we would like to announce that jasmine is free. celeste gaup that you heard of exists no more. >> the young woman at the center of the police scandal that's reached seven departments across the bay area was released from a florida jail today, and their lawyers came out swinging. good afternoon, everyone. >> the lawyers made it clear that the 19-year-old who used to call herself celeste gaup will go by her real name. >> she spent the last 16 days in a florida jail after biting a worker at the treasure coast recovery center, and today she pled no contest to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery and is heading home. >> reporter: her lawyers

criticized the police department for sending her across the country. seven officers now face charges, two of them for sexual activity when she was underage. >> and i will represent to you that this child has been kidnapped. she has been placed in fear of her life. she has been held against her will in multiple locations in the bay area, so whether or not somebody gave her a dollar or a dime is irrelevant. the fact that she is alive today is a miracle. she's going home. any other questions. >> her attorneys are pushing for more overs to be charged and are preparing a civil lawsuit. >> abc 7 news i-team reporter, you've been following this story for months, dan, and you've been in communication with jasmine repeatedly. who do the attorneys plan on suing, first of all? >> you start with the seven officers who have been charged now criminally, two charged with having contact with her underage. she told me all along that she's been involved with more than 30 officers so those are targets and then as thai supervisors who

may have known about what was happening and did nothing. >> her lawyers mention that had she wanted to leave her old life behind, become a veterinarian and even downplayed her drug use. i mean, how big of a problem is this really? >> they did in the news conference and sapd she's not an addict. got to tell you from personal experience she has shared her drug use and has told me about her drug use and shown me what she uses. if the this is ignored, it could just be problems in the future and for her sake i really hope they don't downplay that drug use and they take care of it because it's a serious issue. >> one of the attorneys mentioned jasmine has been receiving death threats. what do we know about that? what do you know? >> news to us. clearly getting a lot of heat on social media and still refuses to take down her social media on facebook, instagram and the others. getting a lot of really aggressive comments, but in terms of death threats that's new to us, and that's something that will definitely watch out for in the future. >> more news conferences planned, right? >> headed back tonight on an

description of the man they think stole the money, but since nobody actually saw him steal the money, he's not a suspect, just a person of interest. whomever he may be. it was just before noon, right after a sunday service here at the cornerstone community church. the collection baskets filled with cash and checks were placed on a table in front of the pews. palo alto police agent marco estrada. >> while pastor was talking to some of the folks that normally attend the church, someone took, stole the money they had collected during the mass. >> just how much money? >> it's estimated between $8,000 and $10,000 were taken. >> reporter: the pastor told police a stranger approached him while he was chatting with parish next and he asked. >> was this thelast service and

the pastor said it was the last service of the day. >> reporter: minutes later the money was missing from the collection baskets. >> $10,000, oh, my. >> reporter: folks at this nearby park were stunned, both by the amount of money taken and the fact that someone would actually steal from a church. >> stealing from the church is in my -- in my opinion, i'd be scared. i fear the lord myself, so -- >> it's a say credit place where you come to pray and someone just come with a different heart intention. it's unbelievable. >> reporter: unbelievable, some would say outrageous. vic lee. abc 7 news >> a 100-year-old san francisco woman cause in a housing showdown is now hospitalized just before show was set to be evicted. iris canada has been fighting to stay in her home of more than 50 years in the western edition neighborhood. she was hospitalized yesterday after seeing the sheriff's

notice warning she would be locked out of her home today. last month a judge sided with building orders after finding canada failed to pay court-order attorney fees. >> on this wednesday saw a little bit of a bump in temperatures this afternoon thanks to sunny skies and a light wind creating warmer temperatures. outside look from the tower camera showing you we have perfect visibility of the golden bridge in the background and nothing but clear bay waters as far as the eye can see. the big story is the bump in temperatures. 24-hour temperature charges especially in the north bay and our inland towns. anywhere from 3 to almost 10 degrees warmer right now than we were this time yesterday. so live doppler 7 part of the reason why. live doppler 7 giving you nothing but a clear scan out there. the marine layer, take a look at this, about 70 miles away from the coast, so that means we're in store for a pretty nice evening on tap. so the next six hours or so,

