new this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, october 2 bend. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meet lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn, good morning. hi, everyone. here's the live doppler 7. many things to talk about. and one being fog. you see it along the san mateo coast. we have the storm impact scale back and we are at a 1 today with showers. 54 san francisco. 45 and 52 mountain view and you will see numbers range from the mid-40s in santa rosa to the mid-50s in concord.

the golden gate bridge, a little batchy haze out there. overall we see partly cloudy skies to start utah start out. meantime scattered showers will push east and south and by 4:00 we will see partly cloudy condition with the giants game to talk about and more showers in the extended outlook. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. developing news. surgeons are looking for a missing kayaker in the san francisco bay. crews found his kayak but no sign of him. he was reported missing just before 6:00 last night. the unidentified man was in the water just off oyster point in south san francisco. rescuers are searching from candlestick point to the san mateo bridge. >> we have a lot of resources out there. we have a lot of well-trained folks with good technology so we are hoping for a good outcome. >> emergency crews have not

shared many details about the kayaker yet and it's not clear how long they plan to keep up the search. san jose police are look for a stabbing suspect. they were near silicon valley boulevard and highway 101. also investigators searched for evidence last night. officers said a man stumbled into is a hotel parking lot. he is expected to survive after being stabbed several times. his attacker ran away before police arrived. >> is it nine people are without homes this morning after the fire destroyed. we have the details on the quick response yesterday afternoon. >> reporter: this is video of the fire shot which a neighbor. you can see flames and thick, black smoke coming from the garage video. one neighbor said he could smell the smoke and then he heard three pops. >> almost a surreal sound.

>> we heard three explosions. three loud explosions. >> according to the fire department the explosions may have been paint cans in the garage or another item catching fire but a full investigation of of the incident is not complete. we talked to children who lived in one of the top floor apartments. they didn't want to be interviewed on camera but they ran out as soon as they smelled smoke and rescue crews didn't find anybody else home. >> they subsequent through the building two times and they are convinced no one else is inside the fire. >> the american red cross is helping to provide shelter and the corner store downstairs and also shut down, at least for the weekend. the fire in the mission was actually one of three fires in three different parts of the city that were called in about the same time. >> all three of the fires we've had, there's nothing that

appears to be serious. >> no one was injured in any of delete fires. investigators are still trying to determine the cause of each of them. in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news. members of berkeley church, a historic east bay church, has a place to worship this morning. a massive fire tore through pill gram hall that housed offices and classrooms. it collapsed the roof. they were underway to install new solar panels. the brick building is now red tagged. church leaders are vowing to rebuild. >> no earthquake, wind conditions, any shifting of debris could cause a collapse. >> this is going to be a lot of work, but i'm thinking we can do good things. >> and meanwhile the presbyterian church across the street will open their doors at

23:00 this afternoon for sunday services for those displaced by the fire. firefighters are making progress against a destructive wildfire in the santa cruz mountains. it's burned more than 4400 acres. it's 66% contained. the fire has destroyed 12 homes. abc7 news was there where dozens of people affected by the loma fire attended a meeting. they said they are happy with the progress they have made so far this weekend. >> our concern was the winds and coming from the northwest, which go right into that particular area. the lines she would so we are looking really good. >> some 600 people have been displaced by the fire. fortunately neighbors are stepping up to help them. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more from santa clara county. >> anybody and everybody that comes over gets fed. >> johnathan swift eagle arrived

at the park monday and has barely left since. she's personally managing this food and water supply station she started two hours after the loma fire erupted. >> i went out and spent $1,500 of my money the first day. i spent 1,000 the second day, and then the donations starting coming in. >> coffee, water, snacks, hot meals. it's all been pouring in. community members and strangers are answering the call for help. 12 homes and 16 buildings have been destroyed, and hundreds have been evacuated is. this gas jenna smith's home as fire surrounded it. it was spared, but her guest cottage was notice. >> it was very intense. i feel very grateful with the home we have. >> many have lost everything and they need help. that is why the volunteer fire association is trying to get mobile homes like this one donated to fire victims. >> it is important for them to

