my goodness, a water main break sends a river rushing through an east bay neighborhood, and residents say this same pipe has broken before. i'm larry beem. >> and i'm ama daetz. east bay mud says it's trying to keach up with its crumbling infrastructure. >> this break happened just before 7:30 this morning at montana street and diamond avenue in oakland. sky 7 shows the street there starting to buckle as the water comes pouring out. >> reporter: abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman has more. on montana street in oakland the problem of aging infrastructure has come home to rust. >> oh, it was just like water everywhere.

>> well, it's a mess. it's a huge mess. >> reporter: even then veronica bonilla is prone to understatement after a ruptured water main put her family's living space under water at 7:30 this morning. >> once i saw the water we knew, it was deja vu all over again. it's happened before. >> reporter: believe it. >> this is the third time and the worst. >> reporter: residents tell us the last was in december of 2014, the time before that, well, would you believe that as of early this afternoon east bay mud still could not confirm it? >> we've responded to between 800 and 1,000 main breaks each year so remembering one main break can sometimes be difficult. >> reporter: they say the broken main was made of cast iron and almost 100 years old. it's exactly the kind of main that the utility is replacing at a rate of 10 miles a year with thousand of miles to go, but three breaks in one spot. >> all they are doing is patching up pipes. that's it. they are not really addressing the full problem. these -- this street needs to be redone, and they ain't doing it. >> instead, each bay mud worked

on another patch today. >> potentially we need to replace the entire main. >> are you saying this main could break again tomorrow. >> it could happen tomorrow again. >> reporter: how reassuring to the residents of montana street. from oakland, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> we sent out a push alert this morning as soon as that water main break happened. you can get breaking alerts all the time by downloading the abc 7 news app and enabling push alerts. san francisco police officer kevin downs has been shifted from the hospital to a physical therapy facility. downs was shot in the head and partially paralyzed last friday. his family issued a statement today saying kevin is determined through intense physical therapy to walk again and ultimately return to full duty as a san francisco police officer. downs was shot when responding to reports of a mentally ill man who is making threats hat the lake shore shopping center. 26-year-old nicholas mcwerder was armed with a revolver, opened fire on officers and was

later killed in a shootout with police. >> the cal bears host the oregon ducks football team tonight, but win or lose there will be not be partying at any of the fraternities or sororities. the greek system is cracking down on parties while police investigate allegations of sexual assault. abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington is in berkeley with the story for us. >> reporter: very unusual for a student group and not university officials to put a stop to these parties. the greek system does not want its members to host events where people are drink, and they hope this sends a strong message against sexual violence. typically before a big football game uc berkeley's greek row on piedmont avenue is packed with parties, but this game day it's quiet. the student-run intrafraternity council has called for a ban on all greek social events following allegations of sexual assaults in fraternity houses. two women reported being attacked last weekend. in a facebook post, the president called the incidents vile. he writes we wish to reiterate

our pledge to eliminate sexual violence from our community and reaffirm our commitment to our members and students of berk throw provide a safe environment for all. the ifc is suspending fraternity and sorority parties while members re-evaluate their risk management practices. >> that's not fair, my opinion. >> reporter: students i talked to are split on this approach. some say partying is part of college life and ban or not students will still find a way to drink alcohol. >> the students need the outlet of having a party to go to or whatever. >> reporter: others are frustrated with the amount of crime alerts they get. melanie pittman is encouraged to see students leading the charge to make a change. >> there have been too many sexual assaults, too much rapes. i understand it. i don't think it would last long term. i'd be amazed if they can actually enforce it for a full weekend, to be honest. >> reporter: there's been 21 reported sexual assaults throughout the city of berkeley including the university area in just the past six months. campus police will not enforce

this party ban since it's voluntary and not a law enforcement at uc berkeley, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. internet service remains sporadic nationwide this afternoon after hackers attacked a company that serves as an internet switchboard, so to speak. the attack began around 7:00 this morning back east preventing internet users from accessing a wide range of websites, tried to get on twitter, neflt irregular or spotify or airbnb. the attack on the new hampshire-based company called dine did not affect the websites themselves but stopped or slowed access to them. david lieuy will have much more coming up at 5:00. wells fargo fake bank accounts scandal may cause the bank to close several locations. the crisis may eventually force the bank to close some branches. wells fargo may have to close one-sixth of its 6,000 branches to pay for mounting legal fees.

