>> live where you live this is abc7 news. say now at 11:00 live doppler 7 is tracking the first of two storms set to hit the bay area this week as crews work late into the night to clean up a huge tree that fell on to an east bay apartment building. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. city officials in berkeley say strong winds brought that tree down today. >> there is rain and check out the time lapse video. abc7 news was on the san francisco sky way tonight during the height of the rush hour. the drivers had to turn on the wiper blades making the slow drive home a little more difficult tonight. >> we have live team coverage and sandhya patel is tracking the rainy morning commute. let's begin with lilian kim live in berkeley with a rush to clean up the big tree that came crashing down. >> reporter: dan and ama the tree is quite large. crews were unable to finish

the clean up work tonight. how, as the tree fell it pulled up a chunk of the sidewalk creating a big mess on busy college avenue. workers with the professional tree care company dropped everything when they got a call from the city of berkeley about a fallen tree on college avenue. the 80-foot elm is three feet in diameter and much of it landed on top of an apartment building. no one was hurt and there was minimal structural damage. removing the tree piece by piece has been a challenge. >> the guys are using power tools in what would be normally daylight and now it is dark outside. in a perfect situation we would have big light towers and leet up the whole -- and light up the whole scene. >> the elm was found hollow and likely diseased and the rain and the wind were enough for the tree to topple. it also shutdown ferry service between south san francisco and alameda. high wind warnings greeted motorists on the san mateo bridge. as is the case, the rain began

are facing for the morning commute. damp roadways there. the road spread steadiest of the shower activity is in the north bay between heelsburg and pen grove. i will take you to street level. we are seeing the wet roadways and that's what you will encounter. wiper weather for tomorrow morning's commute. much of the central and south bay is getting a break and as you look at the storm impact scale this is a one. it is a light system. scattered showers for tomorrow and slick roadways and it will be breezy in spots although the wind has eased up. the commute planner shows us what to expect. the ferry ride is choppy and if you are walking fair conditions are expected. make sure you have your rain gear with you. we have two more storms coming behind this system that wraps up tomorrow. i'll be back with a look at the second one which could get interesting. when it will all play out. >> thank you sandhya. and abc7 mornings will have

>> reporter: 7-month-old henry massey's mother snatched him from his crib early sunday morning while his grandmother slept. >> she came in through a window and got him and left through the door. i didn't even know it. >> we tried to get an amber alert out however it is quite a process working with the state. >> reporter: by late this afternoon an amber alert for henry and 35-year-old hannah ashley. she is believed to have left the home driving a silver 2005 subaru forester license plate number 5jkz255. >> there are issues in her background that causes concern for shield protective services about the child's welfare. >> reporter: her -- his grandmother has custody. her rights are restricted. >> she threatened a couple weeks ago that she would take him. >> reporter: she is unsure where hannah may be traveling but they l following leads.

>> under those conditions he doesn't eat well and i worry about that. >> a lot of phone calls and tips from the public. our detectives are working feverishly to locate the mother. >> reporter: if you see the two call 9-1-1. in sonoma county, abc7 news. >> ama: an award-winning san francisco film maker has been arrested on suspicion of of murderin a man in the glen park neighborhood. he was booked into county jail charged with homicide and being a felon in possession of a gun. sky 7 was over the addison street house where the 40-year-old male victim was found. he rose to fame for directing "straight out of hunter's point." >> ama: the san francisco police department named the two officers who opened fire on an armed suspect who shot a fellow officer more than a week ago. the suspect later died after he was injured by police.

authorities say he shot sfpd officer kevin downs. the officer survived a wound to his head, but is now partially paralyzed. they say nathan chu and paul dominguez were involved in the shooting that lead to the capture. >> dan: a twist on the bay area's soaring real estate market. a peninsula landlord and his son are now accused of going to extreme measures to force out tenants with rent control. in one insurance department they are uh -- incident they are accused of breaking car windows. now the story from east palo alto. >> by coincidence the crime happening correlated to the apartments under rent control. >> reporter: john small is one of the tenants who believed they were victims of their own landlord. he had his car keyed and others a bb gun. >> we thought it was an angry neighbor or a neighborhood kid. now it sheds a new light about

what it might have been. >> the owner of stanford garden damaged tenants' cars to get them to move out so he can charge new tenants higher rent. jay we think it is truly taking advantage of our people who need the rent control. that's why we filed felony charges. >> the owner's son is facing a misdemenor charge for trying to dissuade a witness from cooperating with the criminal investigation against his dad. i spoke with his attorney and they said they have no comment. tenants have plenty to say. >> i am glad justice is being served for people who are paying their rent and want to live peacefully. >> reporter: the father is scheduled to make his first court appearance. the son's trial date is set for march 20th. abc7 news. >> ama: coming up on abc7 news at 11:00 -- >> such a nasty woman.
