live from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. good morning, it is saturday august 13th, 5:00 on the dot. we're going to start with a look at the weather. >> we're looking at lots of fog not only mist and drizzle, but into the low clouds all of the way inland. you may need wipers. you see how gray it is out there. temperatures out there in the 50s. 60 in san jose. so that marine layer pushing down on the atmosphere, and we're looking at high pressure building above.

57 by the delta. and the visibility not great at half moon bay. just over a mile there and a half mile in santa rosa. your forecast calls for upper 40s. heading out the door. by noontime, low 60s. it will be warm through the weeke weekend. >> a 100 pound tree limb fell on a woman in san francisco and she suffered a serious headwound. we were over the scene in the city's north beach neighborhood shortly after it fell on her yesterday afternoon. >> as a city worker cut apart the massive tree branch, police officers collected the bags left

on the bench by the woman who was hit. >> it fell and hit her in the head. when we arrived she was in and out of consciousness. >> she was watching her two children on the playground. they were uninjured. a neighbor told me that she is horrified of the accident but not surprised. >> i think it is always just a matter, these branchs have been falling off. all it takes is a windy day for a branch to come laos. >> we noticed city workers taking measurements of the limb, it was 19 inches around. it has been six years since these trees were evaluated. >> would the drought have any effect on the tree? >> we don't think so. it has good moisture content and the wood is very healthy.

>> this is not the first time a branch injured or killed someone in the city. as crews were cleaning up this accident scene, they noticed another broken branch on the same tree. so they called in a cherry picker to cut it down. now to the wild fire that raced through the santa clara county hills yesterday. crews rushed to respond to the flames. it started in a remote part of santa clara county. it burned 25 acres and is 25% contained. >> you can see the thick smock

energized lines in and around the firefighters. >> they had to deenergize a line for safety. pg&e was restored to all customers in an hour and a half. firefighters are making progress on the sopranos fire. it burned more than 70,000 acres and is now 60% contained. it started three weeks ago caused by an illegal wild fire. >> and the man blamed for last year's valley fire say they say a suspicious fire just before the flames broke out. john flynn much has filed papers

demanding they turn over papers. they destroyed nearly 1300 homes and burned 76,000 acres. get alerts as they happen. police in fair felt announced the arrest of a man. they say they arrived to investigate his suspicious behavior. they put him in ankle restraints and to the county jail. inside the jail he got involved n a struggle with jail staff and had what police called an unknown i type on medical emergency. he went to the hospital where he

died. a passenger in this jeep grand cherokee hit someone. the jeep has tipted windows and chrome wheels and the first number of it's license plate is 7. a millionaire tech mogul will appeal a charge. he was sentenced to a year in county jail. the founder was once labelled america's most eligible bachelor. he pled guilty to beating his girlfriend three years ago.

mateo high school district has priority. happening today, time to limber up if you want to audition for a spot on the warrior's dance team this coming season. tryouts are on mitchell drive. >> these are scenes from last year's auditions and there are two tryouts today. it takes place over several days and then the auditions will be once again back on the 18th. the 27th annual san jose jazz fest continues in the san jose. jazz fest runs through sunday and the first concert starts today at 11:00 a.m. >> up to 800 people are expected to brave the waters in the al ka traz sharkfest swim fest.

on the coast within a cool 52 degrees. we're not looking at that heat building all of the way to the shoreline. just looking once again at above normal temperatures inland. look at santa rosa and napa. 50 in petaluma. 62 in livermore. talking about the poor air quality. higher pressure building down on the surface bringing the east bay more to the surface and allowing for some issues. but overall, most of the smoke will be in monterey and into and around the diablo range. so from our south beach camera, looking nice with morning coastal drizzle and that mist out there closer to the shoreline. a spare the air alert and hot through next week. here is the way the fog footprint will look this

two members of the san francisco police department airport bureau were recognized yesterday for saving the life of a man suffering from a heart attack at s.f.o. the heart attack victim, 61-year-old terry bishop just arrived at s.f.o. when he collapsed at the airport. they used an airport a.e.d. and performed democracy pr on bishop and successfully resuscitated him. >> i'm just very, very fortunate that everything lined up just like it did. if it was anywhere else it would have been a funeral. >> we directly affected their lives forever. >> she credits her police

a billion dollar development has gotten the ok from the local commission. they want to add hotels, condos, an adventure center and water park. they say it is critical for being a top resort destination. this video from a conversation group shows hundreds of people who showed up to fight the development. they are expected to vote on the plan this fall. folsom lake is once again at disturbingly low water levels.

tens of thousands of gallons have been bumped from the lake. they are relating thousands of cubic feet every second for farmland. on july 1st, the lake was at 73% capacity. now it is just at 42%. a reservoir that supplies water to the silicon valley are at an even more dire state. the reservoir is only 10% full. the lowest it has been in just 27 years. on april 1st, the reservoir level peaked at 52%. water is being released to help california save endangered salmon, but not too much wet weather headed our way. >> yeah, here is a live look at

coastal drizzle, spare the air today and a hot pattern the next week. today it continues. we're looking at more smog. the smoke from some of the fires around the bay area really concentrated to the south and east bay looking at the worst air quality today. highs across the state are warm in the sierra nevada. so if you want to take advantage of that warmth, going to santa cruz, the warmest day today is 7 6. dropping a few degrees tomorrow. the ocean temperature still in the 50s. santa rosa, the warmest day 89, tomorrow slightly cooler at 82 and then we we cover a little bit. a little relief day today inland though, things are not going to change, warm all week long.
