times of the it happened about 8:30 at 38th and penniman avenue. it happened less than a mile away from where two men were shot and killed last night. and developing news from the north bay, we are getting our first look now at the youngsters killed on their way to school. a 9-year-old, dalila and 7-year-old cyra gonzalez died this morning when their mother lost control of the car she was driving and plunged into a river. it is the second such accident in the last week. abc7 news reporter is live in petaluma where the family members gathered to pay their respects. katie. >> family tells me the two little girls love to sing and dance. they gathered along the river along with complete strangers. community members that were saddened and shocked by the loss of life on the way to school. prayers along the petaluma river for two little girls.

amanda wolf heard alley -- allejandra out of the water this morning. >> the babies were stuck in the car and it was horrible. i tried to tell my daughter, ruby, not to look. i said don't look, don't look. >> hernandez just dropped the girl's father off nearby and was headed off. chp drifted into the center dirt median on petaluma boulevard and over corrected and then swerved off the roadway plunging down the six feet of water. the girls died despite heroic efforts. >> it is hauntingly similar to a crash in the russian river a week ago that killed two other girls. >> we plan to attend the funeral because we are parents

big island of hawaii. neighbors are already dealing with wet and windy weather. let's start with sandhya patel and live doppler 7. >> sandhya: let's lack at both of those systems. we have madeline that has egg whattenned quite a bit. that was weakened quite a bit. as we take you closer we are seeing the rain bands intensifying across the big island. it has been coming in for hours now and they are getting good rain. they have tropical storm warnings up through saturday evening for not just the big island but maui county as well. if you have personal investments in that area flooding is the biggest concern with madeline as heavy rains pound the area along with the high surf. the bigger problem is the surf. you notice madeline is passing south of the big island and will continue on that track.

thursday 2:00 p.m. hawaiian time, lester this upcoming friday will be a category 1. so much weaker than it is now. it is passing north of the hawaiian islands, but it will bring big surf with it. as you look at the atlantic, we have another system -- we have two systems. the depression is not a problem. the gulf of mexico will have a hurricane and it will pound the florida coastline. eventually working its way up across the southeastern united states. it is bringing them the storm surge and an isolated tornado is possible. we are into the peak of the hurricane season, so it is not unheard of to see all of this activity. dan and ama? >> dan: sandhya, thank you. a lot of people coming and going from hawaii. let's continue our team coverage with reporter lilian kim live at sfo with the impact on travelers tonight. lilian? >> reporter: whether they are going for a special event or family vacation people we talk to plan to stick it out and

they declared a state of emergency because of low policing staffing levels. a group of citizens prayed to keep the officers safe while they were being forced to work extra hours. >> people are sleeping in cars and rv's and working overtime. because they are overwhelmed. >> it is always a blessing to have the community's support and prayer. >> ama: san jose's pilgrim church organized the vigil. they prayed that san jose will find a way to hire more officers. >> dan: in san jose, police need the public's help in solving a well orchestrated crime. >> ama: a burglar or burglars got away with $10,000 of tools. the homeowners had a camera rolling. >> dan: katie is live at the san jose police department with the story and the pictures. katie? >> reporter: dan, ama, thanks to home surveillance video police have a clear image of a burglar and they hope someone will recognize him. an arrest may help the family sleep at night. >> this is the man san jose

police say burglarized a north san jose home. the homeowners don't want to be identified. but they talked us through what happened about 4:00 a.m. on june 7th as they and their two children slept. >> they broke this window and then they lift the door and then they sneak under the door. >> the man went through the garage and cut a lock on the side gate and then cut power to the house. from there he stole $10,000 worth of tools belonging to a contractor working on the house and a mountain bike belonging to the homeowner's 13-year-old son. the material losses are not the worst part. their 9-year-old daughter was traumatized. >> it took a couple days for my daughter to settle back to normal. she was scared to go into the garage after that and not to go in any rooms by herself. >> it has been a hard time for the family. >> i don't know what we will do. >> police say the man appears to be in his mid30s and 5-8 and about 180 pounds. if you recognize him call

time of year. you look at the entire month as we get ready to move into september and notice that there were only two days where san francisco was a little higher than average. for the rest of the month you are below where you needed to be this time of year as we saw one system after another and keeping our temperatures in check. as you look at the week ahead the average high is 87 degrees for livermore. you will hover below normal for a few days and then as we head into tuesday and wednesday, those temperatures will bounce back. it will get warmer and it will feel like summer again. notice this beautiful view of the fog over san francisco. shaky camera so it is breezy. 58 in san francisco. oakland and mountain vouleaux 60s. half moon bay it is 59 degrees. sfo camera is showing you what it looks like which is overcast and you may encounter delays because of the low
