so far san jose fire says item burned more than 1,000 acres in very rugged terrain. katie is live in santa clara county with the latest. >> we are at very busy command post here. san jose firefighters and cal fire coming and going some off the lines. some just arriving but we still see bright orange flames from this location. that's partially what is illuminating what is a massive smoke plume there in orange that you can see. let's get to some video from sky 7 hd. we understand that at least one structure has burned and we captured that video as you can see the fire erupted late this afternoon. early reports are that the fire started in a house but this is still a very fluid situation. more than 550 acres have burne burned. that is the official word at this point but that number very likely to go up. the fire just 5 percent contained right now. we understand that homes continue to be threatened up there in the santa cruz mountains but we don't have an exact word on how many homes.

firefighters came at this fire hard. aircraft making big drops trying to slow the fast moving fire. more than 300 evacuations have been ordered up in the hill. sheriff's deputy going door to door trying to get people to leave the homes. also a reverse 911 call has gone out tonight. we have some video from the ground. we took this earlier from the command post. over several hours from this location we watch the flames die down and also flare back up. firefighters here at this scene telling us the flames look to be at least 100 feet high. the good news at this point no reported injuries to firefighters or homeowners about but this is going to be a long fight. spokesperson on the scene telling me due to the limited containment at this point they look at an extended fire fight. live at the loma fire in santa clara county, abc 7 news. >> that's discouraging thanks. hot temperatures really helped fuel the fire today it really is quite warm out there let's check in with sandhya.

>> we have update on the wildfire burning in the santa cruz mouchbilitys evacuation orders in effect near this area because of the fire. cal fire tells us 300 homes are under that order. structures are threatened but unclear how many at this point. at least one has burned. sheriff's deputy will be going door to door tonight and surrounding neighborhoods warning resident they may be asked to leave soon. at least 550 acres burned since it broke out around 3:00 o'clock today. fire is only 5 percent contained. officials in the north bay want all drivers to know how to rescue themselves and their families. this effort comes after two tragic accidents claim the lives of 4 children this summe summer. jonathan bloom has the story.