sunny skies early on. your sun is going to go down about 7:18 this evening and plenty of stars, look at that. your coastal fog not even returning until close to midnight tonight so enjoy the evening that. marine layer returning means we'll have a wide range in temperatures on our way for thursday. we'll have that in the five-day forecast coming up. >> hazardous material spill and crews are cleaning up hydrochloric acid and chlorine. the chemicals fell off a pickup around 8:30. authorities closed the street and order 20 residents to shelter in place. two people suffered minor injuries in that crash. and a frightening warning for a driver in san francisco began around 3:00 a.m. with a carjacking at 24th avenue and geary boulevard and ended in a crash near at&t park. nbc news 7 report amy hollyfield. >> reporter: this is what it looked like after being stolen and ratsd away from police and

crashed at second and king. it was a sight people living in the area couldn't believe. >> i don't think i've ever seen a car beaten up like that in my life. >> reporter: people say there were three people inside the car, all wanted for stealing the car. >> two of the suspects stayed within the vehicle and one of them bailed out of the vehicles and there was a short foot pursuit. officers were able to detain that subject and make an arrest on all three suspects. >> reporter: it started after 3:00 this morning in san francisco's richmond district at geary and 25th avenue. police say three men walked up to a man who was standing outside his car. >> at which point they indicated that they had a firearm and took his car. >> police found the car, tried to do a traffic stop but the driver took off. police pursued the car until it crashed here next to at&t park. the wreckage forced the shutdown of southbound and embarcadero at townsend street until 7:30 this morning. >> normally a safe area, and you

never see anything like this. it's always very quiet at night. you don't really hear any commotion and never expect anything scary like this to happen. hopefully no one was hurt >> reporter: three people inside that car were taken to the hospital to be checked out. they are expected to be okay. police say the three men, the suspects, are all in their 20s. san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. abc 7 news was outside bank of america building in san francisco this morning where a window on the 11th floor somehow broke sending glass raining down on to the street below. workers had to close one lane to clean under the mess. no word of any injuries. we've contacted the building to try to find out why that window shattered. >> the wells fargo fake account scandal is now a federal case. the san francisco-based bank was hit with a $185 million fine last week for opening accounts without the knowledge of its customers. the "wall street journal" reports federal prosecutors have launched an investigation.

on samsung's flagship smartphone. >> this time a driver in florida barely escaped injury. abc 7 news anchor kristen sze is here with the video. >> check out this picture in our nbc 7 news tweet. the explosion happened last night in florida. listen to the stunned witness. >> be careful, guys. this is what can happen. >> oh, my god. >> witness sharon cain is a nurse and she stopped to help and the driver is okay. the driver says his galaxy note 7 exploes proceeded in the passenger seat while he was charging t.investigators are still looking into it. this makes it at least the 18th explosion or fire in the u.s. involving the note 7. as of september 1st, a florida man says he left his notebook and known to charge and his cheap cherokee when it exploded on his driveway and this 6-year-old boy in new york suffered second-degree burns

when the samsung phone he was watching videos on exploded. the faa is telling air travelers to power off their note 7 while in flight and the u.s. government is moipoised to issu recall soon. the company says this should cut the fire risk by 60%. the update will be released first in south korea. no timeline yet for the u.s. >> thank you. muni riders will rejoice at this news. cell phone service is come to the muni subway. transit officials made the announcement. muni will add on to b.a.r.t.'s existing underground cell phone service this. does not include wi-fi. expanding the cellular network will cost nearly $6 million, but muni will not pay a cents of it. cellular companies will be picking up the tab. >> it won't cost us anything. it won't impact our operating or capital budget. it won't detract from the core work that we need to do. there is a potential that will actually generate some revenue

