we will be looking at temperatures today well below average and then we will talk about the warmup that happens by the end of the week. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. developing news this morning. searchers are looking for a missing kayaker in the san francisco bay. crews have found his kayak, but no sign of him. he was reported missing just before 6:00 last night. crews say the unidentified man was in the water off oyster point. rescuers are searching all the way down to the san mateo bridge in foster city. >> right now we are confident we have a lot of resources out there. we have a lot of well-trained folks with good technology so we are hoping for a good outcome. >> emergency crews have not shared many details about the kayaker yet, and it's not clear how long they plan to keep up the search. san jose police are looking

for a stabbing suspect. abc7 news was near silicone valley boulevard and highway 101. investigators searched for evidence last night. officers said a bleeding man stumbled into a hotel parking lot. he is expected to survive after being stabbed several times. his attacker ran away before police arrived. >> nine people are without homes this morning after a two-alarm fire in san francisco's mission district droid sure apartments. sergio quintana has details on the quick response yesterday afternoon by emergency crews. >> reporter: this is video of the fire shot by a neighbor. you can see flames and thick, black smoke coming from the garage building attached to the main structure. one neighbor said he could smell the smoke and then he heard three pops.

>> almost like a holiday sound. >> so i get a call from my father saying that he's heard three explosions, three loud explosions. he thinks it was like a pipe or something that burst >> reporter: according to the fire department, the explosions may have been paint cans in the garage or another item catching fire, but a full investigation of the incident is not complete. i talked briefly with two men who lived in one of the top-floor apartments. they didn't want to be interviewed on camera but they ran out as soon as they smelled smoke and rescue crews didn't find anybody else home. >> they went through the building two times, and we are convinced no one else is inside the building. >> the american red cross is helping to provide shelter and the corner store downstairs and also shut down, at least for the weekend. the fire in the mission was actually one of three fires in three different parts of the city that were called in about the same time. >> at this time with all theme -- three fires that we've had,

there is nothing that appears to be out of order. >> no one was injured in any of delete fires. investigators are still trying to determine the cause of each of them. in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> members of the first congregation natural church in berkeley now have somewhere to worship this afternoon after a fire gusted their historic east bay church. a fence is going up around the church that was destroyed on friday. a massive fire tore through pilgram hall that housed offers and classrooms. no word on the cause, but there was work underway on new roof solar panels. it collapsed the roof. the brick building is now red tagged. church leaders are vowing to rebuild. >> no earthquake, wind conditions, any shifting of debris could cause a collapse. >> this is going to be a lot of work, but i'm thinking we can do hard things. >> the presbyterian church across the street will open their doors at 2:00 this

afternoon for sunday services for those displaced by the fire. firefighters are making progress against a destructive wildfire in the santa cruz mountains. it's burned more than 4400 acres. it's 66% contained. the fire has destroyed 12 homes. another 160-some are in the path. abc7 news was in morgan hill where dozen of people affected by the loma fire attended a meeting at the community and cultural center. firefighters are telling them they are pleased with the progress they have made so far this weekend. >> our concern was the winds and coming from the northwest, which angle right into that particular area. the lines held, so we are looking really good. >> some 600 people have been displaced by the fire. fortunately neighbors are stepping up to help them. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more from santa clara county. >> anybody and everybody that comes over gets fed. >> jennifer swift eagle arrived at the park monday and has barely left since.

she's personally manning this food and water supply station she started two hours after the loma fire erupted. >> i went out and spent $1,500 of my money the first day. i spent 1,000 the second day, and then the donations starting coming in. >> coffee, water, snacks, hot meals. it's all been pouring in. community members and strangers are answering the call for help. 12 homes and 16 buildings have been destroyed, and hundreds have been evacuated. this was jenna garner smith's home as fire surrounded it. it was spared, but her guest cottage was not. >> it was very intense. i feel very grateful that we have what we have. >> many have lost everything and they need help. that is why the volunteer fire association is trying to get mobile homes like this one donated to fire victims. >> it is important for them to be home, and their property is home. and most of them have nowhere

else to go. >> most of those impacted are staying with friends, but that can only last so long. so far only two mobile homes have been donated. the association is looking for ten more. unfortunately not everyone has good intentions. cal fire issued this warning after scammers set up fake gofundme pages and even asked for cash, all of which was supposed to help those affected by the fire. in santa clara county, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 home. >> if you want to help the effort to buy more mobile homes for the evacuees we have the information on our website, abc7news.com. new this morning, san mateo officials are warning about a possible mountain lion sighting. they sent an alert saying someone spotted what she believed to be the animal near of the intersection of britain

avenue and almeda dala polgas in san carlos. they aren't saying when this happened. officials advise you keep your distance if you do encounter the big cat. >> neighbors complained and city hall listened, and starting this weekend you will need a special permit to park near fremont's mission peak on weekends and holidays. we were at the base as hikers climbed toward the summit yesterday. signs like these all over the streets. neighbors complained about the congestion and parking spaces disappearing near their homes. not everyone likes the new rules. >> i respect that they need privacy, too. they don't want a crowd in of their house. but it is a concerning issue. there is also a concern for the hikers. >> suspected violators face fines of $63. residential parking permits are required from 12:01 a.m. on saturday until 11:59 p.m. on sunday.

