live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this ask "abc7 news." >> it's just awful. >> neighbors in pacifica say it didn't have to happen. tonight, a man from their neighborhood is accused of several rape charges and police say there are more suspects and victims. good evening. i'm chris nguyen in for eric thomas. we begin with new details on an expanding rape case in pacifica. >> reporter: the suspect is accused of drugging all the victims before raping them. now investigators believe he invited others to participate in the rapes, which the suspect allegedly videotaped, as well. police arrested joseph kourtney july 28th at his home. this is why they believe most of the victims were drugged, raped while unconscious and videotaped.

no one answered the door, but neighbors say he lives here with his mother, sister, and 3-year-old niece. >> we suspected it for a long time. >> reporter: those in this neighborhood say something illegal was happening here for years. they called the police. they suspected drugs were involved, and no no one is surprised but any of it. >> this could have been stopped a long time ago, and it's just awful. everything that's going on. >> i think it's wrong. there should be nobody like this in the neighborhood. my children, i got grandchildren, and they're small. >> reporter: he's also charged with possessing child porn. he's accused of drugging women with ghb before raping them. his attorney insists he's innocent. >> these allegation are from people that were engaging in

juveniles. everyone under 18 years old, eight people ingested an unknown substance of some kind. at the fire department around 10:30 tonight, summoned seven ambulances here. 18th street is closed between valencia and guerrero right now. it could be a drug, a poison, food, we have no w0rd on what prompted this emergency callout. the ambulances are still here at the scene. we understand some of the patients may be young children. so, again, an emergency of some kind. several children, teenagers, all under 18, ingesting some kind of a substance that made them ill or caused problems. reporting live, i'm leslie brinkley, "abc7 news." we have more breaking news in san francisco where one person died in a shooting a short time ago at aquatic part.

the investigation is just getting under way. it's unclear at this point what led up to the shooting or if police had made any arrests. >> breaking news out of san jose, police are investigating the report of a stabbing of one person near pepper mint drive at around 9:30 p.m. police have not released any other details. we are working to confirm the extent of that victim's injuries. stay on top of these stories with the abc 7 news app. download it for free. federal investigators are headed to san joaquin county where a skydiver and instructor died this morning. deputies found their bodies near lodi. they were doing a tandem jump and the parachutes didn't open. >> both are male, and both are adults, early 20s. >> reporter: the coroner is

calling the deaths accidental. they jumped with the sky dive lodi parachute center. the school has a history of deadly jumps. back in february, a man died after his parachute malfunctioned, which caused him to crash into a wall. he was an experienced skydiver. a sky diving legend was killed in another accident in 2009. robbie bigley got his parachute tangled up during a jump. two people died in that accident. the stockton record reports there have been 13 deaths connected to the sky diving school dating back to 2007. california could become the first state to formalize a controversial traffic maneuver performed by motorcyclists. it's called lane splitting. overall data shows motorcycle crashes are on the rise. at least two people have died in such incidents in the last few days in the bay area, including a motorcycle rider hit and killed thursday while lane

splitting in palo alto. the state legislature passed a bill calling on the chp to establish guidelines like safe speed limits to drive between cars. >> it's not legal or illegal. it's sort of a gray area. >> this helps people learn the right way to do it. >> reporter: the bill now goes to governor jerry brown for his signature. new at 11:00, an iconic restaurant in san jose is being sued over people with access to disabilities. "abc7 news" was there on stevens creek boulevard, which just moved its handicap parking stas closer to the entrance. it was built in 1966, long before laws were passed to protect the disabled. the owners fear too much remodeling could hurt the building and the business. >> we are willing to do whatever we can, but we don't want to destroy the charm of this restaurant, you know, and destroy our building.

>> "abc7 news" has reported on the attorney behind this lawsuit before. scott johnson has filed thousands of similar cases throughout california. his opponents suggests his lawsuits are about making money. johnson did not return our calls. san francisco police say crime is going down this year at the music festival. "abc7 news" was at golden gate park as 70,000 music lovers packed inside. police caught some people sneaking in. they cited 27 people, two were arrested. there was one report of sexual battery. officers tell us robberies and purse snatchings are down, which could be because of the electronic bracelets used in place of cash. both fans aren't worried about crime. >> what more could you ask for? we got good people, great music, great food, beer, wine. hey, i love it here.

today. some areas inland will top out at about 90 degrees. an update now on two major wildfires burning in california. some people are being led back into their homes after being forced out by this fire in monterey county. it's beened more than 55,000 acres, nearly 87 square miles and is 40% contained. a total of 57 homes have been destroyed, it started on july 22 as an illegal campfire. and this fire is 35% contained. yesterday, cal fire tweeted a warning, telling people not to fly drones near a fire. it causes a safety problem for air operations. this fire began four days ago, burning close to highway 128. in the north bay, the red cross is helping two families after a fire destroyed an

angeles. tonight, fans are mourning the loss of a musician who kept dixie land swinging. many say that his unmistakable sound helped to found the cultural heritage. he was 86 years old. scary lucy no more. a new statue is now on display. hundreds of fans gathered tooth at lucille ball memorial park as the tarp was removed. ball was born there and the new statue was unveiled on her birthday. the mayor gives it two thumbs up. >> it's beautiful. we couldn't ask for anything better to represent the village. >> the unflattering version was banished through a facebook campaign. but the previous statue will be given another spot in the park.

"abc7 news" was in san mateo. this event gives school supplies to deserving children, all donated by the community. a 7-year-old boy in utah is being called a hero for saving a boy from drowning. a 2-year-old boy had wandered away from his family. he spotted the boy falling into a pool. no one else was around. the gate was locked, so ceasar ran to the lobby to another entrance. >> so i ran over there. >> when you pulled him out, what did you do next is >> i ran and told the office. >> emergency crews say the toddler will make a full recovery. mike shumann is off tonight. rick has a look at sports. coming up in sports, as he goes into the pro football hall of fame, we remember the late

steven strasburg was trying to become the first pitcher in the majors to win 16 games, but the giants handed him just his second loss of the year. dusty baker has his team in first place in the n.l. east. hunter pence fouls this ball off the plate and it hits him on the side of the face and left a huge bruise, but he stayed in the contest. pence did wind up striking out. matt cain outpitched strasburg. in the third, he gets jayson werth to ground into the double play.

he pitched five scoreless, four strikeouts, including bryce harper twice. the giants broke through in the fourth after this triple. buster posey brings him home. and then strasburg walks joe panik. that will force home posey and it's 2-0 san francisco. the giants scored in the fifth after another nunez triple. this is going to fall for a double and nunez will score. san francisco wins 7-1. strasburg lasted just 4 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the year. the pro football hall of fame today welcomed former raiders quarterback ken stabler and the former 49ers owner. after being presented by a video, his bust was revealed by his two grandsons. he was the league mvp in 1974 and won a super bowl with oakland in 1977.

debartelo revealed his bust with his daughter, lisa. he shared this story about his good friend and head coach, the late bill walsh. >> i wish bill walsh could be here today. i miss him every single day. at the very end, i was with him at stanford hospital. it meant so much to have those last few hours together laughing and sharing old memories. he told me that even though he couldn't be there to see it, that he believed i would make it to this hall one day. about a week after i was selected as part of the class of 2016, i received a package in the mail from bill's son, greg. it was a small 49ers helmet with bill's autograph and a note bill read that said, i knew it was just a matter of time.
