at the turnaround. >> i'm in a state of shock, and our wish is that the right person whoever did what they did to my daughter, we get answers. >> now with charges against him now dropped, ingmar guandique will be released to immigration authorities. he faces deportation. and prosecutors aren't elaborating on what exactly caused them to doubt their case. in florida the largest supplier of blood in the state is making changes over fears about the zika virus.

the company will begin testing all blood collections for the virus using an experimental screening test. this follows the fda announcement that it was suspending blood donations in miami-dade and broward counties. four cases of so-called homegrown zika have been discovered in florida. and a burglary suspect in texas is probably happy that police actually caught up with him. officers had to rescue him from a burning car after a high-speed chase. speeds reached more than 100 miles an hour before slamming into another vehicle. the suspect and two alleged accomplices are all facing charges. and how is this for a made for tv spectacle, tomorrow, late tomorrow, a daredevil who made 18,000 parachute jumps over the last 30 years will make another jump, this time no parachute. he says if he wasn't nervous, he'd be stupid. abc's kayna whitworth spoke with him directly. >> yeah, luke. >> reporter: we're with the daredevil taking off his parachute and taking on an extreme death-defying skydiving stunt. >> i was born to fly. >> reporter: 42-year-old luke

officers in the gang unit made a traffic stop at 11:00 south of downtown san diego. a moment later they called for emergency backup. additional police arrived both officers were shot multiple times in the upper body. the officer who died has wife and two children. the other officer is married. the chief said they have a man in custody. he was found near in an oprah convenience area and is being treated for a gunshot wound. >> we have one suspect in custody. we do not know in there is a second suspect. >> san diego police chief would not call the shooting an ambush but said the officers caused for backup came immediately after making the stop. there is a potential second suspect. natasha? >> developing news from san jose this morning, police are conducting a murder investigation. officers responded to a shots fired call at willow