and anyone hiking or in the neighborhood is going to face a few rain showers. >> that's right. still some sun out there right now. still mild, in the low 60s also ahead, more support for colin kaepernick's protest. how a silicon valley group plans to support the quarterback before today's game. and a statue with a statement will soon be finished in the east

>> no one knows how he got there, but a contra costa firefighter rescued a man stuck in a storm drain in pittsburgh. they tweeted this photo o yesterday's rescue. firefighters responded when smoke was reported coming from a storm drain. they found a man with severe cuts to his hand, as well as a bicycle in the drain under the city. pittsburgh police are investigating if the homeless are using the system. >> and in marin county, firefighters had to use a rope system to rescue a cyclist who went off the road. he tumbled down a 35-foot steep ravine on lucas valley road.

it happened when he was going up hill slowly. firefighters said he slowed so much that the road bike tipped over near the drop-off. the cyclist was unable to brace himself because his shoes were clipped to the pedals. he went over the side and the bike stayed on the road. >> a lot of the road bikes and the mountain bikes, their feet will actually attach to the pedals. when you lose balance, you have to get them unclipped at a rapid pace. he did not. >> the cyclist went to the hospital with at least the one broken bone plus cuts and bruises. an art project is one a step closer to being completed in san leandro. yesterday abc7 news was at the tech campus right after parts of the statue called truth is beauty arrived. the statue's upper body, legs, joined the other part of the body near the bart station.

attendees are asked to donate five dollars to ten dollars. each year the money is distributed to dozens of organizations that provide essential services to the community. the fair runs from 11:00 until 6:00. >> now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning, everyone. we have a cold front on the way spawning thunderstorms off the coast. you see it being picked up on live doppler 7. the southern part of this will slip into the bay area, cloud us up and bring us some showers. already raining around geyserville. you see heelsburg here. here's the live sweep atop mount the st. helena. the heaviest concentration is in the north bay. not all of this will reach the ground as is sinks to the south. you see around highway 116 a few showers. and east of bodega bay. but i want to point out the snow. check it out west of i-5 here.

perhaps mount shasta getting snow later on today. we look at the storm impact is a scale, this is how we rate the storms from a 1 to 5, 1 being the lightest. that's what we are anticipate being today with widely scattered rain showers. most cities under a tenth of an inch of rain. and i want to update you on hurricane matthew. it's still a category 4. winds have come down from 150 miles to 160 miles and this is the path. it moves slowly to the west and continues to move to the north. the potential impacts are going to be intense on jamaica and haiti. within the next 24 hours we will begin to see the heavy rains and mudslides, anywhere from 10 to 20 inches in expected in haiti and parts of jamaica and cuba, where we are looking at hurricane warnings for all of those cities. it continues to move up to the gulfstream. the waters are very warm. it can strengthen and threaten parts of the carolinas later in

the week. we will keep you updated on that. right now we are looking at the clouds. 57 san francisco, 58 san jose. half moon bay in the 50s. clouds moving to the north bay. low 60s in novato. still sunny in the south bay. we will look for the chance of showers today. starting out in the north ba i and becoming partly cloudy. breezy throughout the later afternoon and evening. a second system moves in tomorrow. hour by hour this is what you can expect. in the north bay some showers and by noontime you will start to see some clearing. but that's when we can see rain from vallejo to emeryville, 1:00. just in times perhaps tailgate fourth sure. you can get wet around santa clara but it will be a quick mover and you won't see the rain hold together for very long. so the snow will turn to rain above 6,000 feet, about 3 inches through 35:00 tomorrow. here's the second system.

large loss back in 1996. trump is not denying the report and has gone back on the attack against hillary clinton. abc news reporter chuck sievertson has the latest from the campaign trail. >> the new york times claimed it has obtained some of donald trump's tax records. the times said trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 tax returns, which could have allowed him to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. trump's campaign issued a statement that trump is not required to pay more in taxes than the law requires. >> the deduction so large it could have allowed trump to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. trump didn't deny it on last week's debate stage. >> they showed he didn't pay any federal income tax. >> that makes me smart. >> and he isn't denying it now. his campaign saying in a statement that mr. trump it a highly skilled businessman who has a fiduciary responsibility to his business, his family and his employees to pay no more tax