be home, and their property is home. and most of them have nowhere else to go. >> most of those impacted or staying with friends, but that can only last so long. so far only tuomo bile homes have been donated. the association is look for ten more. unfortunately not everyone has good intentions. cal fire issued this warning after scammers set up fake gofundme pages and even asked for cash, all of which was supposed to help those affected by the fire. in santa clara county, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 home. >> if you want object to help the effort to buy more mobile homes we have the paypal information on our website, abc7news.com. new this morning, santa rosa san mateo officials are warning about a possible mountain lion

sighting. of the alert department say when the sighting happened. there was a complaint and city hall listened and is you will need a special permit to park on weekend and holidays at mission peek. abc the news was at mission peek yesterday. owners complained about congestion and parking spaces disappearing by their homes. but not everyone likes the new rules. >> i respect that they need privacy, too. there is a crowd in front of their house. but this is a concern that we share. there is is a concern for the hikers out there. >> suspected violators face fines of $63. residential parking permits are required from 12:01:00 a.m. on

saturday until 11:59:00 p.m. on sunday. well, this is the first sunday of the month. how's it going? >> it's getting interesting out there. finally some showers to talking about not only today but tomorrow, as well. temperatures in the 50s average with the west wind about 11 miles an hour. a cold front marches through the bay area. we will talk about who is going to get their head wet, when and where coming up. >> and also ahead, no support for colin kaepernick's protest. how a silicon valley group plans to support him today before the 49ers game. and the statute with a statement will soon be finished in the east bay.

>> it is 5:12 on this sunday morning. welcome back, everyone. this is a live look from our golden gate bridge camera a. is rain really on the way? well, lisa will be along shortly with the full accuweather forecast. >> no one knows how it got there, but a contra costa firefighter rescued a man stuck in a storm drain in pittsburgh. they tweeted this photo of yesterday's rescue. firefighters responded when a smoke ring was reported coming from a strong area. there were cuts to his hand, as well as a bicycle in the drain under the city. pittsburgh police are now investigating if they the homels are using the system. >> and there was a cyclist who went off the road and had to be rescued with a rope. he went down 35 feet down a

steep ravine. it happened yesterday when the cyclist was going up hill slowly. firefighters said he slowed up so much the road bike tipped over near the dropoff. he went over the side and his bike stayed on the road. >> the road bikes, their feet actually attach to the pedals. . >> the cyclist went to the hospital with at least the one broken bone plus cuts and bruises. an art project is a step closer to being completed in san leandro. yesterday abc7 news was at the campus right after parts of the statue called truth is beauty arrived. you see it by the bart the station. they said burning man was the 5e

win over l.a. happening today, a kitchen cabinet of silicon valley will hold a news conference discussing their support of colin kaepernick's national anthem protest. organizers say they want to unify around issues of police violence and police community relations. they will take a knee with kaepernick in the matter of the first amendment right of public protest. it starts at 11:00 at the santa clara convention center on great america parkway. also happening today, if you are going to the 49er's game this afternoon, can bring en unopened pack of hug guess and diapers to donate for babies in need. and brian jennings will help you win tickets to a future game. it's all part of no baby unhugged. even if you are not going to the game you can still donate

hundreds of local venders' booths were lining the streets. attend december are asked to donate five dollars to ten dollars. each year the money is distributed to dozens of organizations that provide essential services to the community. the fair runs from 11:00 until 6:00. >> now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> hi there, everyone. good morning. starting out with some fog along the coast. about 5-mile visibility here. we have rain showers that will be pushing through the bay area later on this afternoon. right now it's north of ukiah. and if we put this into motion, live doppler 7 shows a funnel band pushing into extreme northern california and the southern edge of this is going to sink down and slip through the bay area. we have some much more pressing weather in the atlantic. this is matthew. a a very strong hurricane, category 4 that continues to move through the hurricane. hurricane warnings are up for jamaica, haiti and cuba, with

the impact of this coming in today and tomorrow. anywhere from 15 to 25 inches of rain. some areas could get more. of course, the storm surge, mudslides, some very, very dangerous conditions here, and it continues to right now temperatures in the 50s in san francisco, down to 45 degrees in gilroy, it's 52 mountain view. oakland at 57 degrees and sfo some clouds around, mid-40s in santa rosa. we will increase the cloud cover ahead of the front. 56 concord, 53 livermore. and it's going to take all that long to march through the bay area. a chance of showers today, they will be scattered. looking for partly cloudy late afternoon and evening. it looks like a nice second half to the giants' game or 49ers, i should say. we could see a shower around

