11:00, pulled off the plane. two members of team usa are prevented from leaving the rio games. >> brazilian authorities say their story of a robbery doesn't add up. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. they were on a plane bound for the u.s. when they were escorted off by police for questioning. >> they were with fellow swimmers ryan lochte and jimmy fagan when they say they were robbed at gunpoint. but brazilian authorities started poking holes in that story. >> indicate me -- katie has more. >> in the last hour an attorney said they were ordered to stay in brazil until they testified about the robbery. the olympic committee said they were released with the understanding they would continue discussions. they were held by brazilian authorities at the airport in row crow for hours. in rio for hours.

it was an hour and a half ago they made their way through a crush of cameras. ryan lochte already back in the u.s. as this unfolded. >> tonight abc news has learned brazilian police are having whether ryan lochte lied to authorities about the night he and three fellow swimmers were allegedly mugged at gunpoint. he told nbc on sunday. >> he pulled out his gun and cocked it and put it to my forehead. i put my hands up and said whatever. >> lochte said they flashed badges and dressed as police officers took their money, but not their phone. a brazilian judge issued a warrant to have the rooms searched and passports confiscated on suspicion of providing a false report to police. they say the phones are critical and could determine where they were. lochte posted this snap chat

in a club. court documents reveal the swellers say they left the club at 4:00 a.m. heading out on a 40-minute ride to the olympic village. according to the documents at 4:35 the swimmers say they were robbed. before 7:00 a.m., the group re-entered the village as seen on the security village obtained by daily mail.com. the judge says the time line does not match with surveillance video and the judge wondering why the men seemed so unphased even jovial in these images if they were really robbed at gunpoint. only later did they provide a statement. but they say they were so drunk they cooperate give money about the perpetrators, the vehicles the criminal used or the license plate information. lochte admitted to misleading officials at first and denying any incident took place. lochte's lawyer said he gave statements to the state department and the fbi and says there is no question the robbery did occur.

contained so it will keep spreading. more than 82,000 people remain under evacuation. at least a dozen buildings have burned. we go now to the fire zone. >> this is nuts. fire on both sides of me. >> reporter: hundreds of firefighters are on the defensive fighting the massive and fast-moving blue cut fire on the ground and by air. >> this is a monster of a fire moving faster than any other fire i have seen in a longtime. >> the fire is showing no mercy on san bernadino county. two firefighters were injured and more than 82,000 residents forced to leave. officials telling everyone to follow their orders to get out. >> i think this is the worst i have ever seen. it is getting used to the idea of being homeless. >> reporter: even the main road leading evacuees to safety is engulfed in flames. triple digit temperatures and the fierce winds are adding

fuel to the fire. >> i can get the heat out and put it out and mitigate the smoke impacting the freeways. >> reporter: we do not know how many homes are structures have been damaged by this fire. there is a little good news though. the firefighters are telling us the fire is now at least 4% contained. abc news. >> let's continue our team coverage with sandhya patel and live doppler 7hd and a look at the fire line conditions. sandhya? >> right now you notice it is 78 degrees near the blue cut fire. the relative humidity has come up and the wind has tea creased creased -- has decreased. it was hot there and the temperature has dropped to 78 degrees. the satellite picture is picking up the smoke plume from that blue cut fire. notice how intense it was earlier this afternoon and this evening. red flag warnings are in effect until 9 sock. the vicinity is still dealing with the fire danger.

unfortunately it will not cool down immediately, but in a few days the temperatures will begin to drop. ama? >> thank you, sandhya. commuters heading home in the south bay got quite the sight. check this out. the flames were shooting from a train trestle. sky 7 shows you the black smoke billowing into the sky. firefighters contained the flames an hour after the fire broke out. the cause of the fire hasn't been determined. tonight fire victims living in lower lake are back home for the first time. the clayton fire broke out on saturday night. that's 90 miles north of san francisco. residents there have been out of their homes since then as the flames torched almost 4,000 acres as well as 175 homes, businesses and other buildings. cal fire lifted some evacuation orders. the fire is 50% contained. nay we are learning more -- we are learning more about the evidence against the man

