we are at 54 in san francisco. oakland has dropped to 53. 51 in san jose. and 50 the current number in livermore. a beautiful shot from sutro tower. showing you quiet conditions. the big story today, clouds will be increasing throughout the day and by the afternoon temperatures in the 60s and 70s. we are tracking a little bit of rain. we will show you when in the accuweather forecast coming up. >> thank you, drew. breaking news out of the east bay this morning. oakland place are investigating an incident where shots were fired at officers. it happened just before midnight at 77 and bancroft avenues. all of the officers are okay. we have calls into the police department for more information on exactly what happened. new questions are being raised after that massive cyberattack on friday. the department of homeland security and the fbi are investigating. the hackers used devices you could have in your home to shut down the internet.

attack crippled several major websites. security experts are warning this could be just the beginning. abc7 news reporter tiffany wilson explains. >> household appliances used to launch an attack. a cyber-security expert said the internet of things is likely to be played again. >> we are seeing more and more texts exploiting these type of devices against targets. >> starting friday morning hackers transformed everything from baby monitors to vacuum cleaners into an army overwhelming servers with phony requests. it's called a distributed denial of service attack and meant people couldn't watch netflix or use twitter. the group new world hackers claimed responsibility. >> i would say it's too early to see who is behind it.

>> the affected companies lost money in customers. he said we should really be concerned about the risk to us individually. for example, he worries a hacker could blackmail you by threatening to turn the brakes off in your car or peering into your baby's monitor. >> every single one of those devices can become a little canon. >> he estimates he has ten of those little canons in his own home. >> that's pretty scary, for sure. i mean, i have cameras all around my house. >> there's no easy way to know if your devices were used in the web attack, but he said there is a simple solution to make your devices safer. >> every new device installed in the home, make sure the default password it came with in the box gets changed so no one can hack into the device. >> a bit of homework to protect your home. in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> the family of a young navy see man is demanding answers after she suddenly died while at sea near japan. 23-year-old danyelle luckey recently enlisted as a way to

travel the world, get an education and serve her country. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> we were just inseparable. >> she was my baby. i don't understand. it hurts. it hurts so bad. i just don't know what i am going to do without her. >> annette and darryl luckey are heartbroken. their daughter danyelle enlisted this the navy just five months ago. she passed boot camp with no problems and was on her first deployment aboard the uss ronald reagan when she suddenly died. the family was told she'd been sick for a few days and may have died of cardiac arrest. >> when my baby left here, she was standing tall and she was healthy. she comes back in a casket. >> the 23-year-old bay area woman's body was returned to the bay area thursday. one officer saluted luckey, who is considered a veteran. her family stood in silence, devastated. >> this really hurts and it's really sad to know we will never see her again.

it really hurts a lot. >> autopsy results won't be in for another two months. the pittsburgh native planned to one day return home and become a social worker to help troubled teenage girls. >> danyelle luckey's funeral will take place here wednesday morning. she will be buried with full military honors. in pittsburgh, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. members of the u.c. berkeley greek community met to discuss what changes needed to be made after recent allegations of sexual assault. two women were reportedly assaulted at fraternity parties off-campus last weekend. in response, the greek system has chosen to suspend parties at both fraternities and sororities. the group met yesterday to discuss their plans and to self secure their events going

forward. on october 4th a person slammed into the back of a horse trailer and left the scene. the horse, named chance, was initially not expected to survive. chance has recovered, but can never be ridden again. an enormous tree crushed a man in his own backyard in san rafael. he was gardening when it happened. abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley has more. >> reporter: this 75-foot tall eucalyptus tree cracked at the base of its trunk and toppled not onto the house, but onto a man out in his backyard watering and digging. the 911 call came in 3:30 in the afternoon. >> the owner of the property was found underneath the tree. >> pinned under the tree. >> pinned under the tree, unconscious. we were able to remove him from under the tree.

we attempted some rescusitative efforts on scene but were not successful. >> shocked neighbors and friends came through the gated driveway in this steep neighborhood. groves of eucalyptus trees are everywhere and in every yard. >> the eucalyptuses are among the biggest and we always look up at them and wonder but it's kind of terrifying that one could fall over and kill someone like that. >> tom bair pointed out the leaning trees in his yard and one that came crashing down on his driveway during a winter rainstorm, narrowly missing the cars. coroners said the fallen tree had started leaning toward their house the last few months. in san rafael, i'm leslie brinkley, abc7 news. a high school football flavorer went to the hospital after getting a concussion during the game.

it happened in san francisco at lincoln high school where the game was played yesterday. the injured player was from the opposing team, galileo high school. trainers escorted him off the field and ambulance took him to the hospital as a precaution. student said seeing the injury shook them up. >> it's just a scary thing. even though it wasn't one of my players, it's sad to see another player down because they don't come out here wanting to get injured. >> witnesses say the teenager was walking, talking and moving after the injury. the players finished out the game. lincoln went on to win 21-18. the trip from the east bay to treasure island is a little safer and easier. the new on and off ramps opened up to drivers on the bay bridge yesterday. the biggest difference is that the exit is now on the right side of the bridge instead of the far left. the tight turns and quick merges are gone, as well.

the project cost $98 million to complete. caltrans is scheduled to open the last part of the bay bridge to bike traffic today. the bike path will open at noon. the four and a half mile path on the eastern span will finally go all the way to yerba buena island. drivers will need to take a shuttle because the roads on the yerba buena island are not considered safe for cyclists and pedestrian. and how will the weather be? >> i will show you the forecast coming up. >> and also ahead, an east bay teenager is offering up more chills than thrills this halloween in his effort to help those in need. and the cubs fans are going wild in the streets of chicago as the cubbies clinch the national league pennant.

