one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officers say it's possible that alcohol was involved. more breaking news, this time out of the south bay. another crash involving a car and a pedestrian killed one person in san jose. it happened at 1:35 this morning on northbound highway 101 at the tully road off-ramp. no word on what caused the accident. developing news out of the east bay this morning. union city police are investigating a shooting that happened during a high school football game. it happened at james logan high school around 9:30. no one was hurt. officers found someone hiding and took them into custody, but that person was later found not to be connected to the shooting and that person is not associated with the school. it's unclear how many people were involved in the shooting. police are still looking for the weapon. last night's giants game was a big one for the orange and black, needing to win to get into the second wildcard spot.

day call for one fire a firing -- one firefighter who escaped from a window. >> he was pretty terrified. you don't ever want to hear that. >> classrooms, offices and a recreational space destroyed. firefighters saved the sanctuary. >> the firefighters did an excellent job containing and i'm so gratefuil to them for their speedy action. people are much more important than property. >> heavy smoke caused the evacuation of a nearby dorm. the california firefighting department's heat-sensing drone helped them put out hotspots hours later. >> it's invaluable. we never had that capability on a fire and it proved itself very, very helpful. >> street fires around the fire scene will cause traffic delays for the homecoming football game at cal. police are working on a traffic plan. there's no word on the fire cause yet. but they were underway to

install new solar panels. abc7 news. in novato, five fires are making sure a vegetation fire doesn't spread because of a high-wind forecast. the fire broke out near marin valley drive. it threatened many homes, but officials called off the shelter in place warning in the afternoon. fire is 75% i don't know taken. firefighters battling the loma fire in the santa rosa crude mountains are making progress. there will be a community meeting to discuss updates. it starts at 10:00 at the cultural center. the fire has burned more than 4300 acres and is 50% contained. a dozen homes have been destroyed. katie has more on how flying embers could ignite a new fire. >> even without visible flames the loma fire poses a serious danger. >> the winds is a huge challenge for us. the embers get hot and now they

start flying. >> not only strong wind gusts in the overnight forecast, they said the wind is come from a new direction. >> we had to challenge part of our fire containment line that hasn't seen a lot of wind or floating embers passing through it. >> reporter: to prepare, firefighters are working to prepare the lines as crews continue to comb through the aftermath of the fire. >> getting to the hotspots, getting water on them. it's definitely a lot of mop-up. >> scattered throughout the mountains, homes untouched by the fire and the remains of those destroyed. a dozen so far. >> you do your best effort to protect all homes. at the same time it's not worth anybody's life. >> there is marijuana being grown in the santa cruz mountains. plants like these have been revealed by the fire. some grows are legal, many are not. a source tells abc7 news that eradication teams have been sent to the loma fire. the santa clara county sheriff's department confirms it has initiated a marijuana operation. in los gatos, abc7 news.

and only the abc7 news i-team has learned the loma fire was a likely spot at the site of a marijuana farm and the farm owner has ties to a dispensary in santa cruz. dan has the report that you will see only on abc7 news. >> reporter: the man listed as ceo of the dispensary owns the 80-acre farm where the loma fire may have begun. he issued a a statement through his attorney. >> no firearms, no meth lab, no illegal grow. >> they would not tell us if the owner was running what he considered to be a legal marijuana farm. he said they all want answers about what sparked the blaze. >> we are actively trying to find out. we are actively investigating. they are cooperating. >> new law enforcement and cal fire sources confirm what i reported wednesday. investigators are concentrating

on that farm as the origin of the fire. last month neighbors identified the farm as a marijuana grow to me. more neighbors are speaking out. they don't want you to see their faces or know their names. they are concerned about the danger from the many marijuana farms that have popped up the last few years. >> there are farms. >> they do that? >> oh, yeah. >> law enforcement tells me they have had shootouts with pot farmers in these mountains, including mexican drug cartels. the neighbors showed me letters and e-mails that support they have been complaining to public officials for more than a year about the public pot farms. public safety and the environmental issues and the risk of wildfire. >> it's been for a couple years now. >> they have been drawing water out of the creek. they take their chemicals and run pvc pipe up the hill. we've seen barely anything going on to eradicate this situation. >> abc7's katie marzullo asked

