they've asked for more information about leak repairs and details. the judge held a hearing this afternoon and another for tomorrow morning. the jury is trying to decide if the company should be held criminally responsible for violating safety rules in connection with the 2010 explosion. the blast killed eight people, destroying 38 homes. the man at the center of an excessive force investigation involving bart police officers made a court appearance today. the 22-year-old michael smith pleaded not guilty to charges of resisting arrest and battery. video on facebook shows officers punching smith in the head while he was restrained at embarcadero bart station on friday. bart is now investigating the arrest.

breaking news in london. one person has been killed and six wounded in a knife attack in a popular tourist area in russells square in central london. police say they're investigating this as a possible terrorist attack. we're working the story and 'll keep you updated. a registered sex offender is in trouble after police say he took advantage of a 15-year-old girl he was tutoring. abc7 news reporter chris nguyen looked into the suspect's criminal history. >> police want you to take a look at 51-year-old thomas reeves of san jose. he's also a registered sex offender. he was charged with 14 counts of felony child molestation. >> our 290 team which is our megan's law team monitor registrants and this came across the death. >> police say reeves had sex with a 15-year-old girl between october, 2015 and april, this year, while also serving as the

victim's english tutor. this isn't the suspect's first brush with the law. in 2002, he was arrested in sacramento in a sting operation after police say he tried to have sex with a 12-year-old girl. he was an elementary schoolteacher in oakland at the time of the arrest. he would be sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of molesting two under aged girls in the east bay. he began offering his services as a language tutor though likely wasn't supposed to have contact with minors. >> we're putting this information out if someone recognizes him as someone they had dealings with or maybe he was out there soliciting services, as a tutor, then, again, we'd want to have those people contact the san jose police department sexual assault unit. >> police say reeves was not affiliated with a local learning center or school. they aren't sure if the victim's parents did a background check but tell us the suspect did provide the family with his real name.

he's due back in court in three weeks. chris nguyen, abc7 news. authorities identified an 18-year-old woman who died after a car went over a cliff near saratoga. she died when the nissan altima she was a passenger in veered off the road. the driver ran way from the crash site. investigators have revised their accounts of a number of people killed in a deadly bus accident yesterday from 5 to 4. and for the first time, we're hearing from one of those injured survivors. she suffered only minor injuries. she says she keeps having flash backs of the horrific scene. >> i just started to pray and all i can do is pray. i smelled gas. i thought we're going to burn.

>> a closer look at the contract indicates both sheri an james signed up for three-year terms and 24 hour fitness could raise rates later. but both say the rep told them orally the agreement would be in place for life. this petition was started by a woman who says 24-hour fitness raised fees from what she thought was a guaranteed contract. many say the same thing happened to them. the number of people who signed a petition concerns the district attorney's office. an investigator told us that they need to read the fine print.
