live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> from hail to snow and to rain, northern california saw a bit of everything today, and more rain could be coming tomorrow. looking live from our emeryville camera where commuters are starting their workweek, they may have to deal with slick roads for the first time in quite awhile. good evening. i'm eric thomas and thanks for joining us. the bay area saw its first measurable rainfall in months and more could be coming tomorrow. let's get to drew. >> eric, the rain we saw earlier today primarily fell in the first half of the day. whenner we did -- where we did find it there was a 10th of an inch of moisture. they are scanning the skies and are empty handed. the next storm is rapidly approaching the cost. it is a cold front bringing rain off the coast of eureka. live doppler 7 showing you the

returns. you will want to grab the rain jacket. you won't necessarily need it for the morning. we'll have mostly cloudy and a cool start. but by the afternoon that's when the wet weather moves into the picture and the scattered showers will pop up. the storm impact scale will come back. we rank them from one to five. one is light and five is severe. we'll talk about how much rain you can expect and when you can expect the rain where you live. that's in the full accu-weather seven-day forecast. eric? >> eric: the san francisco police department is looking at a suspicious package in potrero hill. this is near 16th street and potrero avenue. the streets have been closed to cars and pedestrians in the bomb squad called out to look at the package and determine whether it is a threat. police say they were alerted to the package at 10:00 tonight. we will keep monitoring the situation and bring you updates as they happen. concord police are trying to

find the person who fired shots at their headquarters late last night. dispatchers and officers were working inside when they heard the gunfire. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is live at concord police headquarters with the story. lilian? >> reporter: eric, no one was hurt, but disconcerted at best. that's based on what police can tell from the damage. >> we just heard a bunch of bangs out front and now we are getting reports of shots fired from a vehicle. >> reporter: dispatchers heard the gunshots. they were on the third floor while officers and employees in the record's office were two floors below. >> it is unknown what is going, but we are getting multiple calls. >> it appears the person shot twice striking the pillars pillars and second floor windows. they were out taking measurements. as well as searching the median for evidence. concord police say based on what witnesses heard, the

person responsible sped away moments after the gunshots. >> this is a brazen act for somebody to shoot at a police department. we are looking at whether they were the intended target or if this was somebody shooting at another person or vehicle. >> reporter: if they were the intended target they do not believe it is related to anti-pleasant meant. they hope businesses with security cameras will help with the investigation. em -- employees by the doggie daycare say they have not been approached by police, but would be happy to hand over their video. >> i am glad no stray bullets came this way or anything and everybody is safe. >> reporter: concord police say at the least the person responsible faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm. in concord, lilian kim, abc7 news. >> eric: in berkeley, worshipers at the first

congregation church of berkeley held sunday services next door. abc7 news was at the first presbyterian church. the congregation fed their neighbors a brunch and hosted them in the afternoon. this follows a devastating friday afternoon fire that left part of the first congregational church red tagged. the fire tore through the hall which houses offices and classrooms. >> there is a lot of water in the sanctuary. we will have to replace the plaster and the sheet rock. that's months long i'm sure. >> the cause of the fire is under investigation, but roof work was underway. a go fund me page was set up for rebuilding. >> eric: a live look where you can see coit tower is lit up in orange. that's to help celebrate the win by the giants. it is sending them to a wild card game this week in new york. abc7 news reporter sergio was there for the big win.

>> the giants are the wild card team. >> following that play the stands erupted in celebration. among those in the crowd, three generations of giants fans from the hukins wilson family. >> he's been to every opening day since he was born. >> it was a great win for the giants. >> what does the win mean? >> it means we can go to a wild card game and if we go to that we go to the playoffs. >> his mom started bringing him before he was one year old so he and other hard core fans can expect another world series run. >> we have done it in 2012 and 2016. >> in the locker room the champagne was blowing and players celebrated a late season surge. >> it feels good. especially the ups and the downs. struggled quite a bit. >> in case you're wondering the dodgers weren't too

worried about today's game. the dodgers did lose this game, but every dodgers' fan i talked to say they are not that sad. they clinched their playoff spot a couple weeks ago. the giants will be playing the mets in new york for the wild card match up. until then it is fireworks and fanfare for today's win. >> today's game was the last day on-the-job for a man many baseball fans fondly call the sound track of summer. dodgers broadcast -- broad quester vin scully had his last show. >> it is time for giant-dodger baseball, the greatest rivalry in all of professional sports. >> scully has described many of the pivotal moments in the giants-dodgers rivalry first in new york city and since 1958, here in california. >> in 1951 i think most