>> omg, a historic night in chicago. the cubs advancing to their first world series since 1945. this was the jubilant crowd at wrigley field after the cubs beat the dodgers in game six of the national league championship series. the world series starts tuesday night in cleveland. shu will have all the highlights from the game coming up in sports. here's a bit of per expectative about how long it's been since the team has been in the world series. hard to believe, but color television did not yet exist and neither did credit cards, international air travel, the nba or even the states of alaska and hawaii. the cubs have also never played in a world series that was televised. look at hillary clinton's face. this is her reaction to the cubs be' win. her traveling press secretary tweeted this photo of her watching the last outs of the

game from her campaign plane. she's a huge cubs fan. clinton born in chicago back in 1948, three years after the last time the cubs played in the world series. telecon giant at&t announced it will buy time warner for $85 billion. it will bring together the company's wireless and pay television subscribers with time warner's media lineup, including networks like cnn, tnn, hbo and hollywood's biggest film studio, warner brothers. the proposed deal is likely to spur more consolidation among media companies. los angeles police are testing out an electric car that should have no problem keeping up in police pursuits. tesla is loaning a model s to the lapd for an entire year. the department will run it through a series of tests to determine how to make it an actual patrol vehicle some day. this one features police radios,

a computer, a custody cage and a shotgun rack. not having to fill up on gas can save the department a lot of money. city leaders are confident that tesla is up to the job. >> we found the car that is very spacious inside. it has lots of technology and has the performance that can match any patrol car today. >> the department already has a fleet of 100 bmw i-3 plug-in cars that are being used in nonemergency situations. happening today, crewmembers who died in world war ii and the submarines they served on will be honored in a special ceremony. 20 of the submarines built here went down in the war, along with 575 crew men. today there will be a flag raising and wreath laying

ceremony. the preevent starts at 1:30 this afternoon at mare island in vallejo. >> an east bay teenager with a passion for helping others has scared up a haunted house for a good cause. we were in albany last night for the behind-the-scenes tour of the broken spine mine. the 16-year-old created an elaborate haunted house with electronics and moving floors. it's the fourth year he and his friends have built a haunted house in his backyard. this year's theme, an abandoned mine in the middle of the bay area that no one knows about. >> to be scared and startled and amazed by special effects and all sorts of actors. >> the haunted house is at 1048 peralta avenue. open to the public for two nights only, next saturday and on halloween. you can get in for a donation of five dollars. hlf the money raised goes to the almeda county community food

bank. in the south bay more than 5,000 people came out to help find a cure for cancer. the light the night walk was held at a stadium in san jose last night. these walkers raised $1.5 million for the leukemia and lymphoma society. each one carrying different colored lanterns. >> gold is for all the people who have passed away and it's in memory of them. the red is for all the participants. and then the white is for the survivors. >> abc7 news is proud to partner with the leukemia-lymphoma society sponsoring the light the night walk. two more walks are scheduled next month. one in walnut creek, one in san francisco. go to abc7news.com/community for the details. >> now of the accuweather

forecast. >> time now is 6:16:00 a.m. scanning the skies and coming up empty-handed in terms of rain. seeing some high clouds stream in from the southwest to the northeast. we slow you the beautiful airport. no delays so far. good to go if you have a flight out early this morning. we were cool yesterday. certainly felt like fall. the numbers will continue to drop a couple degrees from the afternoon highs yesterday. a cooler finish to the weekend and that's ahead of a little bit of rain we are tracking. the best chance looks to be in the north bay. but the story this morning, certainly it's a cooler morning by 2 to 7 degrees in most spots compared to this time yesterday. so a couple of spots right now have dropped into the 40s. currently 43 in novato. santa rosa, also at 43. 350 san mateo, 50 fremont and san jose checking in with the current number of 51 degrees. here's the day planner on your sunday. the sun is up right around

still north of santa rosa. as we head into monday, 11:00 in the evening, the system tries to sag south. as it does, it is just kind of falling apart. we lose the yellows and the intense rainfall. so i think the system once again will have a really hard time making its presence no one outside of the north bay. you can see as we head into tuesday, it continues to fall apart and evaporate. right now it looks like the best chance of measurable sprinkles is in the north bay. we will keep watching it. the seven-day forecast. today partly cloudy skies. nice, 60s and 70s. monday there is the rain moving into the north bay late. by tuesday we are calling it north bay showers. it dries out midday into the afternoon. it's a mainly cloudy sky. by wednesday it's sunshine and clouds mixture. thursday we will see the clouds come right back into the region, and by friday we are tracking our next storm system. right now, carolyn, friday looks

