for the ntt of this advertising. oh, as you know, it is a rainy friday. a live look from mt. tam as the first major storm of the season soaks the bay area. well, you saw a little look at mt. tam. it's just raining, i'll tell that you. >> the rain is still coming down in san francisco and it's not just rain though. wind will be a big issue. good afternoon and thanks for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm larry beil. the rain started overnight. it's just starting to let up a bit. abc 7 news was in downtown san francisco. it was loud, and the umbrellas came out with a stead rain early this afternoon. one of the biggestish fruit this storm is the power outages that have affected more than 20,000 customers. most of those affected are in

the east bay. >> accidents were also an issue. abc 7 news was in san rafael with a big rig accident for hours. >> and big waves are still pushing further onshore. >> team coverage for the damage caused by today's tomorrow beginning with spencer christian for a look at what's still ahead. >> all right. here's live doppler 7, and, of course, it's still wet over most of the bay area. although at the moment there's not much activity up in the north bay so a closer look at where the rainfall is at the moment. let me close it a little bit here. line of rain moving into marin county and eastward over to el torito. patches of rain around san francisco, concord and livermore and east bay, hayward, milipitas getting light to moderate rain and san mateo and redwood city getting rain. view of the san mateo bridge and these are rainfall totals, an inch and a quarter in kent field and .7 in richmond and oakland

and san francisco.33 and under .1 in palo alto. storm impact skill, the rain and intensity of the storm is ranked 1 from light to 45 severe and the remaining of this evening's storm remains 1 on the impact scale. less than a quarter inch of additional rain from this system. slick rain and light showers will be the rule for the rest of the evening. as 6 company p.m., patches of rain over parts of the east bay and down through the santa cruz mountains down into parts of the south bay forecast into 10:00 tonight as the rain tapers off into scattered showers, but there's another storm on the way tomorrow. it's going to bring even stronger winds with it, and i'll give you a look at the complete weekend forecast in just a few minutes. larry and ama. >> >> the rain is causing problems all around the bay area including power outages. >> abc 7 news reporter laura anthony tweeted this picture from contra costa college today who had to cancel classes today.

>> reporter: there's still a smattering of pout outages in the east way from richmond up to san pablo. small outages from 1 to 700 people. the main cull tritt not so much high winds or heavy rains but dust mixed with drizzle. >> huge explosion followed by an echo. >> reporter: in point richmond it was loud and clear as overnight rains led to a spark that blew a transformer. >> and then another bright blast and huge explosion. very dramatic and complete silence and noise. >> reporter: and a fire that burned through the top portion of the pole. the whole episode knocked out power to dozens of homes and businesses, including this hair salon where the work continued by candlelight. >> this brave client right here decided, no, we're going to do it, and -- and go ahead and throw color on and let's do it. >> reporter: in downtown richmond, another transformer failed leaving residents in the area of 21st and sutter also

scrambling for light. it's not uncommon for dusty transformers to blow with the first rains of the season. >> with a light rain it's just enough moisture to cause at dust to become a conductor between negative and positive energies which in turn causes electrical fire. >> reporter: contra costa college in san pablo also had a power outage prompting the cancellation of classes for the day. a large tree also fell on a campus that was largely deserted. at last word, the power is back on at contra costa college, but they will plan to resume classes tomorrow. as for that larger power outage at point richmond, the latest word from pg&e that would be up and running again by about 6:00 tonight. live in the east bay, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> all right, laura. thank you. there were major delays on b.a.r.t. this morning as the storm hit the peninsula. a power outage caused b.a.r.t. to lose control of its track system around the daily city

station so crews then had to manually switch cars for most of the morning and that means the cars would have to slow down and that caused delays up to an hour for passengers who are heading south of daily city. delays of up to 10 minutes continued throughout most of the morning. in the santa cruz mountains a light but steady rain has brought some runoff. abc 7 news was in the area burned by the loma fire with dry soil and all the trees and grass destroyed by the fire so that the water doesn't soak into the ground. the good news is there's no major flooding or mud slides. >> a produce truck overturned on 101 in san rafael that snarled traffic for drivers this morning. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman in north bay with the details. wayne? >> reporter: larry, big story in marin county has been traffic, between 6:00 a.m. and noon. the chp reported 30 separate accidents. after that they say they have had at least another 20 more, more like the at least part. this would be accident number 21 that happened a few moments ago. we're at lucky drive and clearly