e we have new details on a dramatic fire that destroyed a hillside mansion in los angeles last night. this afternoon authorities confirmed they found human remains in the rubble. tennants reported the 84-year-old homeowner missing last night them. say he ran inside while the home was burning to rescue some puppies. 12 people lived in that home. one of them is in fair condition with smoke inhalation. construction started today at sfo's terminal one arrivals. this is part of the airport's

today after getting his car wrejed underneath a tractor trailer. sky 7 was above the montclair district showing the damage. witnesses told us the man backed underneath that semi to. to pull free he then hit the gas. the car shot forward to a shop called someone's in the kitchen, yeah, breaking its front glass. he then backed up again and got stuck under that semi a second time. fortunately though no one was hurt. the owner of someone is in the kitchen say the driver is a 97-year-old man who gets coffee every day at the doughnut shop next door. san francisco's famous alamo square is slowly starting to look like a park again. abc 7 news was at the popular tourist spot as crews planted more than 100 new trees during the park's renovation. as our partners at hood line tell, the alamo square neighborhood associate raised $131,000 to pay for the freeze. a large variety will be planted from montry cypress to weeping

as you can see from the view of the golden. we expect some coastal fog to reform sunday night. below average this weekend this cooler pattern will continue until next week and the pattern will be unsettled and showery from time to time and let's take a look at current temperature readings. 59 at half moon bay and pretty mild in most locations. 72 in oakland. lots of low 80s in our inland areas and even up north it's 81 degrees. overnight we'll see mainly clear skies, a few high clouds will pass by and once again a couple of patches of fog will form into the coastline. low temperatures will be glnl in the low to mid- -- we'll see highs tomorrow mainly in the mid-70s. cooling down heading into the weekend. 60s around the bay and 60 and

626 on the coast and looking ahead to sun not much change. temperatures will remain below average for this time of the year, but inland we'll see some mid-70s. it will be partly cloudy. sunday is also home game for the niners down at levi stadium. they will taking on the buccaneers. it will be 75 degrees as game starts. it will warm up a couple degrees and a little cloudier by 4:00 p.m. as we get later in the game. approaching showers. starting the forecast animation, 5:00 a.m. monday. we'll see the beginnings. it will be a little bit wet. showers will -- showers did taper off a bit and rainfall totals from the rain early next week range from 1.3 inches in santa rosa to only a few hundred deaths of an inch south and east of the golden gate.

here's a look at headlines coming up at 4:30. they describe as a river flowing through the neighborhood and imagine waking up to that. this was in oakland. a water main broke. it happened near 7:30 this morning near the fruitvale exit. sky 7 shows us the muddy exit that's been left behind. the water got into nearby homes. east bay mud working to repair that 16-inch mud. they say it's a cast iron pipe from 1932 and was due to be replaced. >> abc 7 news reporter david louie digging into the cyber attack that took down major websites all across the country today. he tweeted this map showing the areas that were the hardest hit. at 5:00 what the attack did some bay area companies. also coming up at 5:00, abc 7 news reporter vic lee on why police have closed the mysterious murder-suicide case of this brisbane woman. for the first time we're hearing from the man at the center of the san francisco police department's first successful de-escalation

following the new training and reforms that have been put into effect. in july pierre dyson, he was found or was in a nearly four hour standoff with police in the tenderloin. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow caught up with dyson and his family in court and has a story you'll see only on 7. melanie. >> reporter: pierre dyson is out on bail and on his way to a treatment program. his family and attorney general are hopeful the d.a.'s office will reconsider a proposed deal that will send him to prison. this was pierre dyson in july, shirtless belly down in the tenderloin, his hands in his pockets. san francisco police say he was armed. this is the gun, and ammunition they recovered. for nearly four hours police attempted to get dyson to take his hands how the of his pockets. >> i'm just thankful that i'm still here hand the police did their job as far as not killing me. >> reporter: interim police chief tony chaplin says officers did what they were training to
