it all did take down a wire. now at first police thought that this might be a live power line, so they did close the road to traffic. we are along college avenue and alcatraz. they did find out this is an at&t line for television and phone, so lanes along college avenue are back open but officers are out here directing traffic and it is moving very slow. the good news is nobody was hurt. some branches did fall over on a parked car and did damage that vehicle. the department of forestry is on the way and they will determine what caused this tree to fall and the best way to clear it from the area. now, it was windy earlier today, and a spokesman for the city of berkeley did tell me that it appears wind was the cause, but, again, the department of forestry is going to come out here hand make their own determination. you can also see if you come back to us, the inside of the tree appears to be hole owed out. perhaps it was rotting or maybe it was sick. we are going to get some of those answers a little bit later on today, but if you are in this

area just be prepared. traffic is moving slow. there are officers directing vehicles the right way to go. of course, there are a lot of people taking pictures and looking around. this is a very large tree. the people who live in this apartment build diagnosis not have to be evacuated by officers are trying to keep people away from the area for their safety. reporting live in berkeley, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. big tree to be hole old out like that. >> thank you. the rain is causing even more problems across the bay area tonight. >> the san francisco bay ferry has cancelled all ferry trips between south san francisco and the east bay because of stormy conditions on the bay. >> the ferry trips will be replaced by buses during this evening's community. >> here's a live look from the emoriville camera where it's been kind of gloomy all day in the east bay. meteorologist sandhya patel is monitoring the conditions right now. definitely different out there. >> yeah, much-needed rain coming in dan and kristen. let's check into live 7 doppler hd and the concentration of the rain is in the north bay where i'll zoom in right now.

yellows and reds indicating heavier rainfall. as we take you into windsor, street level radar, old redwood highway you'll notice where it's coming down pretty good. santa rosa has picked up .4 of an inch. and in the east bay it's lighter around pleasant hill and walnut creek and walnut boulevard. you'll notice scattered showers. winds are gusty so trees could go down like we just saw in that picture with elissa harrington. gusts to 28 right now in san jose. we bring in our storm impact scale this. system is a one. it's a light system. steadiest rain in the north bay between tonight and tomorrow it shifts into the south bay as well. we're looking at scattered showers elsewhere with gusty winds tonight. here's your takeaway. mainly had a north bay storm. little to nothing expected in the south bay, but you will see scattered showers for your morning commute tomorrow and that storm exits tomorrow evening. two more systems, count, that two more systems are coming before the week is up. details are coming up.

kristen? >> we'll keep tracking them. sandhya, thank you. anger and frustration in the north bay here santa rosa. more than 1,000 students apt a spanish immersion school in windsor were exposed to racist graffiti this morning after vandals spray painted the hate messages all over the school. >> reporter: this is the drop-off zone. this is where parents and students pulled up this morning and found scrawled on a lot of the walls messages like trump 2016 and build the wall higher. it's painted over here right now, but as you can imagine those messages sent a wave of shock through this campus. >> reporter: >> reporter: build the wall higher was scrawled across the wall and the messages greeted kindergarteners as they arrived this morning. the messages were spray painted in black, gold and silliter on

trash cans and doors across the campus. 75% students here at the academy are latino. >> the mom said i saw it and was upset and walked into the bathroom and just started to cry, and it's -- it's something that -- that strikes deep at an emotion. when you do something or say something that threatens a child's feeling of safety, that is not okay. >> i think it's disgusting that people would do that. >> reporter: parents swooped in to pick up their children in the rain, anxious to counter the graffiti. teachers engaged kids in class. >> the text wasn't surprising to them. the violation of wright on our school felt pretty awful. >> reporter: janitors painted over all of the messages by late morning. police are investigating this as a hate crime and poring over surveillance video from the campus. students were told to scout social media postings in the hope that whoever did this is caught.