santa clara but the giants could see a shower as you begin the game. the storm impact scale, a 1 for today and tomorrow. some areas in the north bay could pick up a little more than a tenth inch of rain. in the north bahrain showers. by noontime into the east bay and look what happens at 1:00. yes, pushing from the peninsula to the south bay and then it's out of here. breezy conditions result behind the system. winds could get gusty at times. mountain view and san jose .02-inch. but with this we still have the winter storm warning until 5:00 on monday with snow levels at 6,000 feet. slippery roads. and we will pick in up at 7:00 tomorrow because you will see the second system at 2:00 in the afternoon by the evening commute spreading more showers our way. we have a couple opportunities for some wet pavement out there. it should be slippery at times.

locally. netflix went down about 2.5 hours yesterday afternoon. no word on what caused the outage but netflix responded to twitter users who vented their frustration saying we are back. the interruption came at a bad time for the service. they just received their latest series that people were streaming this weekend. during the outage people could continue to look on smartphones and tablets. and this is video showing a beautiful site. more than 500 hot-air balloons from yesterday. it's a nine-day event that includes competitions and a special shake balloons. the theme this year and desert kaleidoscope. still to come on abc7 mornings, an angry crowd from police after a young black man is shot in

the new york times is reporting this morning that donald trump may not have paid federal taxes for years after reporting a large loss back in 1996. trump is not denying the report and has gone back on the attack against hillary clinton. abc news reporter chuck sievertson has the latest from the campaign trail. >> the new york times claimed it has obtained some of donald trump's tax records. the times said trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 tax returns, which could have allowed him to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. trump's campaign issued a statement that trump is not required to pay more in taxes than the law requires. it did not deny that he did not pay federal taxes. donald trump sought to turn hillary clinton's words about bernie sanders supporters against her. >> attacking him and his

supporters as living in their parents' basements and trapped in dead-end across. >> he said clinton wants young people to be idealistic and set big goals. bernie sanders endorsed clinton and now campaigns for her. he mentioned the late night twitter barrage where he attacked the miss universe. alicia machado was discussed in the debate. hillary clinton pounced. >> his latest twitter melt-down is unhinged even for him. it moves once again he's temperamentally unfit to be president and commander in chief. >> a new fox poll gives her a post debate bump. 61% of registered voters who saw it said she won. even so, the same poll shows the national race within three points, a virtual dead heat and that means the next debate could be make-or-break.

chuck sievertson, a about. c -- abc news. >> after the debate former new york city mayor rudy jewel yawn had any and former democratic senator bernie sanders comes to "this week." i can watch it at 8:00 this morning right here on abc7. developing news. los angeles police are inestigating after officers shot and killed an 18-year-old black man. yesterday officers tried to pull over the suspect's vehicle believing it was stolen because of its paper plates. the driver sped away and after a few blocks a passenger ran from the car. he was shot near his house right in front of his 17-year-old sister. relatives identified him. police did not say what led to the shooting, but do say he was armed with a gun. residents are questioning that account. more officers were called in to

guard the scene after an angry crowd gathered and started shouting at them. the driver of the car is still on the loose. the search for answers as there's a roadblock in the deadly train crash in new jersey sis. investigators are stuck wait to go retrieve something that could provide key information about what happened. abc news reporter as an update. >> reporter: beneath the massive tangle of steel and glass, crucial evidence in the train crash in new jersey. >> because of the unsettled structures that we aren't sure about, i'm not allowing anybody to go in there. >> at this point the sheer extent. the wreckage in new jersey is keeping investigators from trapping the main part of the crash. they want to know exactly how fast the train was going and if

the brakes were used before it slammed into the station thursday morning. >> we have multiple injuries. >> investigators already recovered one of the event recorders seen here, the one kept at the back of the train. that information now being downloaded at the manufacturer. investigators did speak with the engineer, 48-year-old toms gallagher. but there are no details on that meeting. preliminary drug and alcohol tests for him came back negative. >> so far witnesses say the train appeared to be going three times faster than normal as it approached the platform. the impact so violent, part of the station's ceiling collapsed, raining debris on the hundreds of people standing around waiting. while the ntsb wants to get access to more of the wreckage, investigators are interviewing more witnesses and reviewing multiple videos. >> our objective is, as always, to not just find out what happened by why is it happened so we can prevent it from
