you've probably seen ads promising education for the future. >> now thousands of itt tech students are stranded after the company announced it is shutting doors effective immediately. and two of the colleges are here in the area. >> we are live from the concord campus from reaction and what students need to know. lyanne? >> reporter: students should know that loans could be forgiven if they have not completed their degree. and so many ifs for students trying to do the right thing and trying to get ahead in life. confused students came to the

tech offices in concord demanding answers. the school was already closed for the quarter break and now it will remain that way permanently. students were notified via e-mail. randy was scheduled to get his degree in network security in three months. >> we just shut a school down and they just stopped finances and for me they stopped me from graduating and getting my degree, therefore getting me a better job. >> reporter: the school was being investigated for the recruiting and accounting practices and high tuition. >> the priorities were more around recruitment and enrolling students and not so much on student success. >> reporter: finally the department of education told itt it could no longer enroll new students who are on federal financial aid. today the department put out this statement. the school's decisions have put its students and millions of dollars in taxpayer funded federal student aid at risk.

>> i was on financial aid and they told me that, you know, it was supposed to pay the 46,000 and i would only have to pay $22,000, but that is still a lot of money that i can't afford right now. >> reporter: monroe martinez took out a loan to cover the $22,000. the company that owns the 130 campuses blames the department of education for forcing it to shut down. saying there was a complete disregard by the department of education for due process to the company. the school is letting students know they may be able to transfer some credits to other schools. in concord, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. so what happens now to students who suddenly find themselves without a school? >> seven on your side michael finney continues with our team covera coverage. you feel so bad for the kids that are enrolled and one young man took out a loan and now he is stuck with that. >> a majority of them took out loans. that is how they paid for this. and so there are a lot of people on the hook for thousands and

thousands of dollars. there are two major issues. what happens to the credit they earned at itt and will they be responsible for all of the money for the student loans? the department of education announced students would be eligible to have federal loans forgiven if they start all over at another school. the education department is encouraging community colleges to be flexible in accepting credits from itt. and the educational services said they will assist students in obtaining records and pursuing education elsewhere. however, itt warns it might be difficult to transfer credits to another school. some say the most likely prospect might be other for-profit schools but right now many of the schools are under federal scrutiny and students may be not willing to take that risk. the education department has an 800 number to answer student questions. that number is 800-4-fed aid and a special website is set up. several webinars are expected to

anmation at 7:00 tonight, just a patch of clouds that will sweep away quickly by early morning and certainly will be gone by afternoon tomorrow. overnight lows under mainly clear skies. we'll be mainly in the mid to upper 50s to mild in spots but cooler and 49 at napa and on the coast with lows in the low 50s overnight and then tomorrow highs ranging from 74 at half moon bay to 80 in san francisco. mid to upper 80s in the east bay shoreline and upper 90s, not only in the inland east bay but in the north bay as well. so it is a hot day. and just a few hot weather tips for you. you might want to stay hydrated and limit out door activity and minimize exposure to the sun and wear light weight clothing. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. hot tomorrow and in our inland areas and toasty around the bay as well but inland relief on thursday as we have a pretty sharp drop-off in temperatures. friday and saturday, 90s and upper 80s by sunday so temperatures start to moderate as we get to the weekend.

last week when the man who has been questioned in connection to several child sex assault cases in minnesota and now in jail on child pornography charges agreed to a plea deal, leading investigators to jacob's remains. in court hinrich admitted he sexually abused jacob and shot him twice and buried him twice to cover his tracks. >> the unthinkable admissions that we just heard in court should, of course, make all of us angry. we will all ask many times why. and there is no good answer. >> reporter: and as part of the deal reached with prosecutors, he pled guilty to a federal child pornography charge and could now be sentenced up to 20 years in prison. elizabeth hur, abc 7 news, new york. it appears gun sales are on track to break another record. the fbi conducted more than 1.8 million background checks last month. a 6% increase from august of 2015. it is the most checks ever in

