>> good morning, it's october 9th, sunday. i'm chris wisconsin. lisa argen is here with the weather. >> good morning. >> hello, chris. no fog to speak of, but right along the coast. the source of our cooling today at the coast, and locally around the bay, 57 in san jose. 48 gilroy. half moon bay a chilly 43. look at this, no fog from sutro. 50 santa rosa, as well as novato and 52 in livermore. the forecast calls for temperatures to climb into the 60s and 70s by noontime. but we are cooler at the coast. high clouds around the bay. a few degrees cooler immediately around the bay. we will talk about that warmth inland for another day. and a look at the extended outlook coming up. chris. >> lisa, thank you. two children are in critical condition this morning after a terrifying scene in the san francisco bay. a yacht capsized with 30 people on board right after the blue angels finished their show for

fleet week. abc7's lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> oh, my god! >> reporter: this is go pro video taken moments after the motorboat went over. those on board the nearby fishing boat, "happy days," rushed to help. >> i was on the side and then it flipped all the way over. and then while people were clinging to the hull, and then the stern of the boat went down. >> people were in the water already and the boat was going down. people up screaming. >> crewmembers threw life jackets to those in the water. >> there's a baby in the water. there's a baby needing cpr! >> reporter: it turned out the child needing cpr was just five years old and was trapped under the boat with his father. >> it was a rescue by somebody on the boat that went down to get the people out. >> another passenger climbed on top of the boat to help with the child, who was unconscious. there was a total of three kids on board. watching them struggle really left an impact on this long-time sailor.

>> there were so many kids on the boat. that's what really got to me. >> there were 27 adults on board. they were cold, wet. >> i'm fine. >> but for the most part unharmed. five adults and all three children were taken to the hospital. two children, including the one requiring cpr, are in critical condition. in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. we sent out a push alert right after the rescue began. to stay on top of this story, be sure to download our abc7 news app and enable push alerts. we have news out of palm springs. police officers escorted the caskets of two colleagues to a waiting hearse. the suspect is now in custody. police arrested an unidentified man. the two officers were shot and killed while trying to assist with a family disturbance.

>> our employees are broken. if there's ever a time to pray for palm springs pd, it's now. >> it was a simply family disturbance, and he elected to open fire on the field of guardians in this city. >> a third officer was shot and wounded, but will survive. vega was planning to retire in december and the other officer just returned to active duty following the birth of a daughter. look what happened in the east bay. this s.u.v. crashed into a house in oakland. it happened off the 880 high street exit. it's apparently the wall into the home's kitchen you see there. brings said the the driver did stay at the scene, but the man was hospitalized. no word on his condition. apparently this is the second time a car has crashed into the home in the past few months >> the second presidential debate are set for tonight and the stakes are just higher than

just a few days ago. experts say that donald trump has to somehow recover from the devastating audio tapes that have him degrading women. and for hillary clinton it's about not making any mistakes. we have more from st. louis. >> it's the show down in st. louis. it could be make-or-break for donald trump after a bombshell friday night. a lewd and graphic recording from 2005, first reported by the washington post. the billionaire caught on a hot mic talking with billy bush with. talkingabout an attempt to sleep with a married woman. >> i moved on her, and i failed. i'll admit it. she was married. >> he later brags that his status as a celebrity gives him a free pass to grope women. >> grab them by the [bleep]. >> hillary clinton tweeted this is horrific. we cannot allow this man to become president. is this trump's last chance to turn things around? >> forget that. give me a break. do you really think that hillary clinton is debate prepping for three or four days? hillary clinton is resting. >> trump's campaign insists he

second presidential debate in st. louis. abc's martha raddatz will co-moderate the debate between trump and clinton. our coverage begins at 6:00. you can also stream it on the abc7 news app. >> hurricane matthew is a post tropical storm but continues to drench the east coast with pounding rains and high winds. some businesses burned to the ground and large sink holes have opened up in orlando, florida. at least 13 deaths are blamed so far on matthew, six in florida, four in georgia and three in north carolina. some business owners have total devastation. >> now it's gone like overnight. >> i never expected this. this is horrible. this is my worst nightmare. it really is. insurance losses from the storm are expected to run between $4 billion and $6 billion. meanwhile, haiti has become the definition of misery. the death count from hurricane matthew now stands at almost 900, including 13 killed by