in windsor, i'm les lie brinkley, abc 7 news. and we have breaking news now in san francisco. sky 7 is live over the glen park area where police are down there investigating a possible homicide. police tell us officers responded to this home on addison street around 1:30 p.m. and found a man in his 40s dead from a gunshot wound. we're going to continue monitoring the situation, and we'll bring you updates on the abc 7 news app. police have arrested a teenager in the strong-armed robbery of a man near san francisco's cliff house. 19-year-old jacobo padilla is one of five people suspected of targeting the victim. it happened on october 5th. this is surveillance video of that attack. police say the victim was taking pictures when two men grabbed his camera on the top of the screen there. you can see the victim being dragged by the getaway car. >> the subject jumped in the car while the victim was still holding on to the camera and

actually dragged him in the middle of the street causing abrasions to his arms. he got dragged for about ten feet. >> one of the robbers was left behind by the getaway car. he ran down the highway trying to catch up and there you see him trying to catch his comrades. an east palo alto landlord and son have been arrested accused of harassing rent-controlled tennants. police say car windows were smashed out and damaged property north to scare tennants in order to move ow. the landlord's son is expected of calling a witness and telling that person not to cooperate with the investigation. richmond firefighters snuffed out a small roadside fire near the city's shore line this afternoon. sky 7 spotted the smoke and flames near bay view area close to the point isabelle regional shore line. the small fire burned grass and dry brush. firefighters quickly put it out. sky 7 was also over this fire that damaged a north oakland home this afternoon. it happened on market street

near 55th. fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze before it threatened neighborsing homes. the cause sunday investigation. and a ferry crew rescued a man in san francisco bay this afternoon. abc 7 news was at the fairy building as rescuers treat that had man. witnesses say the man you see there jumped into the water and then couldn't get back on land. the crew of a golden gate ferry threw him life preservers and pulled him on board. all right. it may seem like a long shomt but there is guarded optimism in oakland that a deal can be done to keep raiders from moving to las vegas. some of it centers on the efforts of ronnie lott who is working on a deal to build a new stadium on the coliseum site. anchor mike schumann is here with a story you'll see only on 7. a lot of wheeling and dealing. >> hall of famer ronnie lott who played for both the 49ers and raiders is putting together a group of investors to try to keep the raiders in oakland. a lot of moving parts in this

investment group and dealing with the city of oakland. las vegas has a head start but ronny thinks his group can make a big push. >> ronnie lott began his quest to help find a stadium solution in oakland about a year ago when former raider quarterback and fellow usc alum approached him. lott said yes and the two arranged a meeting with owner mark davis. >> if you can get the city and county together and if you can bring the land or a deal to me where you have that, that's really the -- the opportunity. >> since then it's been lott's mission to assemble a team and get city and county leaders on board all working together. he says the response has been overwhelming. >> it's not just one person. it's a number of people who have said that they want to contribute not just who they are, they want to contribute dollars and cents to this effort. >> oakland needs to get to work on its effort. last week nevada's governor signed legislation approving a

record $750 million in public funds for a new stadium in las vegas for the raiders. davis announced he's all in. >> it's unfair for people to keep bringing up what if oakland does this and what if oakland does that. las vegas has already done what they are snowed to do. >> reporter: lott and east bay leaders aren't giving up. a report in today's "chronicle" says lott's group have submitted officials. ronny wouldn't talk specifics but with the support he's getting from local business leaders and nfl commissioner roger goodell he's hopeful a deal can get done. >> all can you do is make your best effort, your best effort every day, and because you're able to make your best effort, that gives you a shot. ronny doesn't have a developer right now, but he says a number have expressed interest, including the debartolo group. he's not interested in owning a piece of the raiders. he's interested in being a good citizen as he saw how devastating it was to the city of san francisco when the 49ers

fierce in burlingame. abc 7 news reporter vic lee explains why. >> i have no idea where i'm going to go. >> reporter: the measure r is a grass roots campaign and organizers gathered more than the required signatures to put it on the ballot. >> over 3,500 signatures which interestingly enough is more signatures than many of our city council members received votes. >> are you familiar with the bill. >> reporter: there's been a lot of money spent on the campaign for tiny but wealthy burlingame. more than $100,000. most of it from opponents, namely realtors, business and property owners. >> you think that it's really unfair to saddle small mom and pop property owners which is the majority of rental property owners here in burlingame and san mateo county. >> reporter: measure r would establish rent stabilization

