using jet skis and boats. the person who called for help said a man fell into the water off 50 to 100-foot cliff. a coast guard rescue boat was able to retrieve the man but this rescue did not have a happy ending. >> the units retrieved the victim from the water ask and he was transported by the coast guard to marin, the base for the coast guard. unfortunately the adult male has deceased. >> reporter: at that time battalion chief says this is unfortunately not the first water rescue they have had to respond to out here recently. he warns the cliff and coastal winds can be tricky and visitors should stick to the trail. there's a few details we do not know, including how the person fell into the water and an identity of the person and the

person called for help, hopefully we'll have that information on abc7 news at 11:00. reporting live at pointos in san francisco. >> a fire on the tracks at the walnut creek bart station brought service to a halt. the fire is out but service remains slow. lisa amin gulezian is live from the station. >> reporter: a lot of progress has been made in the past hour or so. take a look. you can see crews are working right where the fire started on the third rail on platform 2, the westbound side. now, everything, however, is being single-tracked from platform one. this whole thing start after 3:00. that's when the fire was first spotted. smoke could be seen for miles. the fire ran about 50 feet and took firefighters about 30 minutes to put it out. they think a faulty power pickup paddle is to blame. those paddles move and send power into the train.

>> sometimes that's get stuck in an up position and if they do, they make contact with that fiberglas covering, which would have the potential to set it on fire. so we think that's what happened. we don't think it was anything else that caused the fire. >> reporter: until recently service was cut off completely at the walnut creek bart station so movement was only possible from bay point to pleasant hill and then from lafayette on. it's not clear when platform two will re-open. only one platform is open so delays will continue until everything is up and running again. live in walnut creek, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> get updates from bart or other bay area transit with our abc7 news app. federal investigators are headed to texas where a hot air balloon crash killed 16 people this morning. it happened near the town of

lockhart. outside of austin. the faa says the balloon hit power lines and then crash. >> aheard a whoosh and then just a big ball of fire up. >> all 16 people were inside the balloon. that's the maximum number allowed under federations. two years the ntsb issued a warning about the potential for a hot air balloon accident with a high number of fatilities if the faa did not adopt stricter regulations. the faa rejected those safety recommendations because so few people go ballooning. >> morgan holy police are on the look for bank robbers. wilt is did not good good descriptions. they were covered from head to toe. police said they got away in a blue ford focus like the one you see on the right. tonight bart is investigating an arrest made by some of its own officers. cell phone video of the incident

has gone viral. witnesses believe it was a case of excessive force. i happened inside the embarcadero bart station as police were making an arrest of a possible robbery suspect. cornell bernard is live in san francisco with details. cornell? >> reporter: bart taking this situation very seriously tonight. it's also reviewing body-worn cameras by officers. witnesses say the arrest of this man was over the top. this was the scene tourist pamela martinez captured on her cell phone friday. a man being arrested inside the bart station. >> it was brutal scene, and it -- my legs were shaking. >> the police were arresting a 22-year-old robbery suspect inside the station. dozens of witnesses watched. some say officers went too far. >> one of the policeman had his knee on the kid's back, and it looked like he was going to break it. and one guy yelled, please just get your leg off his back. you're going to break it.

>> bart officials believed the suspect was armed but a gun was not found. officials said the man resisted arrest and may have kit and spit on officers. the video shows an officer punching the suspect. >> that's excessive force. >> the activist believes the man was racially profiled. >> everything coming forward of people profiled by the police, that bart police thought it was okay to behave that way. >> reporter: we showed the video to joseph marshal. >> the young man looked like he was hit while he was on the ground and subdued and handcuffed, and i don't see any reason for that. that looked to be a very unnecessary, very improper -- >> reporter: bart said the suspect was uncooperative with officers and physically resisted the detention. the man was arrested for resisting arrest and battery on a police officer. an investigation is now underway in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc7 news.

there's a community meeting in carmel for people out of their homes because of the fire burning nearby. it's a huge fire in monterey county. that grew slightly over night to more than 33,000 acres. 57 homes have been destroyed and it's 15% contained. let's check in now with meteorologist drew tuma. hot, dry conditions made things tough for firefighters. >> certainly and that smoke is moving into more populated areas. look at satellite. the smoke is moving to the north and east so impacting areas like gilroy and around san jose, and the smoke will continue to move to the north and east over the next 24 hours. that is certainly impacting air quality. especially in the santa clara valley and inland east bay where we'll have moderate air quality thanks to the moch from the fire. this will impact also the gilroy garlic festival. went be too hot but will be

as debate over climate change heats up in california a poll shows people are willing to pay more for electricity if it comes from renewable sources. the governor's policies are shifting away from fossil fuels. critics say clean energy created by solar and wind power is too expensive but a report suggests californians are willing to step up to the plate. >> we looked at different income groups and found that whether it's low income, medium or high income, the majority of those groups would be will tolling pay mowing for electricity to help climate change. >> the poll says effects are happening now but among republicansed a quarter say the effects will never happen. nintendo may be doing something completely different with the gaming console. the wii got gamers off the

future weather, hour-by-hour. first thing sunday morning, 5:00 in morning, calling for the spotty drizzle along the coast and a lot of fog around the bay. so how does this impact the runners tomorrow at the marathon in the morning, 5:00, we have fog and perhaps some coastal drizzle. by 7:00 the fog is still intact. by 9 come, peeks of sunshine and a west wind, 5 to 15 miles-per-hour and that's a crosswind. by 11:00 in the morning, the bay is going to be clear but still that fog will linger along the coast with temperatures in the 50s. so comfortable conditions for runners. good luck. future weather, 11:00 a.m. in the morning, clouds and fog pull back to the coast. sunshine away from the coast but will still have that hazy air. especially in the south bay. closer to the fire. so we'll have hazy skies, 86 morgan hill. 80 sunnyvale. 74 san mateo, 57 pacifica. san francisco tomorrow, 54. 58 daly city.
