the woman at the center of a police sex crime scandal is coming home and is planning to testify against the officers in the case. we're talking about jasmine abusland, tonight out of jail and preparing lawsuits. good evening, i'm kristen sze. >> and i'm dan ashley. >> her attorneys did have plenty of say. >> i-team reporter dan noyes joins us with the late sigalert jasmine, her father and attorneys are head back to the bay area. they wouldn't tell me what time they will arrive, but they are planning another news conference for tomorrow. it's been a busy day for all of them. 19-year-old jasmine began this day in a green jail jumper in chains and you could barely hear her answer if she was satisfied with her lawyers. she was released on time served 17 days, wrote a letter of

apology and agreed to a blood test. her attorney said he's been in contact with alameda county district attorney nancy o'malley about jasmine's importance in criminal cases to be filed against seven current and former officers. >> at this moment in time this is the most wanted woman in california. she's wanted for a reason. she's going to be a major witness on behalf of prosecutors. >> reporter: her attorney captured the moment she was released from jail in this tweet and then lashed out at officers who in her words trafficked her in sex start when she was underage. >> we want our law enforcement to be held accountable, to protect and serve in the way that we expect them to. we have a right to expect our law enforcement to do that, and i can tell you as we return to the bay area we intend to hold everyone accountable. >> pamela price had words for the richmond pd who sent her to rehab in florida. clearly there are many qualified places in the bay area. i go deep near that issue coming

up on nbc news at 6:00. >> right now breaking news in san jose. a close call for a police officer. >> abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen joins us live with details. chris? >> reporter: some very tense moments for people in this area. the good news to report tonight is that no injuries at all, but this all started around 3:00 p.m. and take a look at this video from sky 7. it all started when employees at a veterinary hospital across the street called police to report that someone was firing pellet shots hat one of their customers as well as some of the employees who had stepped out to help. now, police came out to see what was going on and here's what happened next. this is audio from the police radios. >> yeah. we got incoming pellets here. they are still shooting at us over here. we'll see if we can find him. >> reporter: so those police officers also ended up getting hit with those pellets. now, i smoke to the owner of the

veterinary hospital. she says that this is a relatively safe neighborhood. we're locate at the sander theresa marketplace behind an apartment complex where police were conducting some of their initial investigation. again, she is praising san jose police tonight for their quick response. san jose police had been canvassing the neighborhood trying to figure out what exactly happened. who is responsible for it all and we'll let you know as soon as we hear back in terms of their investigation. we're live in san jose tonight. i'm chris nguyen, abc 7 news. >> chris, thank you. the fate of hayward's suspended school superintendent is on the line tonight. in just over an hour the district's board of trustees will meet to the decide whether or not to terminate stan dobbs. tensions go back to last year following an angry confrontation involving board and dobbs. he's accused of cursing at board members and acting in a violent manner. he has an explosive temper but

community members are going to the meeting in support of dobbs. >> we need him here and will fight for him to stay here. >> dobbs has some acsagsz of his own against the board which he says has mismanaged new england. we'll have an update on the board meeting, and we'll hear from dobbs on abc 7 news at 6. >> it's hard to believe that someone would ever steal church offerings but someone did. it happened at the cornerstone community church in palo alto last sunday. abc 7 news reporter vick lee is there live with a story. vick, even as they were in their pews? >> right? >> reporter: right. i mean, you know, think of it. stealing sunday church offerings? well, it did happen right here at this asian baptist church. now we spoke to the pastor by phone. he declined to go on camera, and the police, they have very little to go on. they do have a broad description of the man they think stole the money. he's asian hand in his 40s. he wore a hoodie, and the people we spoke with, it all got the

same reaction. >> especially in a clutch, absolutely, absolutely. you know, they have got some guts, i'll tell you that. >> reporter: that's how most people reacted to the robbery. it was just before noon, right after a sunday service here at the cornerstone community church. the collection baskets filled with cash and checks were placed on a table in front. pews. palo alto police agent marco estrada. >> the pastor was talking to some of the folks that normally attend the church. someone took and stole the money they had collected during the mass. >> just how much money. >> it's estimated that between 8,000 and 10,000 were taken. >> the pastor told police a stranger approached him while he was chatting with parishioners and he asked -- >> was this the last service and then the pastor told him it was

the last service of the day. >> reporter: minutes later the money was missing from the collection baskets. >> $10,000? oh, my. >> reporter: folks at this nearby park were stunned, both by the amount of money taken and the fact that someone would actually steal from a church. >> stealing from the church is in my -- in my opinion, i'd be scared, you know. i fear the lord myself, so. >> it's a sacred place where you come to pray and someone just come with a different heart intention. it's unbelievable. >> reporter: unbelievable, some would say outrageous. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> the chp is still look for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident in oakland sunday morning. a motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a minivan on eastbound 980 near the 27th street area. officers are looking for a white 2016 kia sedona like this one with damage near the front right