new photos from nasa show a view of jupiter hardly visible from earth. the pictures taken show the planets southern aurora which is a fantastic light show and this is the first time experts have seen it in such detail because of the giant planets unique orbit. they took the photos to study how the sun and other sources influence auroras. mystery solved -- sort of. we're learning the newlyweds caught in the stunning sunset at yosemite wish to remain anonymous. a photographer from hawaii caught this picture perfect moment last thursday and he shared it on social media and it went viral and another

photographer who took photos said they wish to remain anonymo anonymous, but this is wild. we have the picture on instagram. follow us to take a look. let's take a look at our warm up. this is live doppler 7. the low clouds are off shore which is an indicator this time of the year as a warm up and it is going to warm up tomorrow. this is hour by hour in livermore tomorrow starting at 6:00 a.m. where it is 61 degrees and by 10:00 a.m. 74 degrees and by 2:00 p.m., 94 and 97 by 4:00 p.m. so it is a hot day tomorrow in our inland areas. and all across the bay area. it is going to be mild to warm. mostly mid-70s on the coast tomorrow. mid to upper 80s around the bay and numerous upper 90s in the inland communities. as a matter of fact, for the week ahead, let me give you a look at livermore -- this is san jose. temperatures will rise sharply tomorrow in our inland areas but drop off rather sharply on thursday and friday.

abc news, say he is innocent. >> female is crying and asking for help. >> reporter: it was last tuesday morning that police responded to a 911 call from a former beauty queen bailey curran who later told abc news she was in brown's home with a dozen others looking at a box of expensive diamond jewelry when brown suddenly lashed out at her. >> and that is when chris came in and said, i'm so sick of all of you people. took the gun out like this and put it in my face and said get the f out. >> reporter: and now the brown defense team is refuting that claim, sharing a text message allegedly sent by the cuser to afriend minutes before the 911 call and saying this freak chris brown is kicking me out of his house because i called his friend's jewelry fake and i'm going to set him up and call the cops and say that he tried to shoot me and that will teach him a lesson and that will set his

expletive up. >> and a gun was not found in the house. >> reporter: his accuser is standing by the claims stressing it wouldn't make sense for her to give her phone to police if she had written such an in crim nating text herself. as for brown, he is due back in court in two weeks. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. chevy chase is back in rehab for treatment of an alcohol problem. he checked into the hazel benediction treatment center in minnesota for what is called a tune-up in his recovery. he has long struggled with alcohol and substance abuse and he spent time in the betty ford clinic in the 1980s for treatment for an addiction to prescription pain killers. apple is expected to unveil the new iphone 7 tomorrow at a media event in san francisco. there are some changes expected, as usual. there is more memory and a faster processor. a number of reports suggest the camera is improved and get this, a second camera will allow you

here is a look at tonight' prime time lineup. bachelor in paradise, after paradise and mistresses at 10:00 followed by abc 7 news at 11:00. an old paddle boat that sank in the delta over the weekend isn't going anywhere any time soon and those who patrol the waterways say it is an example for a larger problem that plaqued the delta for years. laura anthony is live in antioch with the details. laura? >> reporter: well the law enforcement that regularly patrols the delta tells us that the sinking of the river boat is just the latest example of all of the commercial debris that they are having a hard time cleaning out. the sunk ep spirit of sacramento may be a mixture in the delta for sometime as a private salvage company continues to assess the wreckage. >> at this time, we do have boom around the entire vessel. and that is our primary concern right now, is to mitigate the

environmental risks. >> reporter: in the meantime, contra costa sheriffs confirm their marine patrol did board the old paddle boat over the weekend. as it was anchored illegally along frank's track. >> we have in depth moring and sanitation and the deputies asked them thatner not in compliance with the law so they asked them to move along. >> reporter: a man and woman on board told sheriffs they recently bought the 87 foot paddle boat for a thousand dollars at an auction. early sunday as it took on water the two escaped in a dingy and haven't been seen since. even if sheriffs locate the couple, chances are they don't have resources to pay for the boat's removal. >> who will remove the spirit of sacramento. >> i don't know anybody who will remove the spirit of sacramento and people buy them for a fraction of the dollar and then they take them out and they end up sunk and they sit there until they deteriorate.
