live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, a father is charged with murdering his own baby daughter. tonight a south bay community is rallying around the girl's family. good evening and thank you for joining us. >> the 6-year-old died from the severe abuse she suffered in her brief life. >> we find abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington live with the details. >> they have set bail at $1 million. she was rushed to the hospital and taken off life support this morning. we did learn one piece of encouraging news in this tragic story. the baby's organs were donated. her life was cut short, but she is helping save another.

>> matthew thompson lives directly below the apartment where a 6 week old baby girl was repeatedly beaten by her own father. the doctors found she suffered a cracked skull and multiple broken bones and fractures. >> i heard the baby crying once in uh wheel and moving around. i never heard violence. >> it is sad a 6 week old baby girl all she knew was the brutality. >> neighbors say the 32-year-old lived with his girlfriend. his two older children often stay there as well. abc7 news has learned there is a record of child abuse. >> how can our system be such that somebody with previous child abuse convictions get custody of his children. >> he admitted to detectives to ripping her from a carseat and her head hit the handle. >> this is the worst scenario

that can happen in a domestic abuse case. >> they set up a go fund me site to cover costs. abc7 news. >> and there are resources if you are a parent or maybe you know one who needs help with child care. go to abc7news.com and click on this story for information. >> new at 11:00, police just released this sketch of a man punching a woman in the face for no reason apparently. the unprovoked attack happened in pacific heights across from lafayette park. the man broke the woman's nose in several places requiring her to have surgery. here is another look at that suspect. notice he has a moal on his upper right cheek. if you see him call police immediately. a sheriff deputy threatening to have his wife killed was fired.

the spokesman says he no longer works there. the bay area news group says he was arrested for domestic violence and violating 5 restraining order. a woman admitted having sex with police officers underage. >> san francisco police want your help identifying a opinion opinion -- person involved in a robbery at usf. two of them entered a different building and punched two students in the face and robbed them. surveillance video shows the suspects walking through a university building and one suffered a broken nose. tonight activists took to the streets to mark 18 months since san francisco police shot and killed a gaw tau 1111 immigrant. abc7 news reporter sergio is

in the newsroom with more details. sergio? >> when he was shot the former police chief has resigned under pressure over multiple police shootings. the district attorney still hasn't filed charges in this cause. a sidewalk mural marks where he was killed. the demonstrators say they will keep pressure on authorities to seek justice for lopez. >> we were waiting a year and a half for the d.a.'s decision insisting he charge them with murder. >> lopez was shot by two plained clothed officers after they say they used a kitchen knife to kill a rider and he lunged at them. the medical examiner's report seemed to contridict that. >> six shots in the back is unheard of. many, many, many years ago you don't do that to anybody. >> during this demonstration

they held a banner with 64 names and people who have been shot by san francisco police since 2000 and none of the officers involved have faced charges. they are so against bringing cases to the police. >> we have a person shot six times in the back. there is no question it was coming from the police officers. >> why isn't there a charge of negligent discharge. >> they are now calling on the attorney general camala harris. >> traffic is moving again tonight. that was the case in the middle of the commute home. look at this back up. all three northbound lanes were blocked. the driver was speeding. we first told you about tonight's accident and the commute mess with a push alert

with the abc7 news app. download the app for free and enable the push alerts as they happen. in southern california, the lid blew off a sulfur tank causing a leak in carson about 20 miles south of l.a. this video shows steam and not smoke rising of the you can see it there. the sulfur levels weren't harmful. this is the largest oil refinery on the west coast. no one was hurt. a judge ruled that california's strict knew vaccination law will remain in effect. it requires all school children to get vaccinated before attending class and it takes away perm -- personal belief exemptions. the family is seeking an injunction as it works its way through the courts. >> they want them to start screening for the zika virus as soon as possible. they made that announcement and the fda says sexual transmission may facilitate

the spread of zika even where those carrying the virus are not present. they are one of 11 states that must begin screenings in four weeks. that's because people travel to the zika affected countries. new at 11:00, there is a move on big ig ares -- big rigs across the country. >> it would limit how fast trucks could travel bayousing a device to cap the speed. not everyone likes the idea. >> cornell bernard is live on interstate 80 with details. cornell? >> reporter: ama and dan, speed limits are not enough when it comes to slowing trucks down on the highway. a new proposal would prevent drivers from going over the limit. if you are a truck driver you know the cliche time is money and that's all too real.

