gate bridge, 80 across the bay bridge is eight minutes. westbound 92, san mateo bridges only 13 minutes. >> back to our top story, the release of former stanford swimmer brock turner will happen any minute. >> we have been live streaming the jailhouse on our news app all this morning. our reporter was outside of the doors. matt? >> good morning, natasha zouves. we spoke with the sheriff smith and she was doing a walk through walking down the steps to get an idea of what brock turner will face when he walked out of the lobby expected in the next couple of hours. it could happen as early as now. the sheriff said that he will be doing paperwork and will be released with other inmates. he could walk down the steps with other inmates. no one will be able to meetism in the lobby.

the family members will not meet him there but have to wait until he gets to the street. then whatever transportation needs he has, whether he is in a car or a taxi or whatever he gets into, he will leave the area it has to happen on the streets. he will have to make the walk by himself. the sheriff smith had some things to say about the sentencing. >> you are not happy about the sentencing. >> no. anyoned charged with or convicted of rape ought to do time in state prison. [ inaudible ] >> the sheriff smith talking about legislation sit on the desk of the governor requiring prison time for people who are convicted of sexual assault. the big outcry over sentencing, sentenced to six months and only serving three months is expected to be release any time. it could be now or in the next couple of hours and we expect it by 9:00 a.m. this morning, but, around this time, at 5:00 a.m.,

here at santa clara county jail main trail this is the time that inmates start getting released after serving sentences so it could happen any time. we will bring it to you live. >> thank matt. the sheriff said he was convicted of we rape but the fact he is con victimmed of sexual assault and it sounds like the same thing but in this case it made a big difference in sentencing which is a debate happening. the other debate, about the judge, would gave him the sentence in the first place. >> so much happening in the last three months through are competing efforts debating his worthiness to be on the bench. amy hollyfield is toring the coverage at the jail. amy? >> there are some protesters here to protest the judge, three of them, and they blend in with the crowd so it is hard to spot them because of all of the reporters and the cameras on the courthouse steps. they not carrying signs or yelling but they here and they say they are upset there are not

more protesters although more are expected later this morning. protesters like this group, ultra violet will be leader circling the supreme court louse on the bicycles calling for the recall of the judge who sentenced brock turner. activists say that judge persky was too light on tinker they want him to be reof mood. the protesters here are disappointed there are not more people expressing themselves. >> i was hoping this would be more. we have been here since 11:00 and i have been here since after midnight and i was expecting more since though said he could come out by 12 and i expected month than three of us. >> judge persky has launch add campaign to keep his job on his witness saying i believe strongly in judicial independence i took an oath to uphold the constitution not to appease politicians or

ideologues. protesters we hear from 59,000 to 80,000 signatures i to get a measure on the ballot to recall the judge. they will start work on that in the spring. they want to get it on next november's ballot, 2017. >> thank you. amy hollyfield traveled to the turner family home in dayton, ohio, back in june and show also visited the community of oakland where turner grew up. many residents there were embarrassed with all of the attention of case bringing to the town. brock turners with arrested in jap of 2015 after sexually assaulting his victim. a jury phone him guilty a year later on march 30 of this year. the case became a national story in june when the victim wrote a powerful statement showing the effect of the salt on her. later that same month, judge persky handed down the controversial sentence sparking nationwide outrage and last week

as far as the walk down that is done alone by brock turner. we talked with the sheriff about the plans for this morning. here is what she said. >> right new we will not talk about the separation plan. we are well prepared for him walking out today. i don't think there is any definable net but this is a lost hate -- lot of hate. >> when he walks out he is required to register as sex offender where he lives in five working day and there is a place holder on the database. if he leaves california and goes back to ohio which he is planning, he has to register there of the the parole supervision will take place in ohio, as well, and we do not expect him to stay long in the bay area. there is no word if he will make a statement and we will monitor the situation and all of the hustle and bustle by the media was not him being released i think the sheriff is make sure that people are keeping clear of

all barricades so there is a clear path. maybe that means he will come out soon. we will check back with you the moment he is released. >> there was a video showing the pat he talks when brock turner leaves jail flanked by walls of media on both sides. during his time in jail he received loads of hate mail, hundreds of letter and a lieutenant the santa clara jail told abc that he received so many letters that he asked the jail to stop giving him mail. the snail said they kept the mail and will give it to him when he is releases. brock turner was kept in protective custody the who will time and a plan is in place for his safety after release and he has to decide to take the mail or have the jail destroy it. >> after he is released protesters gather next door at hall of justice at 10:00. a coalition of dedicated to recalling judge persky is going to gather on the steps to draw attention to their campaign.
