♪ good afternoon. i'm larry beil. >> and i'm ama daetz. two people are dead and a third is in critical condition after a shooting and car fire in east oakland. it happened overnight on empire road. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live at police headquarters with the story. laura. >> reporter: police are releasing very few details only there was a double murder overnight in east oakland. they are not saying anything at this point about what happened before or after. >> so there were several shots, like in a row. one, two, three, four -- >> she didn't want her face shown but this resident heard the shots first and then saw a man running past her window.

>> and then a man came running down the middle of the street and he was dressed in clothing and on fire and the back of his head, the back of his clothing was on fire. >> reporter: and then there was this -- a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames with two victims inside. both pronounced dead at the scene. the third man, the one scene wounded and burning from the truck is live and in critical condition at an area hospital. >> obviously things around here, everybody knows how the city could be, the violence in the city is just -- it is paramount, it is overboard and we're all tired of it. >> reporter: the police won't say what led to the shooting and fire. we observed this marked as evidence about 20 yards from where the gutted truck was parked. a black stretch limousine and gas cap open with four red plastic gas cans lined up next to it. investigators won't confirm whether the fatal shooting and fire were related to what is appearing to be an effort to

siphon gas from the limo seen -- limousine. abc 7 news. sky 7 hd was over this home early today. a man was booked in custody this morning for the murder of his wife linda marie and her body was found yesterday. they are both 69 and live at a home on jail run lane and bail is set at a million dollars. a san jose family had quite a wake-up truck, a stolen pickup truck crashed into a home on rowley drive and prompted a shelter in place for the neighborhood. matt caller has the story. >> reporter: you think a pickup truck was the most dangerous thing to happen on the this road in piedmont. but it wasn't. here this. >> hear this huge volume of gas coming up and it is filled full of gas so we said let's get out

of the house quick and that is what we did ]. the homeowner didn't want to be on camera. he was the first to find the gas line was severed. they evacuated three homes and had another nearby residents shelter in place. >> gas and electricity makes me nervous but it is something that we train on and get familiar with but ultimately you don't know exactly where it has had an opportunity to get to. >> it took pg&e crews about an hour and 45 minutes to cap the leak. at that time, everyone was let back in their homes. as for the driver of the pickup -- he didn't stick around to talk with police. >> he kind of split. i couldn't catch up with him here. and then the police informed me the car was stolen or the truck was stolen. >> reporter: the homeowner has insurance. the biggest issue facing his family, getting that wall fixed and getting the gas turned back on. in san jose, matt keller, abc 7

news. sky 7 hd was above san leandro after this big rig jackknifed on 880. traffic called slowly after it hit the center divide near davis street at 11:45 this morning. as you could see, some debris landed on the southbound side of the freeway and tow truck crews had all lanes clear 45 minutes later. >> two oakland police officers were hurt when the cruiser was hit on patrol this morning at around 3:30 a.m. on 14th avenue and foothill boulevard. two officers and the driver of the other car were taken to the hospital for treatment and all have since been released. police are look for a tourist from china missing since late last month. the 19-year-old was last seen by his roommate at the best western hotel in beneesha on july 28th. police don't believe foul play was involved. the tour group he was part of left the united states on july 30th. police say the missing man speaks very little to no

about three dozen people were ordered out of homes. they are in the fire zone. this is burning in a remote area of the forest. north of the city of san bernardino. and that fire is only about 5% contained right now. in the north bay, firefighters are making progress on the so-called cold fire burning near the napa and yo lo county line. it charred 5700 acres and is now 70% contained. the cause is still under investigation. more than a thousand firefighters have been assigned to the blaze which tarted last tuesday. and there is good news in monterey county where the soberanes fire is now in the third week. evacuation orders have been lifted for the pallo colorado and princess camp areas. some residents are being allowed back into homes but being warned they may be asked to leave again. 57 homes have been destroyed. about 410 structures are still threatened. that fire has burned more than 60,000 acres. it is more than 94 square miles an the fire still 45% contained so they have a ways to go and

they blame an illegal campfire for starting the massive blame. the campers have not been found. [ chanting ] striking court workers spent the fourth day on the picket lines in san jose. they are waiting to hear back from the court system on the latest proposal. the union accused the county of spending too much to build a new courthouse. >> they have a $110 million deficit they are putting on the backs of the employees and the public by creating less services for the public and long lines, we just -- reduced hours. >> some business is still getting done at the court. a big part of the dispute centers on pay. court officials claim they can't afford the raises workers are demanding and workers are saying they need to work additional jobs to make ends meet. >> more mosquito fogging is scheduled in the south bay. we have a look at the san jose neighborhood affected.