they accuse of setting the fire. he had his back turned to the cameras after passing out in the hallway. he told the judge he was okay. the court documents show that it comes from eyewitnesses, surveillance camera and a high-tech tracking device. they say it links him to 17 different acts of arson and it is enough to establish probable cause. >> you get one shot at this. if you take your shot too soon you yep -- you jeprodize bringing somebody to justice. >> according to cal fire, five incidents but them at the scene of the arson at the time of ignition. a millbrae teacher is in jail after engaging in what police say was inappropriate behavior with a girl. she teaches at taylor middle school and that's where we find lilian kim live tonight. lilian? >> she is the drama and english teacher here, but they are not saying if the victim is or was a student.

the san mateo county sheriff's department released the booking photo of heather butts. prior to her arrest officers have been monitoring her staking out her home where she lives with her husband and two small children. she was charged with committing a lewd and lascivious act with a child and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a felony. the investigation began when police received a tip from a caller that butts was oocting inappropriately with a girl in the car. they later learned the two were having a relationship. >> i was like, whoa, i didn't expect it. >> testify knee was a student of his and her mother gave permission for her to talk to us. >> what is everybody saying? >> they are surprised. no one would suspect the teacher. >> as to what the district has said, the superintendent has not responded to our request for comment. abc7 news. >> stay here with us. abc7 news at 11:00 continues. the east bay man accused of

say a man scammed a church and then a 9-year-old member out of more than $100,000. >> yeah, right now ward caldwell is accused of conning at least three elderly women. abc7 news reporter is live in walnut creek where there may be more possible victims. katie? >> reporter: ama and dan, the church published the donation in their newsletter that further legit myselfed the man as a good guy and a wealthy man. but their next newsletter is going to be a warning to other potential victims. >> he would come most sundays. >> reporter: pastor roger reeber from grace presbyterian church trusted ward steven caldwell. >> his parents were part of the congregation 30 years or more ago. >> reporter: when caldwell showed up a year ago the pastor had no idea he was being set up for a scam. caldwell has a history of fraud. >> he has been to prison for this. he has a prison conviction out of boutte county.

>> reporter: caldwell offered to donate $150,000 to the church and wanted it publicized in the congregation's newsletter. jay he pulled a -- >> he pulled a fast one over the church. he gave them two checks. >> reporter: he asked the pastor to wait to cash the checks and meantime he convinced a 90-year-old church member to invest more than $170,000 with him. >> basically pretending to be this investor and then getting them to invest money with him. >> reporter: caldwell has several aliases bruce harmon, bruce goodrich and bruce la salle. >> perhaps it gave him a platform where he could find other people to take advantage of and i feel regret. >> reporter: victims include a woman caldwell met at a car wash and a widowed hairdresser and two others says the deputy d.a. he is asking any additional potential victims to contact his office. in walnut creek, abc7 news.

san francisco police hope you will take a good look at this couple captured on surveillance video tagging an apartment building. investigators believe they hit other nearby buildings and homes as well and they are suspected of scrawling offensive graffiti in the richmond district. mcgone -- mcdonalds is take fitness tracker out of the happy meals. they switched out the traditional toy into a step it fitness tracker. it was part of a promotional campaign for mcdonalds to promote a healthier image. it is time to check on our weather. we are halfway through week. >> we are indeed. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the forecast. >> and we are heading to the weekend. we have the fog along the coast and around the bay. right now the visibility is down to three miles in half moon bay. during the commute this is one thing you will need to watch

okay. you are out having a nice kayaking day and then you see this. this group in canada got a front row seat to an epic show. can you believe it? a playful humpback whale started breaching near british columbia. they were soaked too, but it appears the splashing was well worth it. talk about a photo op. that is up close and personal. >> certainly is. it is time to turn to sports and maybe not so great for our baseball team. >> they are not making as big of a splash as you might say. >> they were hoping they would stay in the closet as they would avoid being swept.