cholera, and the disease is spreading. that number will likely rise as more information comes in from areas of the island nation that have been cutoff. matthew's winds ripped off the roofs of shacks and palm trees on its way to the island. >> air travelers still face delays and cancellations through to hurricane matthew. airlines have grounded about 4500 flight since wednesday. airports in florida have started to reopen. you can see flight aware's misery map here with green showing on-time flights and red indicating where you are likely to be delayed or have your flight cancelled. locally airlines cancelled two flights between sfo and florida yesterday. there are no cancellations this morning. meteorologist lisa argen is tracking where matthew is right now. hi, lisa. >> hi, chris, good morning to you. here's the system. it's an extra tropical low but we are dealing with the effects with rain and wind throughout the eastern seaboard. as we take a look closer at the

watches and warnings, look at raleigh. this is over two hours from the coast and a flood warning exists throughout the day here and a wind advisory in charlotte, north carolina. you see the red there, there's a tropical storm warning along the shoreline of north carolina. we go further to the north, and this is the rain impacting not only norfolk, washington, d.c., new york with wind gusts of over 30 miles an hour. so this will continue to track to the north and east, affecting coastal new england by later on today. remember, this started back in the bahamas, haiti, jamaica and now all the way up to new england this afternoon. chris >> lisa, thank you. an apparent accidental shooting landed a petaluma child in the hospital. there was a report of a child being shot inside a home last night. child was rushed to santa rosa memorial hospital and then flown to children's hospital in oakland. doctors say the child is expected to survive. as of now the investigators say they have no plans to make any arrests.

a car with two people inside plunged into the water off treasure island. firefighters and the coast guard were called to the scene last night. blitz say the driver was speeding when she lost control of her mercedes. it went into about four feet of water. the driver and passenger managed to walk away and were taken to the hospital. neither appeared to have serious injuries. police say the driver will be charged with drunk driving. fleet week festivities continue today after a night of fireworks. the airshow begins at noon and the blue angels take center stage at 3:00 p.m. [jets roaring] that was the scene yesterday. the sound of jet engines buzzed the marina green and other spots along the city's waterfront. america's top naval aviators defy gravity and thrill onlookers. >> i'm from san diego so i have seen the planes, the blue angels, a couple of times. but i'm pretty excited to see it in a new city.

relatives are grieving and neighbors are outraged after an elderly south bay woman passed aid way yesterday weeks after she was the victim of a home invasion robbery. ms. flo had been there for months. been in the hospital for months. >> our hearts are broken. >> relatives of coping with the loss of their beloved mate try -- be matery arc, lovingly known as ms. flo. >> some are crushed and others are angry she was subject to such a brutal beating and basically murdered. >> ms. flo succumbed to her injuries after fighting for her life for weeks. she was beaten during a home invasion robbery on september 12th. a 19-year-old, who police say lived in the same neighborhood, was arrested for the crime and is now facing a new charge. >> we definitely support him

being charged with murder. it will be up to the district attorney to amend the charges, but we are proceeding as a murder investigation. >> ms. flo was a pillar in her church and community. candles are lit and signs hang by her home, wishing her a speedy recovery. >> we all had a lot of hope. definitely had a lot of hope. >> chris lives next door. >> she always had a smile. she always had a wave. >> even at 88 she never helped stopping others and never stopped working as a hairstylist. >> even the day before she was attacked, she was still doing hair in her home. so she had worked all her life. and to have that snatched and robbed of that, of her independent life, it's just really awful. >> a gofundme account for ms. flo has raised more than $8,000. the family said it will now help with her funeral expenses. abc7 news. >> and that gofundme page that

"consumer reports" has advice now to help you take control of your personal information. 7 on your side's michael finney reports. >> it can be creepy when you search for a medical condition online and a related ad pops up on your field. >> it's called digital tracking.

account" and then "my activity" there are alternatives like "duck duck go" that don't track their users. >> that was "7 on your side" michael finney. if you want to stick with google search you can tweak the settings. you can also delete the records of what you searched and the youtube videos that you watch. more tips from consumer reports are available on our website. >> in nine, kaiser permanente is offering drive-through flu shots this weekend. dozens got vaccinated. they came from all over the bay area yesterday. >> and it was so easy. i did it because the flu is terrible, debilitating if you do get it. so i want to make sure that with work and family, we are covered. so i don't get the flu. doctors say it's important to get a flu shot now before the end of the month. that's when the flu virus can start to appear.

it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take effect. children and school-age children are most at risk. >> now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning. 70s to 90s were the highs yesterday and this morning only asteiny bit of fog at the golden gate bridge. but we are looking at a system to the north and west of us that is the source of our cooling. no rainfall yet for tomorrow and tuesday. as it passes to the north of us. but then another system, actually two systems dropping down to bring us a couple opportunities of rain later in the week. right now look how glassy the bay is, light winds. good morning san francisco, 55 for you. it's 54 in oakland. half moon bay down to 43 degrees. and look at this fog-free shot from sutro. 48 in napa and novato. 49 by the delta. it's 50 santa rosa. 90s well to the north.

