(cheers and applause) well, i'm so excited about this one because this room was inspired by one of the boldest musicians of all time, the king of rock and roll himself, elvis presley. (cheers and applause) i know, right? i know a lot of you at home are freaking out right now. now, elvis' mansion graceland, which is located in memphis, tennessee, is home to so many different themed rooms, and one of the most popular is his living room, which is also most famously known as the jungle room. >> i didn't know that about his house, that he had different themed rooms. >> yeah. >> that's so cool. >> elvis was a cool dude. well, as you can see, the room was inspired by his love of hawaii, which is also so near and dear to my heart, so it
3:35 pm
incorporates loads of hawaiian jungle and polynesian-themed decor, so i've used the influence of the king to make this jungle room, but this one's a little bit more modern, chic, and, of course, bold. okay. so, now, one of the most common plants in hawaii is the ohe, which is also known as bamboo. this one actually is made of interlocking bamboo panels. check this stuff out. it's super cool. look at that. it's actually made of sort of a condensed styrofoam and it's from textures plus. check it out. and each panel comes in three different styles, but they also weigh about five pounds, so they're very easy to install, they're very lightweight and funky. >> nicole, do you feel like you would use the bamboo in your house on the shore, your shore flip? >> i feel like this whole room just reminds me of "jersey shore," so it's bringing me back and, yeah. >> it's really bold and adds a lot of texture and stuff to the room, so you like that? >> i think it's cool. >> i think it's a cool way to use it, and sparingly, you guys. okay, so elvis' favorite subject in school was woodshop. did you guys know that? >> i did not know that. >> yeah. >> i don't know anything. >> he was good with his hands. (laughter) >> this is like school for me.
3:36 pm
i'm learning so much. >> you're learning so much. well, it's no surprise that the jungle room, of course, featured many carvings and wood designs by polynesian natives but i don't really recommend that as sort of a modern spin on things, so i actually found this wood slab table that's actually known as a free-edge table, and also these additional stools. >> yeah, i love these. >> aren't they funky? >> they're comfy, they're cute, rustic. i love it. >> exactly. and what i love about them is that it really adds a sort of funky, sort of mid-century modern... >> yeah, the hairpin... i was gonna say, it's so chic right now and it's so in, that mid-century modern look. >> it is, and this is gonna really transcend all kinds of decor themes and styles, so you'll have it for a long, long time. now, did you guys know that in that room, elvis used green shag carpet on the floor and the ceiling... ooh, honey, he tried it. (laughter) ...to improve the room's acoustics, and in, actually, 1976, him and a full band recorded an entire album in the jungle room. >> oh, so that's why it was on the ceiling. >> yeah. >> okay. i could see that, i could see that, if you're trying to make the sound right. >> eh... but in 2016, honey, it's extremely tacky and dusty
3:37 pm
and i can only imagine a huge violation for the fire department, so, guys, don't put carpeting or rugs on your ceiling, but you can be bold with the rug choice, so i say go for something vibrant that really sticks out, like this one from rugs usa. it gives a tropical impression but it's not dated and the unified color just really sets the tone for anything else. >> nicole, what is the tackiest thing you have in your house? >> uh-oh. >> honestly... i know this is a huge surprise, but i have no animal print in my house. >> really? >> my house is traditional. >> lea-lea, you wore your pants for no reason. >> oh, man! >> it's all dark cherry. it's a very traditional house, all dark cherries and maroon, so... >> wow! >> it's, like, very old-school italian. >> any scrolls? >> i have scroll pets. >> there you go. >> oh, i have scroll pillows too. >> scroll pillows. that works too. well, i'm sure you have a wonderful house for entertaining, which leads me to this amazing tiki bar. now, elvis loved to serve up a cocktail at his own tiki bar. >> oh, these are real. >> yeah, girl. >> i thought they were props. (laughter)
3:38 pm
wait, they're real. >> yes, they are real and ready for a cocktail, but this bar, i actually found. it's a 1950s vintage bar from the hunt vintage, and i actually used that same façade that i did on the walls and covered the front of it so you get in a little extra pop that you can use. now, i love a bar because it adds a focal point to any room and, of course, gives a place for your guests to sort of convene and kind of hang out over there. >> 'cause everybody wants to get drunk. >> exactly. that's the purpose of coming over, right? >> right. you've got it. >> they ain't here for the sermon. >> yeah. >> well, after filming "blue hawaii" in 1961, of course, elvis fell in love with hawaiian culture. i cannot blame him. i'm with you, elvis. now, he used his love of hawaii to create his jungle-themed room, but he also added a lot of hawaiian influences like this 3-d wall carving that i found from pono carvings. it's so fantastic. i love it because it actually spreads out from six to eight feet, so a 3-d kind of wall panel or art piece is a really cool way to involve art in not just such a literal way. >> which island are you from, lauren? >> i'm from oahu, right here. >> oh, okay. >> you're from hawaii? >> yeah, girl, i moved here from hawaii. >> really?