wheel. the cyclist was 40-year-old steven lee of antioch. a gofundme account has been set up to help his wife and four young children. we have a link to the account on our website, abc7news.com. tesla is saying little about a fatal crash in china that may have occurred while the automated driving assistance system was operating. crash of the sedan with autopilot technology like this one happened last january. the car slammed into a streetsweeper on a highway killing a 23-year-old man sitting behind the wheel. tesla says it hasn't been able to determine whether the autopilot was active at this time of the crash. this man was killed when his autopiloted sedan crashed in florida. the ships re coming in, two of them at least from the embattled south korea shipping company. one of them traveled underneath the george washington bridge this afternoon and while the port of oakland is certainly relieved some truckers say all this cargo creates an expensive

officials announced they are expanding cellular service to muni's subway. muni will tap into b.a.r.t.'s existing service. construction will take up to 18 months and cost nearly $6 million. muni won't pay a penny. cellular companies will pick up the cost. riders will have to use their data plans in order to surf the internet because it will not include wi-fi. there's a push in this country to make community college free for all students. today the vice president's wife was here to promote tuition-free education while one college in san francisco is one step closer to accomplish that. >> reporter: dan, let's start here at city college san francisco. even though two significance relatively low, many students have to work in order to pay for the fees. now supporters like dr. biden say let's scratch the k-12 education system and should be

k-12, education free for all. >> hi, diana. >> hi, taylor, how are you? >> leah williams. >> reporter: during a gathering to talk about funding community colleges dr. jill biden insisted on shaking everybody's hands. >> thank you for being here. we appreciate it. >> reporter: those who came, business and community college leaders, heard her push for president obama's initiative that would guarantee that the first two years of community college be free. >> it's all about jobs, and it's all about having the best educated workforce in the world. >> the federal government would fund three-quarters of it and states would pay the rest are. the white house says an estimated 9 million full-time community college students would save an average of $3,800 in tuition per year. biden says an educated workforce would contribute more in taxes. >> tennessee just recently made community college free, and i say if tennessee can do it, san francisco can do it.

>> san francisco wants to earmark the funds tore city college. the money would come from an increase in the real estate transfer tax for properties sold at 5 million and above. >> this tax, according to our own controller's office is estimated to generate on average $44 million a year. >> any extra money from that tax would go to help low-income students cover other expenses. >> we know that tuition isn't the only barrier to school. in fact, we hear often from students that even with the fees waived they can't afford the books and transportation. >> community college must be free. >> residents will have a chance to vote on it in november. lyanne melendez, nbc 7 news. >> here's a look at live radar. notice a lack of fog in the bay area. temperatures did rise from the santa cruz cameras, seeing lots of sunshine and some people are really enjoying the beach. just might want to go there

especially because it will get hot inland. it's 77 in san jose and a nice warm 80 degrees right now in gilroy and a live flock our sfo camera. it's actually nice and bright. temperatures in the mid-70s. santa rosa and napa. concord and livermore and enjoy the mild weather because we're cranking up the heat. a bit hazy and fog returns to the coast and bay by morning and warming trend continues tomorrow and hot days are expected inland in weekend and continuing into early next week, so tomorrow morning, the biggest difference you're going to notice is the fog is really going to fill in, so when you get going the fog will be around near the coast, around the bay, and it's going to be another cool one just like this morning. the coolest spots in the upper 40s so when you send your kids off to school or you're heading off to work you'll want to grab that extra thin layer at least hand north afternoon coats you'll need to hang on to. hour-by-hour forecast, the fog is starting to close in on the coast. it pushes in over the bay by 5:00 a.m. so 5:00 a.m. if your commute begins, look out for the

fog. if you take the ferry across the bay, it's right near the east bay along the entire coast and it stays there all afternoon long for your thursday. this is summer for you. inland and bay you'll see the sun and the temperatures will continue to rise. here's your hour-by-hour day plane, fog at 7:00 a.m., 40s and 50s, noontime, temperatures begin to rise and it's going to be mild at 4:00 p.m. for most of you, except neither coast where it will remain cool. sun goes down at 7:17 and the temperatures begin to fall. speaking of, here's a look at the average high for livermore. 85 degrees. you'll be close to that tomorrow and after that well i'm crank up the heat so the temperatures come up into the low 990s right before monday before they drop tuesday and wednesday. i know not everyone loves that heat. that's why you live in san francisco, at least around this time of year. you still have the nothing to keep you comfortable. 48 in the south bay and gilroy and 79 in san jose. pretty mild on the peninsula. mid-70s redwood city and san matteo and cool in pacifica and
