good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. saturday, first of october. thanks for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. off to a cool start across the bay area. hi, lisa. >> hey, chris. good morning. it is still very cool outside and a live look in san jose, couple of clouds, but it will be pretty nice afternoon. low temperatures still below average. 53 here, as well as oakland and san francisco, and look at the peninsula right now, at the airport, no fog to cause any delays for you. santa rosa, 46, 54 in concord, golden gate bridge, noontime, all in the 60s, breezy, and highs once again, cool. it will get cooler tomorrow. we're going to mix in clouds and showers to talk about.

chris. lisa, thank you. we have breaking news out of contra costa county, interstate 80 east in crockett, happened just after 1:00. the chp says the driver was speeding when the car plowed into a highway sign and went into a field. that's when the car went down into a ravine and turned over. one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officers say it is possible alcohol was involved. more breaking news. this time out of south bay, where another crash involving a pedestrian killed one person in san jose. 1:35 this morning, northbound 101, tully road on ramp. no word on what caused it. developing news out of east bay. investigating a shooting that happened during a high school football game. it happened around 9:30 last night near james logan high school. no one was hurt. officers found someone heightid and took them into custody. they say that person is not

associated with the school. unclear how many people were involved in the shooting. police are still looking for the weapon. last night's giants game was big for the orange and black getting into the second wildcard spot. in the middle of the game, angel pagan was not amused when two people ran onto the field. pagan body slammed that man over in left field, while security took down a woman in right field. an activist group, direction action everywhere, said the man was a protesters calling attention to animal abuse. san francisco police tell us the man has been cited. abc 7 sports director, larry beil, will have game highlights later on. this massive fire at an historic berkeley church has made the building too unstable. flames started pouring out of the church on channing way yesterday afternoon. investigators say it is too dangerous to get to where the fire may have started.

abc 7 news reporter, katie shows us the damage inside and the delays you should expect this weekend. >> reporter: from sky 7, you can see fire tearing through the first congressional church of berkeley. witnesses first sported flames around 12:30. >> it started right at the base of the chimney. >> reporter: a roof collapse led to a mayday call from one firefighter, who escaped from a window. >> it was pretty terrifying. yeah, he -- you never want to hear that. >> reporter: classrooms, offices and recreational space destroyed. firefighters saved the sanctuary. >> the firefighters did an excellent job containing it. i'm so grateful for their speedy action. >> reporter: more importantly -- >> we have a school on-site and everyone was evacuated. praise god. people are much more important than property. >> reporter: heavy smoke caused the evacuation of a u.c. berkeley dorm. the alameda county heat sensing

drone helped save them hours putting out hot spots. >> invaluable. we've never had that capability on a fire, and it proved itself very, very helpful. >> reporter: street closers will cause traffic delays for the homecoming football game at cal. there is no word on the fire cause yet. but roof work was underway to install new solar panels. in berkeley, katie yutis, abc 7 news. in nevada, firefighters are making sure a vegetation fire doesn't spread. it broke out just afternoon yesterday, marin valley, but they called off the shelter in place in mid-afternoon. it is 75% contained. the loma fire in the santa cruz fire are making progress. there will be a community meeting today to discuss the updates. it starts at 10:00. the fire has burned more than 4,300 acres and 56% contained.

a dozen homes have been destroyed. abc 7 katie marzullo has more on how flying embers could ignite a new fire. >> reporter: even without visible flames, it poses a serious danger. >> wind is a huge challenge for us. embers get hot and start flying. >> reporter: the wind is coming from a new direction. >> it is going to challenge a part of the fire containment line that hasn't seen a lot of wind and embers passing through it. >> reporter: to prepare, firefighters have been working to secure those lines as crews continue to go through it. >> finding hot spots, digging them up, putting water on them. i think we're getting the upper hand, but definitely a lot of mop-up. >> reporter: scattered throughout the mountains, homes untouched by fire and those that are destroyed, a dozen so far. >> you do your best effort to protect all homes. at the same time, it is not worth anybody's life.

>> reporter: there is marijuana being grown in the santa cruz mountain. some are legal, many are not. a source tells abc 7 news says eradication teams have been sent to the fire, and the sheriff's office confirming it has an operation going forward. abc 7 i-team has learned the fire was sparked at a marijuana farm and the owner has ties to a medical marijuana dis pen searry in santa cruz. >> reporter: owning the 88 acre farm where it began. he issued a statement to his attorney, only through the abc 7 i-team. >> nothing illegal was going on on the property. no butane, no meth lab, no illegal marijuana grow. >> mark gray would not tell me if the owner what he considered to be a legal marijuana farm, saying they all want answers

about what sparked the blaze. >> we are actively trying to find out, we're actively investigating and cooperating. >> reporter: new law enforcement and cal fire sources confirm what i reported wednesday. investigators are concentrating on that farm as the origin of the fire. last month, neighbors identified the farm as a marijuana grow to me, and more neighbors are speaking out. they don't want you to know their names or see their faces. >> the thing that bothers us is the rapid fires. >> reporter: you actually hear that? >> yeah, it gets crazy sometimes. >> reporter: law enforcement tells me they've had shootouts with mexican drug cartels. the neighbors showed me letters and e-mail that support that they've been complaining to public officials about the pot forms. the public safety and environmental issues and risk of wildfire. >> this is what we've been telling the county for a couple

smoking device at him before they tased and then shot the fatal officer shooting of keith scott, videos will be first viewed by scott's family next week. the 43-year-old scott was shot and killed by an officer on september 20th. police say he was armed with a handgun, but scott's family disputes that. police in the east bay, dangerous armed robberies in six different communities may be connected. >> reporter: one of the first violent incidents happened in this otherwise quiet neighborhood. a resident says it all started just after 10:00 p.m. tuesday night. >> i heard bang, five shots, real loud, bang, bang, bang. i knew it was a gun. and all of a sudden, then i heard some woman screaming bloody murder. >> as soon as i heard the shots, i went up on the edge of the bed, looked out in the street and saw a car escaping down the

street. >> reporter: the neighbor just arrived home and a kouscausted two men. they started shooting at her husband as he looked out to see what was happening. the woman suffered minor injuries, and her husband was uninjured. the detective on the case is trying to see if this attack is connected to a series of other similar crimes across the east bay. according to a crime beautiful ten published by the lafayette police department, a couple in orinda are similar to a violent carjacking in danville, antioch and pittsburgh. the most recent in brentwood, teenage victim was robbed as she arrived home thursday night. >> as she began to open her driver's side door, two males approached her wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and pants. they both pointed handguns at her and demanded her property.