also it was 90 in santa cruz and this morning 6 degrees cooler in san francisco with the patchy fog. a light west wind at about 8 miles an hour. and by the afternoon it will still be light. we will see an increase in some high level clouds, as well. overall a sunny finish to the weekend. temperatures will drop throughout the week and rain chances begin on thursday. a secondary system that will drop further south will take rain probably through saturday. three to four-foot wave heights with a beach hazard statement from sonoma and monterey with strong rip currents and lodge breakers possible. the high clouds are also going to continue to advance throughout the day today. so you will notice them, and i got some tweets yesterday about some high clouds in the sky. you will have partly to mostly sunny conditions for the blue angels. temperatures cooler, right around average at about 70, 71 this afternoon in the city with

the light breeze. it should be pretty nice. the south bay still on the warm side with mid-and upper 80s from santa clara to san jose. 72 in santa cruz that. should feel pretty good. 80 for you in redwood city today. 83 mountain view. cooler on the peninsula. you will feel the sea breeze. it will be light, though. low 70s in the city and low to mid-80s in the north bay. still quite warm here. 85 napa and mid-and upper 70s for oakland and hayward. 81 fremont. you head inland, more reds. and some numbers could touch around 90. brentwood and antioch. talk about the chance of rain. looks like thursday for the city and then friday a better chance. remember, this ask a good week out. so things will definitely change. but at least it gives you an idea that by friday morning we could see some rain coming in. saturday looking at that stronger system. the accuweather seven-day forecast. columbus day cooler but still

>> good morning north bay. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc7 mornings. >> thanks for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather. here's lisa argen tracking the conditions where you live. hi, lisa. >> good morning, chris. about 345, 40 minutes until sunrise. you see from mt. tam how nice it looks out there. no fog to speak of. there's a little at the golden gate. temperatures range from lw 40s half man bay, upper 50s mountain view and half moon bay. here it is around 101. it's clear there. 49 by the delta and from our east bay hills camera it should be a nice day burks a warm one inland. near 90 there with lower 80s around the bay. a little cooling there. and some high clouds will enter the picture, as well. chris. >> lisa, thank you. developing news. a pleasant day in the san francisco bay turned into panic for some, as a yacht with 30 people onboard capsized,

leaving two children in critical condition. a five-year-old boy was trapped under the yacht, along with his dad. those onboard the nearby fishing boat "happy day" rushed to help. >> i was on the side and then it flipped all the way over. as people were clinging to the hull and the stern of the boat, the back of it went down. >> the good news about the three children in the hospital, firefighters say they hopefully will all recover. this incident is now being investigated by the u.s. coast guard and the san francisco police department. they want the to know how a boat sunk so quickly with so many people on board. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana brings us the story. >> according to the coast guard, the boat was a 34-foot motor vessel. authorities are now trying to figure out what went i don't -- what went wrong. but the captain of the blue star, one of the civilian boats that came to help, is raising questions about the safety of

the boat. >> you know, i saw a lot of what appeared to be kids to me. i don't know what their ages were. but i never saw anybody wearing a life jacket. >> one of the people aboard the blue star shot these pictures of the rescue effort. investigators say they don't know if everyone aboard was wearing a life jacket. >> we have not determined at this time what was involved, who was wearing what. that's still under investigation. >> this turned out to be a massive rescue effort with multiple boats responding within minutes. of the 30 people who went into the water, three children were sent to general hospital. one, a five-year-old, was pulled from inside the cabin of the sinking boat. he was immediately given cpr by another passenger. he was taken to general hospital in critical condition. five adult passengers were rushed to area hospitals just as a precaution. emergency crews are praising the efforts of rescue teams and witnesses who sprung into action. >> this could been really, really catastrophic.