for us. >> muni may actually make some money on this deal, and that's because carriers will pay an annual fee to provide service as a benefit to their customers. getting cellular service connected will take 12 to 18 months. >> uber's fleet of self-driving cars is officially on the road. the pilot program began today in pittsburgh, pennsylvania, a joint venture between uber and carnegie-mellon university. at this point passengers are not riding alone. uber has human co-pilots along for the ride to help in trick situations or just in case the technology fails. many experts predict it will be decades before fully driverless vehicles hit the road under any conditions. >> all right. let's turn to our forecast now and meteorologist drew tuma is here. i didn't realize this, apparently beard weather. >> just getting my face ready for the fall. we're warming up, not cooling down. we'll prepare for a little bit

more summer over the weekend. live doppler showing us it's a really nice picture and no fog over the bay area. that's well out to sea, and it will stay out there until around midnight tonight. had a live look from our emoriville camera showing not had a cloud to be seen. we're soaked in sunshine and really just a gorgeous september afternoon we have at hand. take a look at our temperatures right now. really comfortable. san francisco, you're currently at 68 degrees. we're at 75 in petaluma and 77 in napa and danville 78 and san jose very comfortable right now checking in in the upper 70s. overnight tonight, the big story, that nothing is going to hold off until well after midnight. a couple of cool spots in the north bay and upper 40s and elsewhere most spots will hold in the low to mid-50s overnight. hour by hour, watch the time stamp over here. 11:00 tonight. just beginning to see that fog gather right along the coast. it's not until after midnight. here goes that fog pushing into the bay and it won't be too expansive. we'll zoom on in and show you the fog and right over oakland and, of course, over san francisco and that's really about the extent right along the

immediate bay waefrmts as we head into the mid-morning hours, very typical pattern of burning off at the coast and away from the coast on your thursday afternoon. a really nice day again and warming temperatures in our inland locations. take a look at what the the day planner is hour by hour. nothing around the bay and the coast. by noon, most sports are seeing sunshine except the coast. nice for september. by 4:00 we'll see temperatures probably four or five degrees warmer and by 7:00 we'll see the sun go down at 18 minutes past seven. highs across the region on your thursday really comfortable. you'll notice a touch cooler along the coast with the return of the fog. 46 in san francisco and 60 half moon bay and 38 in concord and up to 86 in antioch and san jose up to 79 degrees. we'll take you into san jose. just want to show you the temperature trend for the week ahead. you'll notice it's a gradual warming trend. as we head into the weekend and early next week, that's when temperatures are going to peak across the region. we'll go to the mid-80s in san jose. inland spots are going into the

now a source familiar with the investigation tells abc 7 news an officer's pant leg was grazed by some sort of bullet or pellet. you can see an officer speaking to someone there. >> looks like he has handcuffs on. >> they have taken a person into custody. it's not clear if that's in connection though with this incident. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen is at the scene and is gathering information and will have a live report on "abc 7 news at 5:00. ". the prospect of a new stadium is sending the value. oakland raiders skyrocketing. a report said in "forbes" says the raid remembers now the nfl's 20th most valuable team worth $2.1 billion. that's up 47% from a year ago. analysts say it's because the team will likely have a new home whether that's in oakland or las vegas or los angeles remains to be seen. it appears to be coming. the niners, they are sitting pretty. they are the nfl's fourth most valuable franchise. of course, openin levi stadium helped a bunch worth an estimated $3 billion. meanwhile, the las vegas effort to build a stadium, perhaps for

here's what's making headlines at 4:30. the woman at the center of a bay area police sex scandal is out of a florida jail and heading back home. jasmine abustland has spent the past 16 days in jail after prosecutors say she bit a worker at a recovery center in stewart, florida. she pled no contest to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery. she's a key witness in which seven bay area officers face charges. people in vallejo protested today over a proposed cement plant there. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman tweeted a picture of a home owner who is worried about the dust this will cause and wayne will have a story coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00. also at 5:00, san francisco supervisor jane kim has a proposal to make city college of

san francisco free. leanne melendez will tell us about the tax that will pay for it. >> the husband of a mother paralyzed by a falling tree branch in san francisco is asking the city to take bert care of its aging freeze. a neighborhood group that partners with the city on tree maintenance is meeting tonight at 6:00. abc 7 news is live at washington square park with that story. carolyn? >> well, it has about 150 neighborhood groups that partner with it to take care of the city's parks, but after that horrible accident here you can imagine there's some extra scrutiny at this one. the man says his family's life fwrent heaven to hel all right day his wife was critically injured. a 100-pound tree branch at washington square crashed. doctors say the 36-year-old woman will never walk again. >> she told me she like, you know, she want to die, and i was like, no, no, no. >> city workers like this one today are taking stock.

