bruno. >> a jury just delivered it's verdict. lyanne? >> it's important to mention no one was named in the suit. these were criminal charges, only the company was named. pg and e was found guilty of six of the 12 charges. the jury deliberated two weeks after five and a half weeks of testimony, found guilty of not testing the pipelines and not keeping good records. here is what the city attorney had to say. >> this verdict should send a message to those pipeline operators they need to follow the law and make sure that when they operate the pipelines they do so in a safe manner. >> reporter: the u.s. attorney said pg and e had chosen profits over safety. the explosion killed eight

facing attempted arsons charges. police believe the explosion and a was discovered during a search of a home. in nine months there have been 36 freeway shootings. sources tell the i-team the fbi task force arrested 20 suspected gang members in an operation last week. some of them may be responsible for highway shootings and crimes involving drugs, guns prostitution and attempted murder, details will be announced tomorrow. the operation began last year with an investigation by police into increased gang violence in contra costa county last month. police became.

an oakland police officer is recovering after being run over by a car this afternoon. other officers chased the driver until it crashed into a cement truck at 98th avenue and railroad avenue. five women, from 3 to 32 were inside of the car. i should say five females, some were children. they've been taken to the hospital. the suspect vehicle reported stolen from oakland. police say the injured officer is going to be okay. this afternoon a woman was shot and killed in a home near the eastmont town center. sky 7 was over the scene. police say they found the victim, dead, a killing prompted a large police response. officers in fact are still on the scene. it has been nearly three months since an oakland police department scandal came to light. the accusations were stunning. officers accused of having sex with a possibly under aged girl and separate allegations of

inappropriate texts. today, protestors demand to know why charges haven't been filed. >> reporter: this is the antipolice terror project in the district attorney's office today, allegations of sexual misconduct within the oakland police department involving celeste came to light. she admitted to having sex with police officers, whoun later committed suicide. >> you are committed to prosecuting any cops deemed raping this child. >> yes. >> we have to to have evidence to be able to bring the case to court. >> the mayor made this vow, regarding the oakland police department. >> to root out what is clearly a toxic, macho culture. >> she said the behavior included racist texts.

>> they are wholly inappropriate and not acceptable from anyone who wears the badge. >> reporter: an e-mail statement says as a result of the investigation, the city intends to suspend two officers for violating city and departmental policy. the antipolice terror project told o'malley they'll be back to check on progress into allegations involving celeste. a multi car accident blocked all lanes of the highway ted, a car carrier was involved in the accident. there are no reports of injuries. abc7 news learned officials from daily city are considering traffic controls on a crosswalk where a young girl was injured in a traffic accident last week. vic lee is live at the crosswalk

on westmore avenue near skyline boulevard with the very. vic? >> reporter: daily city police tell us the girl who was hit is still fighting for her life. she's still in critical condition. we have been here most of the afternoon and the cars, i can tell, they come here in a fast clip and it's surprising there haven't been more accidents like the one that happened on wednesday. the car was turning right from skyline boulevard and struck the girl at the uncontrolled crosswalk, about 50 lines from skyline. >> it's a bad, bad intersection. they should do something about it. >> every pedestrian we spoke to told us that the crosswalk is dangerous, city councilman mike angona grew up in the neighborhood. >> my mother lives right down the street from there. she's 83 years old. we don't let her cross that street anymore. >> there have been several

collisions here in the past five years, this is the only pedestrian accident in that period. but it's enough to convince officials that something needs to be done. some say traffic controls like flashing lights or stop signs may in fact cause more accidents since the crosswalk is so close to skyline boulevard. >> rear end collisions with cars turning and being stacked up and people slamming into them. >> and city manager patricia martel suggests restricting car traffic with a crosswalk new. >> we think a possible solution that would work better actually to limit the vehicle movements by installing an island, constructing an island there. >> the crosswalk would be then eliminated and pedestrians directed to the safer controlled crosswalk at the end of the block or signalled intersection at westmore and sky line. the plan still needs to be approved by city council. vic lee, abc7 news.

a major shake up today at uc davis, embattled chancellor resigned after scandal that's began with a pepper spraying of student protestors. maybe you saw the video. kristin zee is live. kristin? >> reporter: we learned today her boss asked her to resign back then, she refused until today at the conclusion of an investigation. the chancellor first came under fire five years ago when police officers used pepper spray on student protestors during the occupy movement. calls for her firing subsided but renewed when it came to light she spent taxpayer money to scrub search results to clean up the university's image. it was revealed she billed uc for nearly two #$00,000 in international travel, flying