'70s and his current term. today the governor said tom had a real sense of the underdog and was willing to do battle no matter what the odds. state democratic chair don burton calls him an icon and a student of long shots and hard cases. he died after a long illness at the age of 76. >> now to consumer news, an important tip if you're in the 7 on your side's michael finney is here with what you need to know. >> a lot. >> it's all about reliability. when you pay tens of thousand of dollars for a new car you expect it to work. it's important to work when vehicles were more likely to wind up in the shot and those who don't. sfo is reporting arrival delas vegas 30 minutes in case you're picking somebody up. bring in the storm impact scale. this is a light system. a 1 between tonight and tomorrow. steadiest rain in the north bay tonight and late tonight going into tomorrow we're expecting this to spread. scattered showers elsewhere with gusty winds tonight. already had reports on twitter of wet conditions from theest bay in places like hay wad and the peninsula and mt. tam cam showing you a shaky camera and light raindrops. low 306s in oakland. dark clouds from our emoriville camera. 58 in santa rosa. pretty cool all day long. and if you're in the south bay and san joss. you're going what rain? you've had some gusty winds. i've had reports of that. gusty wind and rain and showers and scattered showers for tuesday morning with a stronger storm arriving on thursday and another one following this weekend. tomorrow morning temperatures will begin in the mid-50s to the low 60s.

don't leave home without the umbrella. we'll have scattered showers around. hour-by-hour forecast showing you what to expect so as we go into 7:00 p.m., light to moderate rain, north bay, east bay and going into 11:00 p.m. a line of steady rain cutting right across the central bay. 4:00 a.m. community time. you'll be seeing scat everyday showers and damp roadways around 7:00 to 8:00 when you're taking the kids off to school. could mean some long delays for the commute time. noontime, most of those showers between noon and 5:00 p.m. going way up into the north bay so the system will actually lift to the north and the rest of you will get a break. in terms of rain totals. anywhere from a couple hundreds inthe south bay to .6 of additional rain in the north bay with the current system. highs for the tuesday will look like this. mainly in the low 60s to low 70s. hang on to the umbrella. it doesn't hurt. now we're tracking the second system. thursday morning, you'll notice the rain is still off the coastline at 5:00 a.m. we go into 8:00 a.m., and the rain begins to move in. we'll also see some wind.

it spreads by noontime, and it gets heavier as we go into the afternoon and evening, but most of the heavy activity holds off until about 9:00 p.m. and moving onshore around the san mateo coastline and sarnta cruz mountains, burn areas down there. could have real issues. the loma fire, so keep that in mind. can you always track the storms, accuweather seven-day showing you the system coming in. current one, 1 on our storm impact scale and scattered showers for tomorrow morning and dry wednesday. we have a 2 coming up, wet and windy for thursday and continuing into friday with some showers for your friday and saturday night into sunday. we have another 1 with more rain and wind. that may need to be changed to a 2 as we get closer. halloween monday, get a chance to dry out just in time for all those trick-or-treaters, and i know, dan, kristen, guys don't want your cuss tombs getting wealth. >> the ours or our kids. >> yours. >> your kids are going to be competing with me for candy. >> watch out. >> thank you very much.

the american academy of pediatrics has released its latest sleep recommendations for babies. 3,500 infants die in the u.s. each year from sudden infant death syndrome and other sleep-related complications. the academy advises putting babies on their backs, in a crib with nothing inside but a tight-flitting mattress and sheet. blankets, pill oh, stuffed animals and crib padding can all suffocate babies. and a new study shows cause for concern over the cumulative impact over hits on the brains of young football players. the study published in the journal "neurology" attracted 25 football players between 8 and 13 years of age over one season. it found that the players experienced structural changes to white matter in the brain which connects various neurons despite having no concussion diagnosis. researchers say it's not clear if the impact to the brain is permanent. he asked and folks answered. coming up warriors star kevin durant hits the bay area hot
