abedin and the clinton campaign. anthony weiner spent the last few years as a stay-at-home dad. before this he was a mocker, a new york democrat with a fiery zeal and a future. >> the gentleman will sit. the gentleman is correct in sitting! >> reporter: that is until he accidentally posted a lewd photograph on his public twitter feed one night. the congressman caught with his pants down. at first he claimed his account had been hacked. >> it was a hoax, someone sending a picture of a weiner on weiner's account. >> reporter: days later he came clean. >> i made terrible mistakes and am deeply sorry. i've exchanged explicit messages and photos with six women over the last three years. >> reporter: his house of cards crumbled fast. >> today i'm announcing my resignation from congress. her agenda focuses on early diagnosis and intervention. she plans to create a national initiative for suicide prevention. it's estimated nearly 10 million adults suffer from serious mental illness. it appears donald trump's former campaign manager isn't out of the fold. sources tell abc news trump and cory lewandowski speak almost every day. the relationship is now described as stronger than ever. lewandowski was fired with the gop can candidate lagging in the polls. he was then hired by cnn shortly afterwards as a political commentator. two tropical depressions in the southeast united states. neither has a name as of yet. one of them is trekking up the gulf of mexico and the other toward north carolina. both are expected to dump a lot of rain in florida. we have more from the outer banks. >> reporter: the florida keys already getting a taste of tropical depression nine. the system now heading toward the state's gulf coast. sandbagging stations open in

tampa, and orlando officials urging residents to have a week's worth of supplies ready. >> if they need additional supplies, now is the time. >> reporter: in north carolina residents and vacationers bracing for a separate system. the outer banks now under a tropical storm warning. jane gillette hitting this grocery store to stock up. >> well, we were wanting to get in the ocean. i guess that's not going to happen. >> reporter: red flags already warning beachgoers no swimming because of the rough surf. both storms are unnamed, but two weeks ago another unnamed storm wreaked havoc in louisiana. bringing 30 inches of rain in some places and killing 13 people. the biggest concern right now are those rip currents. you can see the waves picking up. lifeguards up and down the atlantic coast are warning people to be careful. linzie janis, abc news, north carolina. and hundreds of miles southeast of where she's standing there's a hurricane out

in the atlantic. but gaston is not a threat. tropical depression eight is heading straight toward the carolinas, probably getting there late this afternoon. depression nine is dropping quite a bit of rain on cuba and south florida. it will also become a storm and make a northeast turn between tallahassee and tampa, probably on thursday. the latest track there on those storms. there's also nasty weather in the pacific to tell you about with a hurricane watch for the big island of hawaii. hurricane madeline. that's a category-three storm. and hurricane lester, a more powerful category four, is further out and not an immediate threat to land. to chicago, it's been a particularly deadly month. there have been more than 400 people shot. at least 78 homicides making august the city's most violent month in almost 20 years. put another way, chicago has had more murders and shooting

victims this year than new york and los angeles combined. the hunt for three escaped prisoners in louisiana moves to the third time. michael elliot, walshea mitchel, and willie ethridge escaped. none of them is armed, but all are considered dangerous. in mississippi, hundreds gathered to mourn the death of two nuns murdered last week. they spent decades helping the poor. the man accused of killing them could face the death penalty. the district attorney says she'll consider the facts of the case and the wishes of the families before making a final decision. rodney sanders is facing several charges including two counts of capital murder. and the sister of a new york college student is speaking out about his murder. anthony nazi irwas stabbed to death during a brawl at cornell university over the weekend.

the 19-year-old was a sophomore at ithaca college. police have not revealed what started the fight, but there are details about what led to his death. >> his friend bumped a girl by accident, and he apologized. the both of them apologized. the both of them apologized. even my brother apologized, and he didn't bump the girl. and she said what the [ bleep ] apologizing for? you already bumped me. >> there's another victim who was stabbed but was treated and released from the hospital. the investigators say someone may have captured the murder on video. pope francis has his own facebook account. mark zuckerberg thought it appropriate to give him a drone. the facebook founder and his wife met with the pontiff at the vatican discussing how communication technology can help end poverty. now the drone wasn't a working aircraft, just a model of a solar powered drone. facebook hopes the real thing will help expand internet access in developing countries. it ended well for the little league world series champions.

this one looks like tropical storm warnings in place from cape lookout to oregon inlet. the storm that is dropping quite a bit of rain for south florida through cuba, that one has to become a tropical storm and then make a turn between tallahassee and tampa is where it's hitting right now. the timing for that is thursday. the pacific, hurricane madeline looks to affect hawaii, the southern and big island as it decreases in intensity. >> mother nature business sigh these days. in fact, in the west, a powerful storm system hammered colorado springs. there was flash flooding and road closures. some motorists were rescued from their cars. hardest hit was downtown colorado springs which received two to three inches in about an hour. they also detached snowplows to deal with as much as two feet of hail. incredible images there. a stunning tornado was spotted growing as it ran through farms at sunset. there were several other tornadoes in the area. none as dramatic as this one.

not much damage reported. there was also heavy rain and some hail. the white house says the u.s. has met president obama's goal of admitting 10,000 syrian refugees into the country. this family heading to san diego is among those resettling. donald trump criticized the program as a way for terrorists to enter the u.s. the u.s. will attempt to welcome 10,000 more refugees in the next fiscal year. a huge migrant rescue operation off the coast of libya. about 6,500 migrants were picked up. it's one of the biggest operations of its kind so far. the white house says president obama will meet with the president of turkey on sunday. it will be their first meeting since the attempted coup in turkey. they'll have a lot to discuss. the u.s. is asking turkey to focus on the battle with isis in syria and not on the kurds who are fighting there. and this follows clashes between the two groups over the weekend. we're learning new details about the ex-marine who killed