we had 30 people in the water with more boat traffic on the water than just about any other day of the year. >> all 30 people who went into the water survived. sergio quintana, abc7 news. developing news out of palm springs where police have taken into custody a man suspected of shooting and killing two officers. the officers, jose vaga, and the woman officer were killed while talking to a man involved in a family dispute. authorities say the man was standing inside his front door when he opened fire. it took nearly twelve hours for officers to talk the suspect into surrendering. his name has not been released. palm springs, as you can imagine, the city is engulfed in grief. officers walked the caskets of their colleagues out to the hearse for a trip to the coroner's office. many people said they just needed to do something to show their sympathy with the department. vagua, 63, was a 35-year veteran of the force who was planning to retire in december. the 27-year-old had just returned to active duty after

giving birth to a daughter. >> approaching 6:34 on our sunday morning. hurricane matthew is no more. it's been downgraded to a tropical storm. but that means nothing. he has caused roads along the coast to collapse. 31 people have died as a result of matthew and damage could rise into the billions. the storm has sustained winds of 75 miles an hour. matthew has flooded homes and businesses as far as 100 miles inland. turning to "your voice, your votes." presidential debate number two is set for tonight in st. louis. the person in the crosshairs is donald trump. leaked audio tapes showing him talking lewd to women. and as for prepping to the debate, he said that's for people who can't handle the exhausting pace of a campaign. >> forget the debate prep.

give me a break. do you really think hillary clinton is debate prepping for three or four days? hillary clinton is resting. tonight's debate is a town hall format with half of the questions coming from the audience. hillary clinton's campaign also faces questions following the release of hacked e-mails by wikileaks. messages revealed some of what clinton said during private speeches given to wall street executives. she shared how she favored open trade and open borders. trump opposes those policies. she has refused to release any transcripts of some of her speeches. there's a lot to cover tonight in the second presidential debate in st. louis. abc's martha raddatz will co-moderate the debate between trump and clinton. we will televise the entire debate. it begins at 6:00 tonight. you can also stream it on the abc7 news app. the presidential race will be front and center on "this

week." former new york city mayor and most vocal supporter, rudy giuliani, will engage in banter with george stephanopoulos. it airs right here on abc7 at 8:00. followed by abc7 mornings at 9:00. police made an arrest in the attempted kidnapping of a five-year-old friday afternoon. the man, eddie fontenette, age 39, a transient from berkeley, is accused of trying to grab the child who was with a family member. it happened at 53rd street and san pablo avenue. that was friday afternoon. the relative began screaming for help and the suspect fled the scene. the suspect faces charges of kidnapping, child endangerment and a probation violation. he has been previously arrested for sexual assault. train service on the long island railroad has been suspended after a commuter derailed after hitting a work train on the tracks. cell phone video from inside one of the train's cars shows passengers looking out trying to see what happened. the first three card of the train derailed shortly after 6:00 our time last night. about 20 people were hurt, but none seriously. about 20 people were on the train when it crashed.

. >> we have some changes on the way with rain in the forecast. lisa is tracking it all. she'll return in a little bit to break it all down for us. fleet week and other festivities have attracted hundreds of thousands of people in san francisco this weekend. police say they have extra officers on duty. while people looked up to the sky at the blue angels buzzing over places like the marina green, the sfpd focused on keeping it peaceful, safe and enjoyable. on friday night police received reports of a man with a gun inside a hotel at fishermen's wharf. dozens of officers took part in the search. the gun turned out to be a toy, but police took it very seriously until they determined there was no danger. >> a the make everybody of the epipen has agreed to pay a fine totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. mylan was accused of falsely classifying the drug as a life-saving allergic treatment so it could overcharge medicaid.

companies play less money under the rebate program if a drug is classified at generic. it was recently discovered they were paying the lower rate to medicare for the epipen. under the $465 million agreemen, mylan does not admit to any wrongdoing. 6:41 is our time. >> hurricane matthew could put a temporary halt on the mosquitoes that spread the zika virus. there could be a big decrease in the mosquitoes because they get washed away by the heavy rain that. can have an effect on the zika transmission. there have been 141 locally-transmitted cases of zika reported in zika since the end of july. a bald eagle is recovering after surviving a highway mishap near jacksonville, florida. you can see where it landed after it flew in front of a man's car. these pictures were posted on facebook by the sheriff's department. they worked careful will i to

still some 80s. you have to get pretty far north for the mid-80s in cloverdale. low 80s san rafael. fremont warms to 81. you head inland, upper 80s and a couple weather systems knocking on our door for thursday. first chance of rain, and then by friday in san francisco into saturday. and this forecast model paints the a wet picture all the way through the bay area on friday morning. of course, we will have to fine-tune this as it gets closer. then by saturday night it looks like a system on its heels. the accuweather seven-day forecast, upper 60s coast to near 90 by the delta today. the sea breeze will cool us off, and high clouds. columbus day, temperatures continue the slide and by tuesday afternoon we are back to average. wednesday, pretty nice day, but by thursday we are talking about rain. perhaps in the north bay and friday and saturday. one forecast model paints a quarter inch with each system. so this is a week out, remember. just a guesstimate. >> looking forward to it but