the clips under public pressure and to show the shooting stance assumed by 38-year-old man. one video shows him backing away from police officer richard gonzales. it was taken from a security camera at a nearby fast-food restaurant. the second video shows another angle of the confrontation. police said he pointed a smoking device at him before they takessed and then fatally shot him. in north carolina police announced they will release full body camera and dashcam videos of the shooting of keith scott. the videos will first be viewed by scotts family sometime next week. the 43-year-old has shot and killed by officers on september 20th. police say he was armed. >> police in the east bay are work being to see if six armed robberies in six communities may be connected. sergio quintana has the details.

>> reporter: one of the first violent incidents happened in this otherwise quiet neighborhood. a resident said it all started after 10:00 p.m. tuesday night. >> i heard, bang, five shots real loud. bang, bang, bang! oh, it was a gun. then i heard a woman screaming bloody murder. >> as soon as i heard the shots, i slipped up on the edge of the bed, looked out the street and saw a car escaping down the street. >> a neighbor had just arrived home and was accosted by two men in her driveway. they opened fire on her. then started shooting at her husband, as he looked out the front door to see what was happening a. >> the woman suffered minor cuts from the glass that was blown out of her car window. her husband was uninjured. the detective on the case is trying to see if this attack is connected to a series of other similar crimes across the east bay. according to a crime bulletin published by the lafayette brings department, another case and the attack on a couple in marin da are similar to a

violent carjacking in danville and antioch and pittsburgh. the most recent was a teenager was robbed as she arrived home. >> as she began to open her driver's side door, two males approached her wearing dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. both men pointed handguns at her and demanded her to cooperate. >> it's not clear if the same two men are responsible for all the crimes. police are hoping the public can help with information. abc7 news. take a look at this, mexico's volcano erupted yesterday. you can see the lava spewing out of the volcano. it forced hundreds of evacuations. kalimais one of the country's most active eruptions with more

elsewhere, we are looking at a powerful hurricane in the atlantic. this is hurricane matthew. it's a category 4. all the color is here. it is moving to the west. it's about 300 to 400 miles south of haiti and jamaica and it will be impacting those island countries in the next several days. by late tomorrow we could see anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain for colombia and venezuela. as it moves through the caribbean, we will see anywhere from 10 to 15 inches of rain and possibly more. you can see it is heading toward the gulfstream. we will continue to watch it for you. pretty strong hurricane for you. this is san jose. quiet in the south bay where temperatures are cool. 54 degrees. but in gilroy and half moon bay, a pretty steady numbers there, as well as san francisco. 52 oakland. and still looking pretty dark out there from this vantage point. 45 santa rosa. good morning novato, fairfield

48. it's 54 concord and livermore. it was cool the past couple of days. maybe you have gotten used to that. the good news is we are going to continue to see the relative humidity come up, helping with the fires out there. low clouds and fog not with us but the high and mid-level clouds tomorrow bringing in a slight chance of showers and another system late in date on monday. cooler than average numbers continue and we will be looking at seven-day today in golden gate park. the hardly strictly bluegrass with temperatures in the low 60s. look what happens tomorrow. a chance of showers and remember our storm impact scale? bringing it back. it's going to be a 1 on the storm impact scale. we rate our systems from 1 to 5 and one indicating scattered showers. less than a tenth inch of rain and also a chance of thunderstorms. so as we go through the next hour by hour forecast into your sunday, 7:00 north of the golden gate bridge you can see a few scattered showers right on through noontime. we will keep it to the north.