baseball fans know the famous homerun by bobbie thompson in the polo grounds to give the giants the national league pennant. >> many fans bleeding giants orange and some dodger blue came to at&t park to root on their tombs and salute scully. >> i am not a dodgers fan, but he is spectacular. >> he is able to tell you a story throughout the game that you might not know. >> although scully is best known for his work with the dodgers he also worked on the national tv broadcasts of big moments for bay area fans. >> he was calling the 49er game when the montana to clark pass. >> abc7 sports anchor shumann played for them on that day. >> i think i was more excited that vinscully said my name on the air than i did the catch. >> he let the roar of the crowd capture the moment. >> i have said enough for a

lifetime, and for the last time i wish you all a very pleasant good afternoon. >> and when asked who he thought was the best baseball player he ever saw, scully said giants legend and hall of famer willie mays. that is the sound of fleet week roaring in. the blue angels landed at their home for the next week at oakland airport. they will be training for this week's fleet week airshow. the annual celebration is honoring america's armed forces and it includes military ships. the first of which sailed in the san francisco bay earlier today. san francisco is glowing blue to welcome the blue angels to town. the lights on the embarcadero are illuminated. a bright welcome ahead of a busy week for the team.

family emergency. i have to stop the show. >> eric: i just heard kanye west cut a concert show at new york city field in queens. tonight's abrupt end came after west learned his wife, kim kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room in paris. kardashian is in france for fashion week in paris. she was not hurt. >> eric: now to the race to the white house. hillary clinton nabbed lebron james' endorsement as donald trump responded to a "new york times" report that he may have avoided paying taxes for years. "the times" revealed portions of his taxes showing more than $900 million in losses. that deduction is so large that it could have allowed trump to avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. the former presidential candidate bernie sanders expressed why many find this frustrating. >> trump goes around saying, hey, i'm worth billions. i am a successful businessman. i don't pay any taxes.

but you make $15 an hour. you pay the taxes, not me. that's why people are angry and want real change in this country. >> eric: trump responded to the story saying i know our complex tax laws better than anyone who has ever run for president and i am the only one who can fix them. >> eric: demonstrators stood in solidarity as he continued his protest of social injustice during the national anthem. abc news reporter uh less saw harrington has more. >> as fans came to nissan stadium they raised a fist and stood a prayer. they gathered across the street to support colin kaepernick. his protest against his first amendment right to free speech. >> at least 15 black people have been killed since colin began his protest. >> reporter: members of silicon valley black community groups, churches and advocacy groups came together to raise awareness about police shootings. they held signs with names of

people killed. >> we cannot remain silent on this issue. >> even though in the white community this may not directly affect you, this is also your responsibility because you are an american citizen. if you are not avidly trying to create positive change and bring about justice you are part of the problem. >> reporter: supporters praised colin kaepernick for starting a national conversation. at sunday's game once again he and two teammates took a knee during the national anthem. and once again that disetion got a strong reaction. >> everybody needs to understand where he is coming from. >> let me tell you something. cowboys are america's team. >> he is an american. he can always stand for the national anthem. >> i think the people who make an issue about the military and the flag and him protesting just are trying to avoid the real issues we have in society. we have some real issues. >> reporter: advocates hope to move these issues forward and come up with real solutions. >> even though the 49ers didn't win today the group

praised the organization and certain players for highlighting issues of policing and equality. in santa clara, abc7 news. >> eric: the wife of late actor robin williams is sharing the details that lead to his suicide. the essay was published this week by the journal neurology. in it she writes, quote, i will never know the true depth of his suffering nor how hard he was fighting. but from where i stood i see the bravest man in the world playing the hardest role of his life. she did not know he suffered from lbd, a little known brain disease that leads to memory loss, dilutions, hallucinations and other brain problems. it was only after his suicide that his family discovered his condition. >> eric: on to the weather now and winter is coming tonight in the sierra. keep tahoe blue and it is snowing for the first time in south tahoe today.

squaw valley resort posted a photo to twitter with the snow stacking up near one of its lifts and snacking up too. you have to keep yourself healthy. >> there are a lot of winter lovers smiling at pictures like that. >> waxing up the skis. drew is here with a look at the forecast. >> we are anticipating more wet weather to move in. all is quiet after the morning showers we had today. right now we are generally dealing with clear skies. we'll take you to tahoe where we have a couple of showers in effect. they are winding down overnight tonight take you outside to our east bay hills camera. a beautiful shot of the bay and san francisco. you can see the embarcadero in blue as we welcome fleet week. it will be a nice week with the wet weather moving in. out there right now the numbers have fallen into the 50s. 56 in san francisco and 58 in hayward.