no one is injured and the chp is filing yet another report on a day they cannot believe. in marin county today, it could have been and almost was just another rainstorm. the first big one of the season. on fourth street in san rafael it might have been a little inconveniencing here and there but no big deal. >> reporter: >> good to have some rain and if you live around here maybe you know where this is going because a mile or so north on highway 101 on san pedro road. one jackknifed big rig closed three of four lanes and if you're wondering how this could happen. >> it appears that the vehicle just lost control. this is an area as we see with wet wet, and especially on hill, get a lot of water on these hills. >> leading to a bottleneck and rainy day gridlock that appeared to never end. not only did it backup northbound 101 but all the surface streets around it in san rafael. >> it's impossible to do anything in this county. >> reporter: all in a rainy day's work, some might say. and had we asked the statue of

yoda he would have said the force is not with you. in marin county, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> abc 7 news found two single-car accidents just after noon today on highway 240 24 in aroundia. the chp told us no one was injured. they are asking drivers to be earnings tra careful and slow down a bit. the storm cancelled a lot of flights out of sfo today. a total of 81 sonar. most of them were this morning and when abc 7 news stopped by the airport this afternoon, we found lots of flights delayed about half an hour for departing flights and an hour for arrivals. have a live look right now hat conditions at sfo. well, the lens is covered with drops. i think that's kind of self-explanatory. residents at oakland and manetta san jose international tell us that the weather is not impacting their flights. sfo is always the worst because of the fog, et cetera. we have up to the minute weather information for you any time on

just because are you a star. >> several women have come forward in recent days accusing the republican nominee of groping them or kissing them without permission. trump has denied the allegation at a rally in north carolina and said women could, quote, say it about anybody, even president obama. oakland raiders owner mark davis is calling this the proud new home for the entire raid err nation. today nevada lawmakers signed off on a plan to build an nfl stadium in las vegas. the nearly $2 billion project includes $750 in million in public money. davis would still need the approval of three-fourths of nfl owners to actually move the team to las vegas. nonetheless, davis called this an historic day and in a statement he said, quote, all parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project. let me just give you my two cents here. despite the vote today, we're still a long ways away from the raiders actually moving to vegas. the nfl has made it clear that the league would prefer to keep the raiders in oakland, so the

question now is really whether ronnie lott and his group with or without eddie debartolo jr. who maybe involved, can come up with a stadium deal in oakland, and is the mayor going to help, or is she just resigned to holding on to the a's at this point and the raiders leaving? on the vegas side, the nfl is extremely concerned about casino boss sheldon adelson having an ownership stake in this team. fairly certain that the league doesn't want him in their exclusive club so we have to see how that shakes out and i know some people, a lot of loyal fans of the silver and black locally, are really upset right now with owner mark davis. he's gushing about the vegas vote, but what you have to understand here is he's got to say this, okay. davis, he pledged full support for the carson project. he was ready to go to l.a. in a heartbeat, full speed ahead. mark davis would go to neptune if they would build a stadium for him up there. clearly vegas has momentum but this is not a done deal by any

means. they could still get something worked out in oakland, but it's up to them to get it done. >> today's vote was delayed by two hours because of a fire burning between reno and carson city. nearly two dozen homes have been destroyed by the fire still burning out of control. oakland firefighters tweeted this picture as they headed to nevada to help fight that fire due to concerns over high winds. firefighters from very much did a are also assisting. 50 homes have been evacuated because of another fire burning near emerald bay. the fire has burned 200 acres and 500 homes near south lake tahoe are under a mandatory evacuation and another 500 have been asked to voluntarily leave. coming up on "abc 7 news at 4:00,". >> you don't think that anybody in this day and age would do something like that. >> the surveillance video that caught two students in the act. what they were doing that shocked the campus. and check this out, a judge takes down a defendant in his

students and staff at santa clara university are alaermd -- alarmed by some hateful incidents at santa clara university. >> reporter: it's what some are calling acts of hate. >> you don't think anybody in this day and age would do something like that. very sad. >> reporter: this leaked surveillance show some what have happened. last week two students who have since been identified used their blood to draw swastika on a poster inside an elevator at the

catsa italiana and homophobic and transphobic slurs were also found on a community bulletin board. >> a lot of acts of hate come out of like ignorance and stereotypes that aren't even true and they should learn like the consequences of the actions. >> reporter: in a statement to the university community, the president father michael ang said we have a proud tradition of jesuit values at santa clara, and these ideals must inspire our work to support and understand one another, no matter our differences. the santa clara mayor on campus attending an event today echoed those comments. >> it's a learning experience for everyone around that you can never be too comfortable. there's people out there with these types of beliefs and we just need to let them know it's unacceptable. >> the santa clara police department has been notified about the incident and is investigating. >> i was really disgusted by thinking that people at santa clara would, you know, do something like that, and my brother is guy and the homophobic thing really hit