fogging starts at 11:00 p.m. and will last for several hours and residents received notices on their doors about the fogging because of concerns over the west nile virus. crews have finished the massive clean-up at golden gate park after this weekend's successful outsidelands festival. some of the fun people had at the fields. this is how it looked this morning. clean-up crews didn't waste any time making sure it got back to normal. the megaconcert was mostly peaceful, unlike some previous years. we tried to call delta and they said we would have a three hour hold. >> and delta still trying to get back on track after a computer glitch grounded hundreds of flights. the simulated training underway in the south bay, how it could help officers deescalate situations before it is too late. and a birthday like no other. for a young boy with autism who

said all he wanted for his birthday was just some friends. and checking our traffic on this monday in san francisco, looking at the skyway, it is slow moving in both directions on the left-hand side, trying to get on to the lower deck of the bridge and on the east side heading toward the peninsula and moving

a talk about a nightmare for airline travelers. delta suffered a massive computer system outage grounding

flighting worldwide. >> the problem has been fixed but now you have thousands of passengers all over the place left playing catch-up. 450 flights were canceled. >> only a handful here in the bay area were impacted. all were delays. no cancellations. elizabeth hur looks at what was behind the problem. >> reporter: delta flights are resuming, but frustration still mounting for travelers from around the world, from new york to d.c., chicago, germany and london, take a look at these long lines at airports and the stranded passengers blowing up social media and venting and wondering what was going on. >> no indications. i tried to call delta and they told me i had a three-hour hold. >> i asked them what time does the flight start boarding and he told me to get in check because they have some problem with the system. they think the plane leaves at 8:00 but they couldn't tell me what time. >> according to delta, a global computer outage at 2:30 this

morning meant every flight not already in the air could not take off. a passenger in sacramento sharing with abc news how the pilot explained the situation. >> back in our operations control center in atlanta, a huge room, the center of the whole operation, now they're computers are down and if you try to get rebooked and call dime desk, it looks like everybody is in the same boat. >> and just before 9:00 a.m. the computer system came back online. but the damage already done. >> at this time, departmenta is not saying exactly what caused their system to go down but they are waiving fees for passengers who want to reschedule flights through friday. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. passengers aboard a grounded delta flight from hawaii to l.a., they were treated to surprise pizza late sunday night. sean carson from new york tweeted a picture of the ground support staff at kona international airport handing

out pizza to passengers waiting on board for more than two hours. passengers say the pilot bought the pizza. >> well southwest airlines flight attendants walked picket lines at nine airports nationwide, including oakland international. sky 7 hd was overhead today as the flight attendants took part in informational pickets in front of terminal two. they are locked in an ongoing labor dispute with the airline. they claim working conditions are deterioratindeteriorating. in a statement it said we continue to make progress in our discussions at the contract negotiating table and we look forward to continuing that progress in our ongoing negotiations later this week. walmart will buy the delivery service note as jet.com for $3 billion in wash. the e-commerce site is a rival to amazon. analysts see the move as a way for walmart to reinvigorate growth of online shopping business which has slowed in

recent quarters and position walmart to better compete with amazon. it specialized in bulk orders. for the first time, the san jose police department opened doors to media today to show how its training officers in deescalation opss instead -- options instead of using deadly force. and david is live at the police headquarters with an in side look. david? >> reporter: it is not easy. you know, the proliferation of body cams and cell phone cameras have put pressure on the police officers. deadly force could cause a tremendous outcry. but behind the scenes, there is a tremendous effort going into teaching deescalation tactics. every recruit goes through it. so does sworn officers on an annual basis. it is called force option simulator training. >> settle down. let me see your hands. show me your hands.

