good wednesday morning. i'm linzie janis. >> and i am nick watt. diane and kendis are off today. we begin with the divided gop. the rift wider this morning as donald trump turns his back on two of the country's most powerful republicans. >> trump is withholding support from house speaker paul ryan and senator john mccain as they run for re-election. another prominent republican is crossing party lines to vote for hillary clinton. and trump is getting an earful from president obama. we get the latest from abc's maggie rulli. >> reporter: donald trump battling with members of his own party this morning refusing to endorse speaker paul ryan and longtime senator john mccain in their upcoming republican primaries even though they're both supporting him telling fox news -- >> i've never been a big fan of john mccain. >> reporter: trump ignited a firestorm last year by criticizing mccain's capture in vietnam.

this latest dust-up comes at a time when his relationship with military families is already on the rocks after his public battle with the family of a muslim-american soldier who died fighting in iraq and a "new york times" report revealing his five military deferments, and then this happened. >> a man came up to me, and he handed me his purple heart. >> reporter: the retired lieutenant colonel giving trump his purple heart as a show of support. >> i said, man, that's like -- that's like big stuff. i always wanted to get the purple heart. this was much easier. >> reporter: many top republicans continue to distance themselves from their nominee and now former silicon valley executive and major gop fund-raiser meg whitman is taking her anti-trump stance one step further saying she's decided to support hillary clinton and going on to urge all republicans to reject donald trump this november. president obama also jumping into the fray. >> i think the republican nominee is unfit. i think i was right and mitt

romney and john mccain were wrong on certain policy issues, but i never thought that they couldn't do the job. >> reporter: and now the first republican in congress, retiring congressman richard hanna of new york, has said he'll vote for hillary clinton over donald trump come november. nick and linzie. >> thank you, maggie, there in washington for us. now to another moment from donald trump's rally in virginia. >> trump is known for humiliating and kicking out protesters who interrupt his speeches. this time he attempted to give his detractor a break but quickly changed his mind. >> don't worry about that baby. i love babies. i love babies. i hear that baby crying, i like it. i like it. the mom's running around like -- don't worry about it, you know. actually i was only kidding. you can get the baby out of here. that's all right. don't worry. i think she really believed me that i loved having a baby crying while i'm speaking.

that's okay. >> democratic vice presidential candidate tim kaine talked to supporters about trump's decision to eject the crying infant saying, quote, you wonder who the baby is. more fallout over the e-mail hack that rocked the democratic party. less than a week after debbie wasserman schultz stepped down as chair of the democratic national committee, three more top officials have resigned including the ceo, and a transition team is being appointed following the leak that apparently showed some party officials were trying to sabotage bernie sanders' campaign. turning overseas, a story breaking overnight. north korea's fourth reported missile launch in about two weeks. the missile fired this morning, flew more than 600 miles into the waters off north korea's east coast. a top north korean diplomat tells abc news the launch is a response to what he called the constant nuclear blackmail of the u.s. more launches are expected to

protest annual u.s. military exercises with south korean forces. top republicans are criticizing president obama over new reports that the u.s. sent iran $400 million in cash. that payment sent just as four americans were released in january. the state department saying the timing of the cash payment was coincidental, that the money was a partial settlement of a failed arms deal from the 1970s. but one republican accuses the president of paying for the release of four hostages, a violation of u.s. policy against paying ransom. in florida there are new developments in the battle against the zika virus. weather permitting, aerial spraying of a ten-square-mile area begins at daybreak to control mosquitoes. the area includes the wynwood neighborhood of miami where 14 cases of the zika virus have been found that weren't related to travel. but now a 15th case has popped

up outside wynwood. abc's dr. richard besser says it's inevitable that zika will spread. >> it's just a matter of time. there's so much travel back and forth between the u.s. and countries where zika is spreading wildly. you know, with the mosquito in those states, we are going to see more clusters like we're seeing in miami, and it does come down to people using personal protection, using that repellent. >> the cdc is earmarking $16 million to help babies born with microcephaly, the birth defect caused by the zika virus. it will be used to provide their families with information and to gather information. breaking news in dubai. an emirates plane from india burst into flames on the runway following what's described as a hard landing. a witness says the tail hit the runway. video and pictures on social media show dark smoke billowing from the plane. the country's government says all 275 people on board the boeing 777 were safely evacuated.

now to breaking news from the caribbean where tropical storm earl has killed at least six people in the dominican republic. jamaica and the cayman islands are now bracing for the storm, which is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall. mexico, belize and honduras are also expected to feel the effects of the storm, but there's little direct risk to the u.s. there could be more severe monsoon storms in the phoenix area today after flash floods made a mess of the afternoon commute. interstate 17 had to be closed in both directions because cars and trucks were stranded. power was knocked out to thousands, and fire crews were called to high water rescues. some areas of phoenix got 2 inches of rain in just an hour. the radar right now showing those storms lingering across the southwest. rain still falling in parts of arizona, as well as new mexico, utah and colorado. still ahead, a wildfire on the west coast exploding in size

overnight. plus, double murder. two teenagers found shot behind a grocery store. what investigators are revealing this morning. and surprise catch. fishermen reel in a 13-foot shark just yards from a popular beach. popular beach.