home. >> the university will be holding a conduct hearing to determine any appropriate sanctions. ? santa clara, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. a shooting in the los altos hills left one person wounded. it happened near oak knoll circle where they heard shots being fired. neighbors were told to shelter in place. one resident shared these photos with abc 7 news. all of the occupants of the home where the shooting happened surrendered to deputies. the victim was taken to hospital where he's undergoing surgery. all right. it's official. the sales force tower became san francisco's tallest building today. >> part of the transformation of ever-growing city skyline and it's not done growing yet. >> kristein sze is here with more. >> the iconic transamerica building in san francisco has been the tallest structure in the city for 43 years. that record was wiped away today. this is now the biggest. only abc 7 news was there as construction crews poured the concrete that pushed the

degrees. raindrops on the camera lens at sfo because it's raining there, and here's a look at our forecast features. rain will taper off tonight. next storm arrives tomorrow afternoon. that could be a doozy, and we'll see periods of rain through sunday as that second storm swings out of the bay area. tomorrow under sometime stormy conditions look for high temperatures ranging from mid-60s at the coast to some low 70s right around the bay, and mainly low 70s in the mildest inland locations. our storm impact scale again, this next storm coming in tomorrow ranks two on the impact scale. a storm of moderate intenacity. it will arrive in the north bay and will bring wind gusts from 30 to 50 miles per hour and rainfall totals from a tenth of an inch to an inch in the wettest locations. wind gusts start at 10:00 and by 11:00 gusts right around the 30-mile-per-hour and higher. as we get later into the afternoon, approaching the evening hours, gusts will range

from 30 to 507 miles per hour. going to be very wind late tomorrow and a wind advisory in effect and the strongest wind gusts will be in the highest elevati elevations. what we have to look out for is the possibility of downed trees and power lines. gusts ranging from 40 to 50 miles per hour at their peak, and it would be a good idea to secure any loose outdoor objects that you don't want blown away. here's the animation for rainfall starting saturday morning at 9:00. notice it won't be -- the rain won't be very widespread early tomorrow and by mid-afternoon we'll see an area of powerful rain swinging through the south bay and down into sonoma county bringing moderate to heavy rain and pretty widespread by 5:00 p.m. moving down into san francisco and peninsula and raining rather heavily in the north bay as the frontal system that brings the rain swings through tomorrow night at 11:00. rain tapering off in the north bay and it will have shifted down into the south bay and santa cruz mountains.

rainfall totals we project, half an inch to an inch of rain generally in the north bay and .1 or .6 in the remainder of the bay area. here's what we're watching for sunday. where will the front stall? if it stalts right over the bay area we could get a sewinging and if it swings throug and stalls outside the bay area we may get drizzle and then we'll get the gusty winds 20 to 40 miles per hour and here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. a storm ranking two on the impact scale tomorrow because it's bringing more rain and strong gusty winds. occasional showers and light rain on sunday. that system will rank 1 on the impact scale, and cloudy skies with peeks of sun on monday and brighter skies and warmer weather pattern beginning on tuesday continuing through all of next week and the next couple of days right on through the weekend we're looking at stormy weather. >> everybody that would like to see spencer out in the rain may be -- hit me up on twitter. >> everybody would like to see that except spencer.

the main body of today's storm resides mainly south and east of the golden gate right now. the north bay is experimenting quiet conditions right now. what is not quiet is the surf. we have a coastal flood advisory in effect at 9:00 p.m. wave heights well above average. high tides and waves may cause localized flooding. tomorrow under partly stormy conditions. and tomorrow at the coast, low 80s inland, and this could be iran aefnd windy especially in the afternoon and evening hours and tomorrow's storms rank it on the storm impact scale and a storm of moderate intensity which will develop and start moving into the north bay mainly in the afternoon and through the remainder of the bay area and gusts 30 miles per hour and look for an additional .1 of rainfall from that storm. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. once we get through the weekend storms, just occasional showers on sunday whie'll see peeks of sunshine on monday and tuesday.

parked it in front of his house thinking it would be safe. he was wrong. police have been looking for it all week. >> at this point we still have not been contacted by the police or uhaul company. >> reporter: 26-foot you a haul truck like this one is still miss willing. it was parked in front of david lang's home here in the oakland hills friday night when it was stolen. a truck filled with donated supplies for a wounded veterans group. lang's housemate ulysses adams was injured in the persian gulf during desert fox in the late '90s. he couldn't believe it. >> takes away from the faith and humanity and what not. >> reporter: the truck was filled with cases of gatorade and bottled water for sunday's ride to recovery, a disabled veterans program that sponsors the 450-mile bicycle ride each year from palo alto to santa monica. the truck was donated by uhaul, the gatorade and water by pepsico.