trees in the square. they say the canary island pine that fell was healthy. that species was pruned in 2013 after a neighborhood organization, friends of washington square donated $10,000 to reck & park. >> our collaboration with the department has been very good, but we've also learned that the department is really stressed for its crew and that means it doesn't have the budget to expand it. >> reporter: tim says his group developed the first long-term tree maintenance program for the square back in 2008 and will meet tonight to update the strategy. he believes the recent accident has prompted greater attention from the city. >> it sort of moved us up on the list. >> mayor ed lee has visited the victim in the hospital and her husband hopes the city will make tree safety a priority. >> just not going to happen again to another family. >> reporter: experts say trees should be pruned every 15 years.

however, according to a report by the non-profit parks alliance san francisco has only enough arborists to prune its 177,000 once a century. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> a man accused of intentionally running down phoenix police officers faced a previous charge in another officer attack. mark payne is accused of driving into a group of police injuring three. one officer remains in the hospital. payne appeared in court today, and it's not his first time. in 1997 he took a plea after attacking three officers. there are reports he's an activist, but leaders of black lives matter phoenix says he's not familiar with payne and praised police for how they handled the situation. >> they acted with what i would say class and dignity and did a yeoman's job is taking the suspect alive so that we might get to the bottom of what caused this kind of hatred.

>> payne's accused of fighting with an officer after the crash. police tased and arrested him. hillary clinton is expected to return to the campaign trail tomorrow. this as both she and rival donald trump released their medical records. more now on the race for the white house. >> reporter: donald trump's health to be revealed on a daytime talk show. >> it's two letters, one is the report and the other is from lenox hill hospital. >> reporter: audience members of the dr. oz show watched as the 770-year-old billionaire handed over his medical records and recent results of a physical to the tv doctor. >> he's in good health. >> he said looking at it, if he was his doctor, he'd like him to slim down just a little bit. >> reporter: hillary clinton released health information but more detailed than trumps. records show she's on antibiotics recovering from pneumonia, and clinton's doctor says her physical exam was normal. trump was later in flint, michigan, checking on the city's efforts to recover from its lead contaminated water crisis. the gop nominee also spoke at a

church when he got a pastoral interruption for getting too political. >> mr. trump, i invited you here to thank you. >> not to give a political speech. >> okay, that's good. >> reporter: trump on the trail and back home battling with new york's attorney general. the clinton supporter launched an inquiry into trump's nonprofit foundation after "the washington post" reported trump hadn't donated since 2008 and $20,000 in charitable funds was spent to buy a 6 foot tall painting of trump. trump's campaign all calls a left wing hit job and boast candidates are dealing with blistering attacks from former gop secretary of state colin powell. in hacked e-mails powell called trump a national disgrace and described clinton as unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational. a "newsweek" magazine report is questioning trump's business ties with foreign groups and his daughter says if he becomes president his company will be put into a blind trust and turned over to his children to run. >> clinton and trump will face

each other in less than two weeks for the first of three presidential debates. the first one is on september 26th to be followed by two debates in okay. the general election is now less than two months away. the atlantic coast conference is following the ncaa's lead this afternoon and moving its championship out of north carolina as well. the conference announced it would move its championship games out of the state for the 2016-'17 season in response to the state's controversial house bill two. the law prevents cities and counties from passing protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. earlier this year nba moved its all-star game from charlotte. >> power slowly coming back on in georgia and florida after tropical storm julia hit that region overnight. the storm brought strong winds and heavy rains into that area. schools and government offices did remain open. the national weather service says julia is the first tropical storm to form over fland florida since records have been kept. here's a satellite view from