[ crowd cheering ] this is a wildfire now raging near california's famed wine country. at least 1,700 acres have burned so far near the border of napa and yolo counties. homes and a campground nearby have been evacuated. so far there's no containment of the fire and no word on what caused it. investigators in central california are trying to

determine what caused a horrific bus crash. that bus full of passengers slammed into a signpost, which nearly cut the bus in half. at least five people were killed. 18 others injured. some remain in serious condition. one survivor says the driver was trying to pass another vehicle, which wouldn't let him merge. the bus driver is hospitalized and has yet to be interviewed by investigators. the parents of a "star trek" actor are suing the maker of the car that killed him. anton yelchin was killed when his jeep grand cherokee rolled backward down his driveway six weeks ago. the vehicle had been recalled in april because of a faulty gearshifter. yelchin's parents say it was poorly designed and manufactured. the 27-year-old played chekov in the newly released "star trek beyond." a surprise move in the case against pacific gas and electric for a deadly pipeline explosion. eight people died in that explosion in san bruno, california, back in 2010.

large capacity guns. they were listening to the police radio frequency at the time, and during the arrest the men were talking about recent police killings and acting in a threatening manner. they are both being held without bail. and this from a suburb of oklahoma city, a suspect fighting with the police officer, even trying to reach the officer's gun. another officer joins in as the suspect's alleged accomplices flee in a car. a bystander gets involved helping wrestle the suspect to the ground. the suspect is now facing several charges in addition to being implicated in a credit card scam. some of san francisco's rich and famous may have a sinking feeling. the high-rise and high-end millennium tower is sinking and tilting. condos in the 58-story luxury skyscraper start at $1.6 million. even so, millennium tower has sunk 16 inches and tilted 2 since it opened in 2008. residents include nfl legend joe

montana. the catch of a lifetime caught on camera, three fishermen reeled in this massive shark off florida's sanibel island. they used a stingray as bait to snag the 13-foot hammerhead. but it was so strong it took them 30 minutes to get it to knee-deep water. after the thrilling experience, they cut the line and set the shark free. a wisconsin dog missing for a month has been found floating in a lake. four girls enjoying a summer day on a lake spotted moose, the yellow lab, in the water. he had run away from a pet sitter. the girls knew he was tiring, so they pulled him out and thanks to a microchip, moose was reunited with his owner. >> i just started crying and bawling, and we were in the car in seconds, and we were driving to go pick him up. >> no one knows where moose spent the last four weeks. the local humane society says this shows the importance of having an up-to-date microchip for your pets. some sports now.

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> welcome to wednesday, 4:30 club. i am natasha zouves. i am regular. it is wednesday, april 3. now, first, the weather and traffic. >> waking up with fog in petaluma, and rohnert park and up to santa rosa less than quarter-mile. be careful. here is san rafael it has not made it this far south yet. waking up to the sail conditions, mid-to-upper 50s and heading up to 61 at the coast and 74ant bay and 89 inland. today is a repeat yesterday. >> we will start off with a serious collision in the south bay. i will take you to the traffic map west of saratoga. highway mine is fully closed. this is a deadly crash. the investigation is ongoing. both direction much highway nine are fully blocked.

this is a sig-alert with no estimate on when it will be back open. that is north of redwood gulch. take 35 to 17 to get around that through los gatos. more updates on this through the morning. >> we will get to that now the santa clara crash that was mentioned, katie is there gathering new information at the scene. we do know a vehicle when off-road, what else do we know at this point? >> it looks live the vehicle did not break but sped off the road. you can see the tow truck is on the scene. firefighters and c.h.p. have managed to pull the vehicle back on to the roadway. it is mangled. it is no surprise there has been a fatality here, a 19-year-old woman was declared dead on the scene, a 15-year-old woman was taken to valley medical center with life threatening injuries. c.h.p. said they are still looking for the 29-year-old

driver. firefighters did an extensive search of the area think the driver was thrown from the vehicle but they have not located the man. he may have fled. the collision happened at 1:15. highway nine is a mile north of redwood gulch. the road is closed in both directions. it is not clear when the roadway will on. they are in the process of backing up the tow truck so they will be getting that cleared. the coroner is on scene. they have removed the body from the vehicle so these are all steps to take before the roadway can reopen. we will touch base with c.h.p. investigators and get you a better estimate on what time the road will reopen. >> breaking news a plane with 300 people on board make as crash landing at dubai's
