arrest. >> reporter: wherever he winds up, he says he wants to help others. >> you have choices to make. just make the right decisions. a man drove himself to a san francisco police station after being shot today. he told them he'd been shot at third street and fitzgerald avenue. a police captain tweeted a picture of the car. officers are looking for three men involved in that shooting. police officer kevin was responding to a report of a mentally ill man threatening people in a shopping center. the man was later killed with a

shootout with police. two more oakland police officers appeared in court today, one to enter a plea related to the ongoing police sex scandal and another to face charges in an unrelated prostitution case. abc7 news is live with the story. laura? >> reporter: well, it's become a common site here at this court house, police officers walking in as criminal defendants. today were there were two more. and both told us there is more to the story. ryan walterhouse is the latest oakland police officer criminally charged. the 26-year-old arrested and charged with felony conspiracy to obstruct justice and misdemeanor prostitution. he pled not guilty in a hayward

courtroom. >> from the facts we're heading to trial. we'll let a jury decide what the truth is. >> i have been advised not to make any statements at this time. >> reporter: moments later another oakland police officer pled not guilty to a charge he had oral sex with an under aged prostitute. >> he never met her. he never had sex with her. he's accused of it. you hear that and everybody jumps to cop, guilty. you're all wrong. >> when you have situations where officers are violating their oath by soliciting sexual activity, that undermines the integrity of the department.

>> reporter: walterhouse already posted bail. we have breaking news from southern california. a fire has broken out in a recycling facility in ontario. this is a live picture over the scene. smoke is possible throughout los angeles, san bernardino and orange counties. crews are dousing this blaze with water from above. it appears to be keeping the fire from spreading. we're told piles of paper are burning at this facility. a grand jury indicted a russian man suspected of stealing and selling information of more than 100 million linkedn customers. he is accused of hacking into the lock boxes, and alleges he

stole personal information and sold it. authorities in the czech republic arrested him on october 5th. the russian government is trying to block his extradition, claiming u.s. law enforcement is hunting of russian citizens around the world. an inmate hunger strike in the santa clara jail is now over. it's unclear what assurances inmates were given. about 125 maximum security inmates stopped eating five days ago, complaining about food, lack of clean clothing and prices. a sheriff's official agreed with the inmates. workers say they'll be out all night working on this water main break. a neighbor took the video this morning told us it looked like water was three-feet deep.

republican national convention. we're four days from the deadline to register to vote in california. abc7 news is live at the santa clara county elections office in san jose with a push to get more people to vote. hi, chris. good evening, county officials are expecting turn out to be 80% to 85% this year. they want the number to go up. inside of the registrar of voters office, election officers are sorting through 50,000 mail in ballots. >> staff compare the signature from the outside of the envelope with the signature we have on file to confirm it is the voter's signature. >> the registrar is responsible for ensuring a fair process. >> those received up to the day before the election, those ballots cast will be the first

are going to be different because fraternities and soror tis are banning alcohol in the wake of two sexual assaults on campus. abc7 news is in berkeley with the story. alisa? >> reporter: before a big football game, this area is usually packed with parties. you can see fraternities are relatively quiet. there will be no greek events this weekend as leaders hope to eliminate the party culture in the wake of sexual assault allegations. in an unusual move, the fraternity council is asking for a ban on parties. two women reported being attacked last weekend. the ifc president writes the ifc decided to suspend all social events until we can care for those who have been affected. student leaders are meeting this

internet's vulnerability was exposed today as a malicious attack left web sites inaccessible. several area companies were victims. >> abc7 news details what happened and how you may have played a role in this attack. >> twitter.com have no meaning now to the internet. it can't resolve to an ip address. >> that is what happened. not just to twitter but many best known sites today. a malicious attack at times, people wouldn't couldn't get to facebook, or amazon.

but no one knows who launched the attack or why. >> anonymous is able to do this. there are various organized criminal elements in operating out of various countries and nation states could be doing this. >> the attack is bounded by sending malicious code to unexpecting computers and smart phones, launching a coordinative bombardment of a server. it could be any device. >> security cameras, consumer electronics that are in homes, anything that is smart and connected that has a vulnerability or a weakness could be part of the attack. >> the attack came in separate waves, impacting most of the u.s. the white house says homeland security is investigating. >> at this point, i don't have any information to share about

police in el cajon filed a claim against the city saying the officer should have used less than lethal force. the 38-year-old man was shot to death after pulling a device out of his pocket. a company met with law enforcement officials about an idea to taser drones flown into dangerous high-risk situations. activists expressed worry saying it represents further militarization of u.s. police agencies. brisbane police released a report on the investigation into the his storus murder of a woman

off the bay bridge. he's still a person of interest, not a suspect. fremont and brisbane police searched the home and business for evidence. on february 28th, an important discovery at the marsh lands. a pair of arms, a fingerprint matches her dmv print. police still have no cause of death. the missing part of her anatomy may answer that. >> you're missing the head. you know? did he knock her out? we don't know. >> reporter: police never found a crime scene but conclude paul tichner killed his wife. >> she died. how? fall? whatever? heart attack? i don't know. >> police believe paul tichenner killed his wife because of stress over money problems and her alcohol abuse. coming up next, learning to fight with the power of the force.

cal has still officially not said if he's going to play yet and listed as a game time decision. hansson opened eyes with eight receiving touchdowns and averaging close to 130 yards per game. he's in the top 10 nationwide in most receiving stats. it seems if not able to play, that cal would be in big trouble but davis webb says he's on pace to throw 4,000 yards and says that hansson isn't in the line up. they still have plenty of guys capable of making big plays. >> you have to trust the process and trust the system. and let them make plays in space. >> we're getting a lot of the kids opportunities where kids with look at what we're doing offensively and see people are touching the ball. there are young kids, too.