56 in livermore and right along the coast you do notice it is rather cool at 50 degrees. we will have a cool night on the way tonight. a lot of spots likely dropping to the 40s away from the bay like the north bay and even along the coast. half moon bay will drop to the upper 40s. elsewhere low to mid50s are your starting temperatures as you step out the door. we bring back the storm impact scale. we rank our storms from one which is light to five the most severe. this is an early season storm. it is a one on our storm impact scale and it will bring wet weather on monday. very similar to how it happened today. most cities under a 10th of an inch of moisture. it is more of the timing with this system. watch the stamp in the corner of the screen. we start off 7:00 in the morning and you wake up to overcast skies. not a bright start to the day. the action ramps up in the early action. we will start to see wet weather developing primarily

in the north bay north of the golden gate. by 4:00 that's when the activity expands in nature. there is a peppering of showers and you notice the future weather showing you greens on the screen and not just light rain. we are not anticipating heavy downpours. the wet weather will stick around even into the evening hours. by 10:00 we will be tracking showers and even a little for tuesday morning. 5:00 could see a lingering shower. as the showers move through you can track them in the palm of your hand. live doppler 7 on the abc7 news app. we will notice a cool day. temperatures are well below normal for this time of year. 60 the high in san rafael and the same in san francisco. 63 in oakland and 67 san jose and fairfield and up to 65 degrees. this is not the weather you like, then you'll like friday. future tracker temperature shows we flip the script. it is sunny and warmer. we call it an october beautiy to round out the work. we have uh lote of 70s and 80s -- we have a lot of 70s and 80s making a

second wild card spot in the national league by sweeping the dodgers with a victory in the final game of the season. the giants wasted no time. bottom of first and two-run single and 2-0 giants. the rotation has been solid. matt moore is no exception. eight innings and struck out six. had help from connor gillespie and makes the phenomenal catch. we go top of 9. sergio romo gets him to fly out to left. another year the giants are back in the playoffs. 7-1 the final and they will face the mets for the wild card on wednesday. >> it was a grind trying to get in the second hoof. second half. i thought we had to win out. i couldn't be prouder. >> we got strong minded people. very mentally tough. a lot of guys have belief. a lot of guys know what it

shots were fired. no one was hurt. based on what witnesses heard the person responsible sped away in a car moments after the gunshots. a big afternoon at at&t park. the san francisco giants swept the l.a. dodgers at home this afternoon allowing them to clinch a national league wild card spot. they will face the new york mets for a decisive wild card playoff game. it was the last for legendary broadcaster vin scully. he finished his 67th season and in his words 80 words to the day he fell in love with baseball as a little boy. his tenure with the dodgers is a record in professional sports. donald trump is not denying a report based on his income tax returns. someone leaked the information to them after trump's repeated refusals to make them public. the report does not say trump cheated on his taxes, but it has given the clinton campaign

some potential powerful ammunition. devin dwyer has the story. >> reporter: as donald trump refuses to release his tax returns the "new york times" now says that may be because he has nothing to hide. nothing as in no federal income taxes. the times reports that someone anonymously mailed them pages from the 1995 state tax returns with a staggering $inane 16 million loss apparently from the collapse of his atlantic city casinos, airline and new york plaza hotel. a loss so large trump could have paid no federal income taxes for 18 years according to the times. hillary clinton suggested as much in the first presidential debate. >> maybe he doesn't want the american people, all of you watching tonight, to know that he has paid nothing in federal taxes. >> that makes me smart. >> reporter: clinton's campaign says now that the gig is up, why doesn't he release his returns to show us all how

new year to those celebrating rosh hashanah. a powerful storm is working toward the caribbean and making a direct hit on haiti tomorrow. hurricane warnings for nearby jamaica and a u.s. land fall is not out of the question. geo benitez is in kingston, jamaica with the story. >> reporter: here in kingston, jamaica, the first bands started moving in. we saw the heavy rain and we have seen some flooding even within just half an hour of it starting to rain. incredible intoeding. incredible flooding. the real concern is in haiti. it looks like the worst of the storm will hit that island that was ravaged by the earthquake and still recovering. now they will be hit with this major, major storm. what they're concerned about now is mudslide and the major, major, major rainfall in haiti. the rain is more of a threat than the wind there.

we are watching that and the state department warned all-americans to get out now saying time is limited for a safe departure. geo benitez, abc news, kingston, jamaica. >> let's find out where hurricane matthew is. >> and we have a slew of watches and warnings across the caribbean. it will bring inned with and a lot -- it will bring wind and a lot of rain. a tropical storm warning and we have a hurricane watch. we have hurricane matthew a category four and winds are 145 miles per hour. we'll cross over haiti as a category four storm. anywhere from 15 to 25 inches of rain will fall as the storm passes by. it makes its way to the bahamas on wednesday night as a major category 3 storm. the question is will it hit the east coast or not. one model does take it to the east coast and another takes
