withdraw from the debate. we will tell advice tomorrow's debate right here on abc7. our coverage begins at 6:00. in contra costa county, fire investigators are looking at how a three alarm fired at an apartment building. it happened at 9:30 last night in concord. they rescued a cat from one of the units. neighbors reported hearing explosions. propane tanks on the balcony with are the fire started could have made the pops where they heard those. two were treated but they did not have to go to the hospital. one man is dead after a shooting in san francisco. it was over the ingleside district last night. two men were shot outside of a barbershop. a man in his 20s died. another man was in his 50s and taken to the hospital. lots the of people living in the sunset district in san francisco saw a two-alarm fire.

they posted this video showing the smoke reporting from the back of the home near 21st avenue. sky 7 was over the area minutes later. three people were hurt. in the east bay surgeries are being fired at a fire forced patients out of hospital rating rooms. flames broke out inside a second story boiler room yesterday afternoon. abc7 news reporter katie has more. >> it smelled like a gas or a chemical smell. we started getting a little light-headed. >> light-headed? >> yeah, it feels scary. >> and raised blood pressure as people prepping for surgery evacuated the contra costa county health center. >> we were on the second floor and she was gettin her gown on and we were getting ready and prepared and then the fire alarms went on. >> fire filled the boiler room in the middle of the hospital. >> you are always worried about the smoke and in this case it was a fuel-fed fire, meaning the

boilers themselves are powered by both natural gas and diesel fuel. two patients were able to complete their surgeries safely and effective. they were recovered on the third floor instead of the second floor. >> as firefighters extinguished the flames, nine units evacuated to safer areas of the hospital. the building is constructed for emergencies. >> there are fire barriers and smoke barriers designed to hold the fire at bay for up to two hours. >> the hospital closed to emergency patients for more than four hours and diverted people to concord. once pg&e restored gas service, the hospital reopened. no one was injured. abc7 news. in fremont police are still on a scaled-back search for a woman this morning. sky 7 was over the search in the sundale neighborhood yesterday afternoon. the woman and three others are accused of stealing a woman's purse at gunpoint.

san francisco's chinatown community development center celebrated the life of rose pak last night. they planned the event to honor her months ago but after she died last month they decided to throw the gala anyway to celebrate her memory. vic lee served as the emcee for the event. mayor edwards lee was also in attendance. >> fun in the things she did. she found fun in the people that she worked with, and the way she celebrated. >> the chinatown group worked with her for 30 years helping to save tenants and business on stockton street who were faced with eviction. residents of one east bay neighborhood are angry and they want action from east bay mud claiming the utility failed to repair a landslide that happened on their property seven months ago. they even filed a lawsuit.

>> abc7 news obtained a copy. the report. in it the geotechnical expert warns, quote, additional and potentially more significant movements could occur if the landslide is not stabilized. two months later the entire hillside gave way. >> the slide is a complicated one. >> andrea is a spokesperson for east bay mud, which is now being sued by the homeowners. >> what we have learned since it occurred in march is it's a mapped nationally occurring historical slide area that predates the houses that are there. so what we've been doing right now is it to monitor the slides to see if there's any movement. we will continue to do that in the winter. >> they are just walk ache way from us and wish maybe we will go away, and we might. we might slide all the way down that hill. >> east bay mud has put plastic sheeting over the area but there are no plans to perform any repairs anytime soon. abc the 7 news.

>> now to hurricane matthew. powerful winds, storm surges and torrential rain has hit the southeast coast this morning. more than 1 million people have lost power in florida. we are live in florida with the latest. >> good morning. matthew bringing tornado watches to parts of the carolinas. it's crazy to imagine 24 hours ago winds were so strong you could barely walk. the storm downing trees, and it continues moving north. >> the deadly hurricane wreaking havoc as it moves up the coast. overnight matthew bringing rain, storm surge and destruction to south carolina. flooding roads, downing trees and driving cars off the road. an eerie light show on this highway as multiple lights explode. the category 2 hurricane has

category 1. you see as it would be else along the south carolina coast, the last wind gust overnight in hilton head was 87 miles an hour. they are looking at anywhere from a foot of rain. you see the carolina coast and into north carolinay they had some tornado watches. that continues. until noon we are looking at dicey weather along the carolinas. it's 60 miles south of charleston. the track of it takes it along the coast here allowing for 50 to 60 miles per hour winds by wilmington, delaware. then it goes out to sea by the afternoon dome and it kind of takes a turn. lax like a tropical system off the coast of the bahamas. no forecasts yet of it moving back into florida, but the rough weather right through noon tomorrow. we are looking for blue skies here for the blue angels and much, much cooler. i talked about the possibility

of rain into next week. so beach hazard statement tonight into tomorrow, large breakers. four to five-foot waves here, the current wave heights and strong rip currents. in the 80s yesterday at half moon bay. for the blue angels today its just as warm. 860 today san francisco. the airshow 12 to 4. today will be the warmer day. it will be cooler. then for columbus day temperatures even cooler in the 70s. so around the bay, yeah, 80 degrees again half moon bay, san francisco. 82 san mateo, 87 palo alto. 88 san jose. and a quick look at the cool-down for sunday. still keeps us warm, in the mid-70s for oakland. the cooling breeze continues for columbus day. then look what happens tuesday. if we continue this outlook into next weekend, this is the 15th, we are looking at rain that wants to visit us. this is a whole week out. but just enough to get you excited from the flip-flop we will do from the 90s today,

>> it appears the new chip credit cards are working. retailers accepting the chip cards are seeing fraud go down by nearly half. "7 on your side" michael finney has been keeping track of the chip card rollout and has good news for consumers. >> the new chip credit cards are more secure, but consumers complain they take too long to use. >> i think the technology has a little ways to go yet. it's a little slow and a little cumbersome. >> she was shopping at half moon bay when we talked. i had some good news. and here's the thing that's done. this store here is one of the first with new software. rather than taking almost ten second for a chip card, it will do it in 2 1/2 seconds. >> we will see. here's a live look. how warm will it be today? look at the numbers. 60 san francisco, 48 gilroy. 57 mountain view. shorter nights and we are cooling off no matter how warm we get in the afternoon. it's the spare the air alert today. upper 40s novato and fairfield and 57 concord. we will look for temperatures today to come into the upper 70s by noontime. the one coming up at 7:12. mid-70s to the mid-90s by the middle of the afternoon. we are still holding on to the 80s by 7:00. so we are looking at not only a warm day today, but a spare the air alert with our inland east bay once again well into the 90s. so poor air quality. but things change as soon as the second half of the weekend. it will be above average but cooler. we will talk about the cool-down and a much, much cooler outlook for the next seven days. that's coming up. chris >> thank you. the most popular state park in

moorhead city. looking at dangerous conditions. we will continue to watch this with winds of 50 to 80 miles an hour. a hurricane warning. as the eye stays offshore, its the eye wall with the water being pushed along the coast. you are looking at the storm surge and eventually this goes out to sea tomorrow more than. looks like it's coming back down toward the bahamas into the middle of next week. right now we are looking at fog-free conditions around the bay area. and temperatures are ranging from the cool side in the 40s half moon bay, 48 gilroy, 55 san jose. 57 oakland and 60 in san francisco. and our roof camera, it's going to be a warm day here once again. always is for blue angels. 49 santa rosa, 157 concord, 51 livermore. we cool off so quickly at night. from our sutro tower camera, great weather for absolute angels. fleet week, blue a skies. we see a few high clouds, cooler conditions tomorrow but much, much cooler this time next week.