students for the selection and they spent four months making the mural. >> i saw it an opportunity to give the kids we normally wouldn't have the budget to do. >> and it wasn't just a dedication, attend december also had a shot at a raffle to raise more money for art education. >> the city of hayward hit the rewind button, taking it one back to the '80s. yesterday abc7 news was at city hall as a group of elite cubers showed off their puzzle-solving skills. hundreds were there, although most were not going for the championship. organizers say just a handful of people are fast enough to be competitive and able to solve the rubik's cube in 9 to 10 seconds. >> most most are not competing to win. it's a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. they are going for p. b.,

inspirational to many. this exhibit captures both sides of the party born in oakland in 1966. there are photos of black men in leather jackets and black berets often armed and pushing back to police. the fbi called them the greatest threat to american security. but the community saw something else. the handwritten draft of the panthers' founding platform, the the ten-point program, included demands for decent housing, full employment and self determination. >> it's this remarkable document that shows how the language was being shaped, out ideas were being developed in a very thoughtful, organized way. >> this is one of my images. >> 68-year-old gail dixon is an former black panther. women like her made up two-thirds of the membership nationwide.

>> believe it or not, i saw it as what they called a revolution, a total change. systemic change. >> she was involved in the party's survival programs, the free breakfast for children, the medical clinics, the schools. >> for me it's always been about taking care of the community one way or the other. >> the museum collaborated with several former panthers on this exhibit, which took three years to complete. >> the exhibit features interactive touches. for example, you can sit in a replica of that iconic chair huey newton made famous. the black panthers long ago disbanded, but their impact and influence continue. >> and a closing event for the commemoration will be held at the museum at 1:00 this afternoon. it includes a naming ceremony of -- for a grove honoring bobby hutton, a panther who was killed by oakland police. there will also be a giveaway of 500 bags of free groceries.

kickoff at levi's stadium 1:05 p.m. the cubs, the favorites to win the world series against cleveland, and last night the cubbies beat the dodgers to get to the fall classic. here's shu with the highlights in this morning's sports. >> good morning. well, for the first time since 1945 the chicago cubs are going to the world series. the dodgers tried to prevent history by sending ace clayton kershaw to the mound. the cubs lose a player in the dugout pregame. 3-0 cubs in the bottom of the fourth. crushes it into the left field stands, 4-0 cubs and kershaw's expression says it all. bottom of five. anthony rizzo, solo shot to right and 5-0 lead. cubs fans still don't trust it. kershaw didn't think it would leave, he's stunned. yes, it is happening for the cubs. they are excited at wrigley. top of the 9th.

sunnyvale warming to 71 today. palo alto about 63. and 63 half moon bay. downtown san francisco 63. 60 for daly city. the sunset cricket into the north bay we go. high clouds. 68 petaluma, 69 sonoma. 68 for vallejo. 68 oakland, 71 union city. 72 fremont, 71 castro valley. and a lot of 70s. 73 san ramon, 74 antioch and 74 the high? liver more. future weather monday morning, we are tracking the next storm, kind of getting it back together around eureka. the showers still well north of the bay area. monday afternoon, 4:00, the time stamp up there, just beginning to get some light showers working their way into santa rosa. but you notice this system as it sinks to the south, it just lose as lot of its punch and likely south of the golden gate we may not see any measurable precipitation. the future tracker rainfall showing the trend is our friend, so to speak.

in the north bay this is where we likely see the soaking showers. when future track or rainfall shows you be rainfall less than a quarter of an inch, a lot of times with these dryer storms, a lot of that doesn't reach the surface. you can track the updated forecast with the abc7 news app. here's the accuweather forecat 7 day. partly cloudy today, dry for the weekend. on monday we track the showers first late in the north bay. that's our best chance. and likely on tuesday morning the showers will really stay in the north bay as this front falls apart. wednesday we are dry. a mix of sun and clouds. thursday we will have the clouds come back and thicken. by friday we will have scattered showers. that's our best chance of seeing wide-spread rain in the next seven days. and still it stays unsettle the. temperature-wise staying very fall-like the next seven days. >> and both of us like that weather. >> love the fall weather. >> thanks, drew. >> sure. >> san leandro's newest neighbor is a whom who is 55 feet tall and made of steel. she's the centerpiece of an

$164 million. happening today, a navy veteran and paralympic swimming champ who lost his sight will swim from alcatraz to crissy field. brad snyder was blinded while serving in afghanistan in 2011. he's won four gold medals in the london and rio paralympic games. today he will jump into the open waters, swimming two miles from the alcatraz to the san francisco bay. it's all to raise awareness for the annual swim for sight is event. it's a foundation focusing on eyesight. the swim is scheduled to start at 7:15 this morning. that's in just a few minutes. we are wishing him all the best. a final check of the accuweather forecast. >> it will be beautiful out there. the sun gets up in about a half-hour. we show you the beautiful sunrise underway. some clouds in the afternoon. about 63 san francisco, 68 oakland, 72 in san jose. and about 70 the high in napa,