>> reporter: the goal is to prevent the use of deadly force by attempting to deescalate a confrontation between a person and an officer. >> they might have time to create distance and start thinking about whether they could deescalate the situation. >> reporter: part of the training is done in a classroom. jason dwyer invited media to go over case law and department policy and watch videos, including an incident you may recall seeing of a uc davis officer pepper spraying some which was criticized as deadly force. officers need to make critical decisions under pressure and stress. >> they are thinking about giving some distance and utilizing obstacles between themselves and the suspect and talking to them and minimalizing the reliance on force. >> and they strapped it around my waist and put me in the simulator who suddenly pulled

out a gun. >> what did you do when you saw that? >> the chief hopes they will see that they do not want to use force. >> it is equally important for the community to understand what our officers go in day in and day out and that is the transparency and understanding each other building that trust. >> david louie, abc 7 news. a san francisco police led a fundraising campaign to buy school supplies for underserved children. sergeant matt freedman found out many didn't have proper supplies. in may he started raising money to help them out. the sergeant raised $3,000, good for hundreds of backpacks. the mayor ed lee also chipped in and he was at the housing complex to help hand out the backpacks. there was even enough money for a ping pong table for the community center. the school year begins next monday in san francisco. >> great job by sergeant

and this is the forecast iteration starting at 5:00 this afternoon, not much coastal fog will develop will be mainly to the south and at 5:00 a.m., the day gets off to a mostly sunny start. and by 4:00 p.m. it is still sunny, coast to inland. the high temperature trend over the next few days, pretty warm. warmer day tomorrow with highs in the low 90s. a slight different temperature occur on wednesday but only by just a couple of degrees and that pattern remains steady through thursday before we get warmer weather toward the end of the week. highs in the south bay tomorrow range from 79 at santa clara to 81 at san jose and 85 at morgan hill. on the peninsula, 72 san mateo. and 78 in mountain view. 62 to 64 degrees tomorrow and high of 69 expected downtown san francisco tomorrow. up in the north bay, highs of 88 in santa rosa. 81 in san rafael. 83 in sonoma. berkeley 73. oakland 74. 76 at newark. 78 at fremont and the inland east bay with highs in the upper

aquatic park. leslie is live with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: the problem is there are no surveillance cameras at all on these national park grounds here along the water front. you add to that no apparent motive and you could understand why investigators are frustrated as they try to solve this murder. this is where 20-year-old calvin reilly was gunned down in san francisco's aquatic park on saturday night between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. and ahe played pokemon go with friends. he was shot in the back. the shooter ran away. nothing was stolen. u.s. park police are heading up the investigation but they -- they have little to go on. >> we don't have any cameras on the park. had it been on a city street a few blocks up, it might have been a different story. >> but here you've got little to work with right now? >> correct. >> reporter: police are desperate for photos or video

the public could share with them from saturday night. a car or person in the background of the shots could provide clues. calvin reilly just graduated from serra high school a year ago. it is a tight-knit all boys catholic high school and they are working with the family to plan a memorial this week. >> calvin was a lovely young man and loved by students and teachers and a solid student. it is hard to wrap your brain around it. people are struggling to make sense of it. >> a cal reilly funeral fund is het up and it is leaving many in disbelief on someone who was relaxing in san francisco lost their life for no apparent reason. i'm leslie brinkley. abc 7 news. >> it is so sad and hard to understand. and a go fund me page has been set up to pay for the funeral. it is has skeded the $40,000 goal and they are up to $46,000.

belts and safety knitting. when the ride opened, sliders had to be 14 years old. that has since changed. >> the question is, is the ride is safe. if there are changes that need to be made. i'm sure this park will be looking closely at that. >> reporter: and we are learning the park has decided to keep the ride closed indefinitely pending a full investigation. elizabeth hur, abc 7 news. new york. the pilot of a hot air balloon that crashed in texas last week didn't see the power lines ahead of him. according to cnn, the pilot was trying to descend in a break in the clouds south of austin and believed to have struck a set of power lines setting the balloon on fire and the crash killed all 16 people on board making it the deadliest hot air balloon crash in history. the emperor of japan may want to step down because of his age. in a rare video message to the public, the emperor is not sure whether he could perform his

lot, it has all of the signs of a thriving business, a golf business based on the license plates and frames. but all is not well at the roddy ranch golf club in antioch as it enters the end days. >> it is sad. i get emotional. >> mark davis came from san jose for one last round. last week the course announced it is closing because it could not afford the $600,000 a year water bill. the one lush fairways now have almost as much dirt as grass. not an ideal playing surface. mark of touchstone golf will be handling the lock-up. >> i think we would just say where the expense associated with irrigating the golf course is too much for it to be financially feasible as a business moving forward. >> reporter: the course opened 16 years ago on a ranch land owned by former cowboy champion jack roddy who spoke with us off camera today. he is disappointed, especially for 30 employees who must look for work and among them