>> where are you? >> he has been driving for decades and he still feels the pressure to deliver the goods on time and plays it safe. jay i don't care -- >> i don't care if it is an hour late. >> the motorists see it. >> i see them in the fast lane. >> they drive as fast as the cars go. >> a proposal from the national highway traffic safety administration would impose a nationwide limit by using an electronic device to cap speeds in buses between 60 and 68 miles per hour. for now, older trucks would not be impacted. the hope is to reduce big rig collisions. some are deadly. he works for mutual express. they say regulating a truck's speed will save money and fuel, but they could drive up the cost to do business. >> when you are forced to slow down it is hard.

new at 11:00, a cousin of nba star dwyane wade was shot and killed in chicago while pushing a baby stroller. police say naki ar -- nakia was not the intended person. she was going to register her kids at school. the baby was not hurt. the tragedy comes a day after wade's mother sat on a panel about gun violence. wade expressed his grief saying, quote, another act of senseless gun violence.

four kids lost their mother for no reason. unreal. # enough is enough. police are questioning one of the gunmen. >> only on abc7 news, tonight we have video of a brawl in the middle of san francisco's financial district. it happened on tuesday as abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow said a man took out his cell phone to take pictures. >> when he jumped out he went to see what happened. >> i was curious. >> he was one of dozens of pool taking pictures and video and a woman was yelling at them. >> she said i should be more concerned with the feeling of the victims. >> one of the victims was a shoe shine man with a broken hip. >> as police responded another incident was just beginning. he said he officially walk -- he officially walked away and then returned. you can see a verbal argument. the man in the group pulls the

women back until one last sentence before turning away again. >> to get his [bleep] girlfriend out of my face. >> he punched him in the back of the head. >> at what time is it okay to attack someone for a photo. >> the woman was kicking him as they pinned him to the ground. when police arrived the person taking this video went downstairs. >> he said i have a video. oh my gosh, thank you. >> he took this picture of the three 350e78 -- people cuffed. they were cited for misdemeanor battery and released. he said he has the prescription sunglasses he was wearing fixed. >> somebody took a video which helped me, but the root of problem stemmed from somebody taking a photo of what happened. >> abc7 news. >> dan: target is holding a one-day sale to win back

will be impacted by smoke. here is a live look and as we look at a beautiful view of san francisco it is bouncing because it is breezy. really mild outside. mountain view 65 and half moon buy is 61 and from the sfo camera, normally you would see the marine layer stacked up, but it is starting to break up. it will fill back in overnight. low 60s santa rosa and napa and novato. fairly uniform temperatures. abc7 news at pier15 showing you that it is not solid at the coastline. widespread low clouds and we are looking at a mild pattern for the weekend. so inland east bay these are some of the spots that we would see hot weather in august. it is not this time around. look at these mild spots.

many of the inland east bay valleys are low to mid80s. livermore 83. enjoy the break from the heat. you save on your ac bill, and not only that you get the free air conditioning and it is easier to work outside. the temperatures under cloud cover. midto upper 50s. if you will be outside in the morning hours it is perfect weather for walking and running. 7:00 a.m. you notice how cloudy it is. napa to the east bay. concord, livermore, the valley area and down the peninsula to palo alto and the coastline. 10:00 a.m. the clouds pull away from the inland valleys, but not the bay and coast. and then most areas should be seeing some sunshine for your saturday. the highs will look like this, 84 in antioch and 74 in fremont and 70 in oakland and 65 san francisco. low 70s around places like san rafael and palo alto and 75 in santa rosa and 77 san jose.