increase goes into effect today. voters approved it back in june. the sales tax will now be 9%, up from 8.75. it's expected to bring in $40 million a year for the next 15 years. officials say san jose has experienced a fiscally tough last ten years and needs the money to restore services. there's only one other city with sales tax at 9%. and parts of sunnyvale starting today are off-limits to smokers. they can't smoke in any outdoor dining areas at events like farmers markets or public parks. it extends to apartment buildings, shared d balconies ad patios and shared common areas. the city wants to limit secondhand smoke exposure. governor jerry brown signed legislation mandating prison sentences for those who assault unconscious or severely intoxicated victims. yesterday the governor also signed a bill allowing more forms of sexual assault to be categorized as rape. both were inspired by the brock turner case, the swimmer who was sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

turning to the race to the white house and donald trump's rant on twitter. the republican presidential candidate tweeted early yesterday morning, quote, "did crooked hillary help check out alicia's past] to use her in the debate?" he was referring to what was brought up during monday night's debate. >> trump refused to answer questions about his late-night tweets while campaigning in michigan yesterday. trump is scheduled to be in pennsylvania later today for a rally. hillary clinton doesn't have any scheduled events today. yesterday she slammed trump about his tweets while campaigning in the swing state of florida. she said the twitter rant is proof he is unfit to be president. >> really, why does he do things like that?

this morning as details of the sex scandal unfolded. he reportedly had sex with jasmine, a 19 year old woman who went by the monica celeste guap. they are identifying her because she and her lawyers revealed her name publicly. 28-year-old perez was accused with criminal sex charges with her, who was a minor at the time. perez pleaded not guilty. the judge released him on his own reconnaissance. that angered the attorneys who were in court. >> it's a double standard. because he's a police officer he's being treated specially. if he were a black man charged with this, he would certainly have to post bail. >> perez is one were the five law enforcement officers charged by the almeda county prosecutors. they include oakland police officers and a livermore officer. one officer was arraigned a week ago on charges associated with the case. after court jasmine's lawyer

said they filed claims against six bay area cities and counties to failure to protect the young woman, who was sexually exploited. the claim is for millions of dollars. >> almeda prosecutors have yet to charge an oakland officer and another who resigned in the wake of the investigation. a third officer has been charged when his case was continued. vic lee, abc7 news. residents in san francisco's mission terrace community are trying to keep a school building on a site that's located with the last seasonal farms in the city. the farm doesn't own the land a school, called golden bridges, bought it years ago with the intention of relocating their campus there. according to the plans, the school would only have a few small structures. more than 70% of the parcel would remain an open-space area.

>> not much confidence from forecasters we will have a wet winter to help with the drought. although last winter was an el nino, this winter is what forecasters call neutral. there's no el nino that typically brings wet weather and no dry weather. >> we have essentially hu -- we have a ground water deficit. we have a surface water deficit, and we've had a snowpack deficit over the past five years. are we still in the drought? you bet we are. state officials mark yesterday as the end of the fifth straight year of drought in california, saying that a six-year is looking likely.

then we see mostly sunny conditions. look for scattered showers to arrive tomorrow. another chance of that later on in the day on monday. and cooler than average right on through next week. but temperatures will climb back slowly into the 80s. so highs today statewide, we will start with the warmest and sunniest locations with low 70s in the southern sierra. low 80s in los angeles. the dodgers are in town trying to clinch that wildcard spot for the giants -- not the dodgers. and we will be looking at a nice day for that game. but putting back the storm impact scale with a 1 for scattered showers. less than tenth of an inch. this is for your sunday. and with this instability we could see a chance of a thunderstorm. we will take you through hour by hour, starting at 7:00 in the north bay with scattered showers from point reyes up to clear lake, santa rosa. and slipping south noontime. by the afternoon to the east bay, perhaps the santa clara valley. and in santa cruz you could see

a possibility of a shower. then we clear on out with temperatures on the cool side. so anywhere from a couple hundredths or you may not see anything at all or maybe more than that. a broad-brush picture of some light isolated showers for your sunday afternoon. so the sierra nevada, we are looking at a couple inches. a winter weather advisory from tomorrow morning through monday morning. up to three inches over the passes and back to the giants wildcard spot. we want to talk about the sunshine today. it's "star wars" day there, as well. it should be a great afternoon with temperatures in the mid-60s by 4:00. highs today around the bay, another cool one. 79 in prepare mont, 71 palo alto. look at the low to mid-70s at the warmest location. 75 antioch. the accuweather seven-day forecast, upper 50s at the coast and 70s inland. a chance of a shower, a bit more sunshine by tuesday afternoon. it's breezy as we try to warm up
