lanes are closed after police chase and crash just east of the toll plaza in hayward. the lanes are expected to remain closed for at least two hours. this is a live picture. it's not clear which law enforcement agencies were involved in the chase. >> the highway patrol though is referring all calls to hayward police. we do have a crew approaching that scene. abc 7 news reporter melanie wood rou woodruff joins us. what are you seeing? >> reporter: we just went past the toll plaza on the eastbound side and that traffic is stopped westbound. now we've stopped the toll plaza we can see what appears to be a hayward police department vehicle that is very badly mangled. it looks like a tow truck is lift wiing it up but it's wreck so badly the back end is lifted and it looks like the front end is still crashed down on the roadway here. we have heard on scanner traffic we haven't been able to confirm the specific details there was some type of vehicle pursuit,

some suspect pursuit, and that a hard ward police department unit did go off the road and that's what we're seeing here, also there was a suspect vehicle that may have rolled over. i'm not seeing that second vehicle just now, but chp traffic management did confirm there was an accident scene on the westbound traffic lanes of highway 92 just east of the toll plaza. chp is referring all inquiries about this accident to hayward police department we've not heard back from them, but now we're going a little bit further up here past the toll plaza, i'm now seeing a second vehicle that looks like it is being put on a tow truck, also very badly mangled, can't quite make out what the vehicle is, but this is likely that suspect vehicle we heard about that overturned here on the westbound lanes in some type of suspect pursuit. we'll try to get some more information for you and bring it

[ chanting ]

>> reporter: for a third straight night, protestors took to the streets of charlotte. a heavy police presence, backed up by more than 400 national guard troops, didn't detour crowds from demonstrating against the fatal police shooting of keith lamont scott, 43-year-old black man. scott was shot tuesday by a black officer, brently vinson. police say scott refused commands to drop a handgun, which they say was recovered at the scene. some witnesses say scott had no gun. others say he held a book. thursday, authorities allowed scott's family their first look at videos of the incident. in a statement, their lawyers said, after watching the videos, the family, again, has more questions than answers. when he was shot and killed, mr. scott's hands were by his side and he was slowly walking backwards. police say they will not make the videos public until the investigation is over. >> this family does not agree

with rioting or innocent individuals being injured or killed. >> reporter: on wednesday, demonstration turned to bedhim, as teargas and flash grenades were not enough to keep protestors, some blocking their faces from smashing windows and blocking roads. this man was shot, police say not by them. he later died. >> reporter: charlotte's mayor put a midnight curfew until 6:00 a.m. protests have remained peaceful. heather waliga, abc news charlotte. >> president obama is commenting and how to bridge the divide with police in a one-on-one interview with good morning anchor robin roberts. >> that requires being peaceful, that requires being thoughtful about what are the specific reforms you're looking for. >> you can see the rest of that interview tomorrow morning at 7:00 on "good morning america"

could vanish along with their investment. >> all we want to do is try to preserve what we currently have. >> reporter: hundreds of neighbors came to this meeting to strategize. new owners of the 126 acre golf club say they will close the course if the city doesn't grant them the right to develop a section of the green for new housing. >> it is imperative that we do something before it closes. once it closes it's going to die. >> it would just sit there and be a closed course with a fence around it. >> reporter: ronald richards is a beverly hills attorney, managing the course for the owners. there's no plans right now. >> we hope to work out a collaborative development with the community around the course. >> reporter: building homes here would require the city rezone the property, and dave husband sa hudson lives near the property. >> do you support the golf course? >> let me see if i can beat around the bush, no.

there was a person receiving medical attention when the police arrived and a person involved in that initial crash apparently stole a hayward police vehicle. a short time later, officers spotted that stolen vehicle on jackson street near the bridge entrance and chased the suspect and that is when the suspect who is now driving a hayward police vehicle, crashed into two other cars on highway 92 west between the area just east of the toll plaza. people inside those two cars that were crashed into by the suspect who was in the stolen hayward police cruiser received medical attention on the scene and we are told they have minor, to moderate injuries. live in hayward, melanie woodrow,