the shooting, but do say he was armed with a gun. residents are questioning that account. more officers were called in to guard the scene after an angry crowd gathered and started shouting at them. the driver of the car is still on the loose. the search for answers has hit a roadblock in the deadly train crash in new jersey. investigators are waiting to find something about key information about what could have happened. we have an update. >> reporter: beneath the massive tangle of steel and glass, crucial evidence in the train crash that killed one person and injured 114 others. >> because of the asbestos and the other structures that we are not sure about, i'm not allowing anybody to go in there. >> at this point the damage from

the accident is keeping investigators from investigating even the main part of the crash. trapped down there is is a forward facing camera. they want to know exactly how fast the train was going and if the brakes were used before it slammed into the station thursday morning. >> we have multiple walking wounded. >> investigators already recovered one of the event recorders seen here, the one kept at the back of the train. that information now being downloaded at the manufacturer. investigators did speak with the engineer, 48-year-old tom gallagher. but there are no details on that meeting. preliminary drug and alcohol tests for him came back negative. >> so far witnesses say the train appeared to be going three times faster than normal as it approached the platform. the impact so violent, part of the station's ceiling collapsed, raining debris down on the hundreds of people standing around waiting. while the ntsb wants to get access to more of the wreckage, investigators are interviewing more witnesses and reviewing multiple videos. >> our objective is, as always,

to not just find out what happened, but why it happened so we can prevent it from happening again. abc news, new york. technology can't stop earthquakes, as you know, but it can play a role in forecasting when one might hit. seismologists want be to know in these small ripples in california salt and sea might tell them when the big one might be coming. they are concerned about the effects on the san andreas fault. experts say the san andreas is overdue for a major quake. >> each earthquake is a little change in stress and a little poke on all the faults around it. and we have this really big cat there that will eventually push it over the cliff. each little one isn't enough to do it alone but you add them up enough of them. >> california has moved a step closer to developing an early warning system.

>> breaking news, the coast guard said the body body of that missing kayaker was found early this morning south of the san mateo bridge. we told you about this at the top of our newscast. last night crews discovered his kayak shortly after the man was reported missing. rescuers were searching from candlestick point august the way down to the san mateo bridge. the man's identity is not being released.

again, they have found his body. of the almeda county fire department is in the process of notifying his next-of-kin. happening today, the blue angels will arrive in the bay area for fleet week. yesterday the blue angels had to cancel their show in sacramento because their flight leader became sick. but the san francisco show is expected to go on as planned this week, starting on thursday. the blue angels will arrive at oakland international airport at 6:00 tonight and the uss san diego will also arrive today at the mariposa yacht club in san francisco. lisa, they usually need those clear skies in order to do those aerobatics. >> you are right. they will get that by the end of the week. between now and then we have several weak weather systems. people and me if they need umbrellas for the hardly had strictly, and the answer is you might want to bring it but you might not even use it because

it means light precip. not everyone will see it. it will be widely scattered. most cities under a tenth of an inch of rain. thunderstorms mainly north of i-80 in the valley there. the south bay, you will see some clouds. you will also see a breezy afternoon but it should be really nice for the game today. 58 right now. 57 in gilroy. 62 oakland. san francisco sits at 67. emeryville, look at all the clouds here. fog too in the higher elevations. winds have been gusty there. 63 concord. and finally from mt. tam this, is where the winds have been up to 20 and 30 miles an hour. once again throughout the afternoon we are going to look for breezy conditions behind the first system. then we get partly cloudy. there's a second system and maybe a couple hundredths. not promises much but the best news are the cooler than average temperatures. as much as 10 to 15 degrees cooler than average to help with the fires down south. santa rosa will pick up a little bit. as we go through the afternoon you see it kind of marches to the east. it falls apart as it goes to the

livermore valley. looks like just some clouds. i wouldn't be surprised if most of you don't pick up anything tall. rainfalls totals have backed off in the bay. the sierra nevada, when we are getting this sort of system so early in the year, it's pretty strong. we are looking at snow, up to 3 inches above 6,000 feet. if you are traveling in the high country, it could be slick there. tomorrow morning cloudy. no problems in terms. wet weather. by the afternoon north bay could see some showers and then the afternoon commute could get a little slick in san francisco, over in oakland and around 680, as well. that's the second system. 12:05 game time. look for clouds and maybe a sprinkle. it will be sunny and breezy at at&t park. breezy along the coast. and highs here, bikes it's going to be a cool one out there with more clouds mixed in with some sunshie, and then looking into the south bay numbers here, average high should be well into

the 70s. but it gets so hot there at levi's stadium, it should be a nice afternoon. the accuweather seven-day forecast, scattered showers both days in the morning and the north bay and then we will be sunny by 1:00 not forth bay. the rest of the bay area we see the clouds and maybe a sprinkle throughout the afternoon. then tomorrow another weak system. we have it all behind us by tuesday. increasing sunshine. the models have been flipping and propping -- flopping from the warmer weather to the changes the end of the week >> it seems like the system is starting to weaken a bit? >> looks like it, yeah. >> thank you, lisa. the historic home where mrs. doubt fire was filmed is up for sale.
