>> now at 11:00, wildfire in wild country. flames come close to are to offing homes. now firefighters are rushing to get control of this napa county fire. i'm dan ashley and ama daetz is off. the so-called creak fire broke out at 4:00 this afternoon. 53-acres burned near dry creek road three miles west of yountville. spencer christian is tracking the weather conditions facing firefighters, but let's begin with reporter katie who is live near the fire lines. >> favorable weather conditions are playing a major role in helping this firefight. there is little to no wind. it is chilly and the air is damp. the grass and brush are still very is dry. i want to go to some sky 7 video to show you as the fire raced up the steep terrain. the hillsides are quite a

challenge for firefighters. you can see it threatening this home along dry creek road. mandatory evacuations are are in place for the campbell creek and campbell flat areas and will remain so overnight. the local firefighters tell me there are a dozen homes in the area, and this is three miles west of yountville as you mentioned. the fire started at 4:15. the cause is under investigation. it has grown to 53-acres. the crews running dozers and dropping fire retardant managed to contain it to 25%. >> firefighters took advantage of the cooler temperatures although the fuels were still dry we were able to make great progress. this could have been a larger fire if the winds were to come up and the temperatures were higher. >> firefighters say the large amount of defensible space around the home we showed you made the difference in keeping the home from catching fire. and a red cross evacuation

center has been set up on first street and napa. when i called earlier nobody had taken advantage of that yet. dry creek road is closed in the area of fire and those mandatory evacuations will remain in effect overnight. live near yowptville, abc7 news. >> dan: thanks very much. let's continue our team coverage with spencer christian and the weather conditions facing the fire crews on the ground. >> the weather conditions are favorable for containing this fire. here is live doppler 7 and let's go to the area of the fire and i'll take you down to ground level there in yountville off dry creek road. it is currently 54 degrees in the area of the fire. relative humidity is up to 85%. the steady winds are light, only three miles per hour with occasional gusts to seven miles per hour. just to give you an indication of how mailed and calm the winds are around the area except in fair field we have a couple wind and we expect rain

related to the creepy clown threats you may have heard going around the bay area and the country. today police increased their presence at the school to be safe. moving now to hurricane matthew and people in north carolina are dealing with dangerous flooding from 15 inches of rain and 9-foot storage -- storm surges. the storm barreled through the southeast coast on saturday. more than a million homes and businesses are still without power. >> dan: the most powerful republican there washington is telling gop candidates to do what is best for their election campaigns when it comes to donald trump. house speaker paul ryan says to nate he will no longer defend the republican presidential candidate after trump's heated debate with hillary clinton. kenneth moten has more. >> reporter: hillary clinton claiming victory after the second debate showdown with donald trump. >> did anybody see that debate last night?

bag. that guidance goes to the replacement phones as well. >> dan: new details on the two attackers accused of beating a richmond man of the sikh faith. the east bay times report they are contractors for chevron's richmond refinery. the victim says the suspects knocked off his turbine and hit him in the eye and mouth and slashed his finger in late september. the suspects also cutoff his hair which is against the sikh religion. chase little and dustin alvarado were arrested for the attack. members of richmond's sikh community and the mayor called for the two to be charged with a hate crime as well and chevron says the contractor has fired both men. >> dan: san francisco police found the wreckage of a boat that sank near pier45. only 7 news is showing you this sonar image. the front of the boat is on the left. according to state records it is a 34-foot boat called cali
